Not if you ask the guys of Rage Against the Machine or The Beastie boys. RATM was founded when Zach and Tom saw the UDS live. And touring with the UDS as their opening act inspired the Beastie Boys to pick up their instruments and record " Check yo head" and thanked the UDS in the liner notes. The UDS returned the compliment in their song "Demagogue" where Rude boy raps "I got the means to check yo head, like the Beastie Boys."
I always felt that Rage Against the Machine was a rip-off band when they came out, I was living in Seattle (grew up there) and had this album before Rage Against the Machine came out and felt they were a Urban Dance Squad rip-off, what you say confirms what I felt now for nearly 30 years (I am still into cutting edge music, too). Saw Fishbone in Paris in 1992 (saw somebody else's comment about them below).

Yes. Very true. Too bad this scene/style of music was hijacked by “nu metal” bands later on and destroyed the potential of this genre. UDS are definitely pioneers and did it the best from the get go. 😎
I remember seeing them on this tour in Chicago!! Incredible energy and talent on display!! Rudeboy was literally doing backflips off the walls; so much fun!! This band was just SO BADASS in every way!!
Wicked Song....Im born in 76...one of my favs back then...the early 90s were great. So much new musical styles. Their sound truly inspired many, more sucessfully bands
Beste nederlandse band ooit! Ik heb ze gelukkig 1 keer gezien in Enschede. De jaren negentig waren geweldig. UDS, Ratm, Beastie Boys, soundgarden, NAS,
Great tune. Sorry I never saw them live. Buddy of mine saw them open for Living Colour and he said they kicked ass. DJ DNA did you really up load this? If so thanks. What have you been up you been up to?
Late, but anyway thanks a lot for those live videos, DNA! For your info: I've uploaded a tape "History of Mental Floss", see here ua-cam.com/video/WOdIsLFTuJc/v-deo.html. If any problem with it just leave a note and I'll do something about it.
Ladieees & Gentlllleeeemeennn, may I present to You all, a real rap band...not that rap-metal crap, that's being immulated by guys like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, or any of their carbon copies, that immitate their slacker style. Now a rap band is a band that plays their instruments(guitar, bass, drums,& a DJ), don't use other people's music, and loops from other tracks, & UDS, as well as the first innovators, RUN DMC.I want to see more stuff from somebody, who can do, what UDS has done. W8ng 2 C.
One of the most underappreciated bands of all time.
Went to concert in my hometown of Haarlem. Was awesome.
So true. Bought their CD when i was young.
Broke my back skating with this song...1990...😅😅😅
They arrived too early.. The world was not ready for them... Nothing to do

Urban Dance Squad actually toured in support of the Chili Peppers in 1987. So did Primus and Faith No More.
For me whas the First crossover band with so much Hendrix touch that i can't stand it, us good it is. LOVE IT
Great song, great band. .. hip hop boneheads today (as of 2013) take note. . .

Don’t forget Public Enemy in all this , add a dash of James Brown and tempo of Immigrant Song and mix don’t stir
are you the first DJ ever in a band?
reminds of native st Louis band urge
100% b boys were watching this
What is that sample in the opening? I have heard it in some motown style song sung by a lady!
I got it from JVC - force, but they sampled it too, probably from the track you mentioned, if you find out lemmeno
freda payne unhooked generation
Sounds like a mix of Faith No More and Rage
Rage totally ripped off this band!
=D
ils méritaient beaucoup plus de reconnaissance
I think that is weird the band does not move. I still love this song, though.

You mike Tyson!
There's only 3 good rock and hip hop crossover fusion groups imo. These guys, Beastie Boys and Rage Against The Machine
And so many more bands the public never noticed.
WAIT!
DJ DNA?
Is this YOU that posted this?

WauW zeg!! Tijd gelee DJ DNA :-)
