- In this video I review the Adams Fly Rods XTZ and Max Black models. I first provide a bit of overview of the rods as a whole and then take you through the characteristics of the individual models.
You can check out the Adams rods and all the others we have at www.tacticalflyfisher.com/ - Спорт
Have the 10.6 xtz for over a year and love it!
These reviews are absolutely brilliant! One of the downsides of digital commerce…never really being able to get your hands on a wide range of products. Tough when looking at spending $ on a specialised tool like a nymph rod. This fills the gap with logical, experienced and common sense advice. Thanks mate.
Glad they help
Love my XTZ, thank you for stocking them in your shop.
Great review. Food for thought for a new nymphing rod next year. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these rods, have a good one
Another very helpful review! Thanks for this info
Best reviews on earth dude! THANKS
Thank you!
Very good and detailed review! I own both the Adams XTZ 10.6 ft and the Max Black. I have bought both rods as kits and had the carbon fibre handle replaced with Cork. Everything you say about the carbon fibre handle is correct. Since I‘m used to spot takes visually, I converted to a traditional cork handle. There one caveat of the carbon fibre grip, its shape. I prefer a more slim handle.
I"ve had an XTZ 10'6" blank for a year and half or so. While not my favorite rod for smaller fish and smaller water, it is my go to rod for fishing the Green River or anywhere I'm expecting really big fish. I built mine with RECoil guides and a custom carbon fiber grip, but I used a Lamson CenterAxis reel. All in all, a nice blank, especially for big fish where that extra backbone really helps!
Thanks, love the reviews.
Wow another rod to put on my list. Thanks for your opinion it's well respected
Love the Max black and XTZ fish both as my go to. Max black will protect 6x tippet no problem.
Hi Devin
What do you think about using a solid tip on a nymphing rod ?
Will it be usefull ?
Does it increase the sensibility and the amount of takes you'd get ?
Thanks
Thanks so much for your wonderfully detailed reviews. I just received my Diamondback 10'10" 3wt but have not had the chance to fish it yet. However, I now find myself having to replace my 10' 2wt Primal Zone nymph rod. I mainly fish in southeast Australia on smaller rivers, so the 10'10" 3wt is not really for that purpose. I'm looking for the 10' 2wt to be more of an all-round rod. Besides tight line nymphing, I also like to use this rod for dry dropper (on micro leader) and occasionally a straight dry fly (on a 3wt fwd line). I've narrowed my choice to either the Diamondback 10' 2wt or the Adams XTZ 10' 2wt. I've looked at both of your videos on these rods and would appreciate your views given that you have fished both rods for a while. Thanks in advance for your time.
As I mentioned in the reviews, both rods are very good for that use case. They both have very similar flex profiles, swing weight, and recovery speed. The main difference ends up being the carbon handle on the XTZ. If you want the improved sensitivity, then it is a good choice. If saving some money is more important, then the Diamondback is also a good choice.
I really love these videos, Devin. I guess my creds as a tackle nerd are beyond reproach. You did mention the similarities between the 10' 2wt. Adams and DB, but you didn't compare the 10' 6' Adams to the 10' 10" 2 wt. DB. To make matters fair, if both of these rods had the same components (i.e., we're just comparing the blanks), could you tell me which one you'd choose, and why? @@tacticalflyfisher3817
This is a great review. Could you compare the flex profiles of the XTZ 10' 6" rod and the Diamondback 10' 10" 2 wt.? Why would you choose one rod or the other for different situations? @@tacticalflyfisher3817
Fantastic info. If you would fish the 10' with a fly line would you choose a 2# or a 3# better, as you comment that tends more to a 3 weight. Thanks in advance!
Probably a 3 weight but if you were focusing on delicate dry fly presentations than a 2 might still be best.
Have you tried the vision xo graphene ?
Hello Devin, noticed the mono line wrap on the Contact II rod. I know its to prevent micro line from sticking to the rod but my question is do you normally have it rigged that way? and how do you attach it on the rod at both ends? thanks.....
I always have the mono wrapped on all of my main nymphing rods at this point. I did this video about it a while back. ua-cam.com/video/jUZpbB5dVHY/v-deo.htmlsi=I92qKiiASu380bMi
Have you tested these rods with adams euro mono nymph line combined with their sighter marker? I use that set up in my max black and like it a lot.
Br. Markku
Yes. That setup works well.
I just ordered the 10 6 and want to get a semi automatic reel what brand and size to you recommend
Peux fulgor for sure,
If it's so expensive for U, use a Franco vivarelli
Just curious if you have ever fished the Syndicate Reaver and your thoughts?
I have flex tested them quite a few times. I have not fished them. I'm happy to discuss via email.
Bighorn semi automatic fly reel
I’ve been seeing these rods on your site for a while now, the only thing that I’m worried about is how the warranty would work, them being overseas and all
We normally stock tips and third sections in the shop for repairs. Currently repairs are $95-100. If we don’t have the specific section then Adams can send you one direct for the same price plus shipping. They don’t need you to send the rod back to Europe.
I emailed and asked the same question before I purchased... something to be said for simple section replacement..
What reel weight (oz) balances with the 106?
Anything around 4.8 oz or heavier should work.
What is the rubber band on the back of the reel for?
To keep line or leader from getting into the gap between the reel and reel seat.
Thanks, loving the channel and the videos, thanks for all the effort.
Better than t&t contact?
Probably not better but different. I like them both and fish them both a lot.
@@tacticalflyfisher3817 OK and for small fish 5/7" Adam's xtz are not so stiff?
@@tacticalflyfisher3817 and what about the Sage ESN ? I see you don't mention that rod at all in any videos
P r o m o S M 🙏
funny, Tenkara with a reel!
