I use a livescribe, pencast functionality, and an application called Scrivener to take meeting minutes. I take notes with my iPhone recording audio. Later, I create a Scrivener file to transcribe the notes. Scrivener allows me to open a workspace for every topic in the meeting. Then I can put items into the appropriate workspace. Even if someone goes back to a prior topic, it's no problem to put that discussion into the workspace containing the topic that was previously covered. When I get through the whole pencast, I can output the Scrivener bits as one file, and I can copy that and paste it into Word. Even when people talk over each other and skip around the topics, my minutes make our meetings appear tightly structured.
Interesting technique! I use Scrivener for novel writing. Are you using Scrivener to transcribe the Pencast audio notes? Curious to know how that works. thx
As a college student who uses Live Scribe, I find that it is an essential tool to my education because I am able to re-listen to lectures and catch anything important that I might have missed. I'm currently using the Live Scribe Echo which has been fantastic, however since the microphone is built into the pen the audio is sometimes distorted due to the pens contact with paper. I just ordered the Aegir after watching this review and can't wait for the quality in the audio to skyrocket because my phone has a better microphone and will experience less interference when writing!

Omar, great job with presenting the Aegir pen. I received one as a Christmas gift. I just setup the pen today. Your video got me of to a smooth start working me through the useful features and techniques. Learning these features was much easier than the setup - thanks to you!
This is very cool, I used Livescribe back in the day when the pens were a lot bigger. The one thing that always got me, aside from the pen size, was having to use their paper...I understand the technology and the need for it but it always bugged me. That being said I agree with you, this would be a must buy (I’m old school and new school lol) IF they had a more classic color that would fit into my Buisness life. The flasher colors aren’t for me but great review my man and I really love how far this product has come.

I’m undecided which pen to get because like you said at the end you could have 14 pages or 140 pages of notes but what if the battery dies and you didn’t upload them to your tablet or iPod ? And PS you did a great job on the video.
I think even if it's battery dies that the pages would still be stored on its memory.
I'd love to see your review of the Aegir, Livescribe 3, Symphony, and Echo II and if it is worth it for us to upgrade to Echo II above all others or not.
Also, how it stacks up to a full fledged Neo SmartPen with all its features such as PaperTube accessories, etc. And the MoleSkine Pen+.
Any tips for using this with Onenote? What export format should I use? Will "text" automatically translate handwriting to text as opposed to swiping?

i have a lot of problems with my pen, and I tried too many times sync it with the notebook, but I loose all the i wrote because it appears incomplete in the app also i lose words that I wrote before in the notebook , please help me to find a solution for it. I know that there are many users with the same problem.
I would contact Livescribe and see about getting it exchanged. Sounds like its defective.
It appears that if you have the Livescribe app on more than one iPad and sync up the livescribe Aigir pen to multiple iPads the pen cannot handle it and will quit transferring your data. It can just be connected to one device. I need to know how to reset my pen or disconnect it from all but one iPad. Rick
I had the same issue and livescribe is exchanging it for me. I am waiting for the new one so I can test it out
I had the same issue, I switched back to Echo.
What if I'm in a huge lecture class room with over 100+ students. Would i still be able to record the lecture without having an issue of hearing the notes taken with the pen?
maybe? You can test it out by recording a lecture with your iPhone using the memo app. You'll be using the same mic to record notes with the Livescribe pen so that would be a way to test it
The echo with the ear buds works really well for a lecture setting and it records the lectures directly on the pen.
By the way, if anyone from Livescribe is reading this, I kept the pen I just bought because of this video.
is this similar to what Neo Smartpen does? Livescribe abandoned their customers five years ago with their failed Echo, are they any better now?
Hey Omar, I'm wondering if this pen can sync to your app without the phone being close or the app open? I'm wanting to use it on our fridge, to write a shopping list. We're always forgetting to take a picture of the list or bring the list with us. When we go to the shops, we'd like to be able to open up the app and see the list, without any thought of "is it synced" or having to pair the app to the pen to make sure its synced etc. Would this work?

I need clarification on what you mean by "will it transfer to notes". The recording will appear in the feed section of the notes, so they will appear there. But I think you're asking something else.

I love the pen but I hate the fact that you still need paper at the same time. I hope I can see it as an alternative to Apple Pen or S pen that can be written directly onto the screen.

Do the audio recordings take up much space on your phone? Can you delete them from your phone without connecting to a computer?
Depends on the length of the recording. I don't have an example of the file size. Yes you can delete from your phone without connecting to computer.
Omar does the Livescribe 3 Pro ink tip jiggle like you've described on this Aegir review? That seems like it would be a nuisance.
No I don't remember the 3 ink tip being loose like the Aegir

They're exactly the same except price wise and the physical size of the pen. So if you want to save some money get the Aegir. If you want some thing that looks nice and feels more solid in your hand get the 3
If I have to use the pen only to take notes and then get that automatically transferred to onenote then do I have to keep the app running in the background?
Features like the app detecting the page numbers, are those available when you're syncing up the offline data? E.g. you go back n forth thru different pages and write something in offline mode. When you sync the data to app (or onenote) does it go to appropriate pages?

No I don't think so since the phone is using the microphone for the call which takes priority over apps.

How do you turn the pen off when it is not in use?
it auto shuts off after not being used for a few minutes. Not sure exactly how many minutes though

They need to have a replaceable battery. My battery went out after a year. The option seems to be to buy a new pen. Probably not going to do that. the technology is great but the weakness is the non-replaceable battery.
How much pressure do you have to put on the pen while writing so it would recognize the text?
not a crazy amount, just firm pressure
4:21 Wow, they made the pen tip jiggle worse than their Smartpen 3's, which also made the tick,tick,tick noise as the pen tip lifted and dropped to the paper. 5:35 have you actually tested this 10 hour claim? Real world time is shorter from other reviews I have seen when using the recorder function (bluetooth). 6:59 Livescribe is no longer making the "3" pen, sadly. 7:41 Ugghhh! Another cap that will fall off and get lost. Our students have lost so many of the "3" pen rubber plugs. Disappointed cap is so loose with no snap ridge like almost all other pens out there. 12:00 Pencast is the primary use our students do with a smartpen, recording class audio. 15:17 Now if Livescribe can actually make the audio easily exportable into mp3 format instead of cat faces (lol), and then FINALLY have a desktop app (MacOS/Windows), which is far overdue since the Echo pens. We wonder who Livescribe actually uses for user feedback with new technology? It's not Disability Services at Universities... Thanks for the review!

That is the point. It’s for people who like writing on paper but want to digitally backup their notes

Help I do not understand how to use my live scribe, I have had three other pens before this one trying to keep up in my college class. Each one I have had has broken on me but this Aegir looks like it will only work on a app not a desk top. If you think you can help please email BJ at gmail.com.
