  • Back in the 50's and 60's, resorts were a dime a dozen and were popular among vacationers on the east coast. For those who weren't into the big lavish resorts or wanted something more affordable came to places like this. This 1950's motel with private cottages was the perfect get away for people who just wanted a break from everyday life. Although far from luxurious and what it lacked in amenities, it made up for with peace and quiet while still being close to home. So come along with me as we explore this old property to see what still exists today, in 2019. Enjoy

I had a lot of those toys growing up lol but for how well the white house is sealed up I thought the inside would be in a little better condition. Looks like a nice place. It reminds me of a house my gram used to rent and take the family to when I was growing up so thanks for bringing back those memories! Another great video as always JP and congrats on 100k!

You two make a great team. I was amazed how trashed that place had become in such a short period. I can almost smell the mold and mustiness on the video. Once again, great work guys, risking life and limb and as always a great t-shirt by Mike.

For a motel who’s been abandoned in the mid 90s it’s sure has decayed a lot in such a short time.

I was born in the early 50's and we had an old wringer washer (no dryer) and we hung our clothes outside. Any toys you find from that era are worth money. I sure remember listening to the 8 tracks. It's such a shame that so many of the homes from my birth year and older are either decaying or no longer standing. It just breaks my heart to see this. Thank you so much for sharing!

Loved this!! I would still stay there!! Give me a tent and I would be good. Nature reclaiming! Oh and the trees beautiful! One of the trees you walked by had holes all over it...wood peckers having a feast on the insects living inside it.

I think your timing for when it closed is spot on. My son's were born in 93 and 96 and had some of those toys. Specifically the Winnie the Pooh. He was part of a set that had a boat that all the characters would fit into for storage.

The second building seems more like a residence than a hotel cabin. All of the appliances and personal items are more than just what a visitor would bring.

That's what I thought too. Maybe that was where the "innkeeper" lived? The cabins may have turned into small homes rented out to individuals in an attempt to keep the place going and that particular home was where the people lived that ran the place and did all the maintenance, etc. My mind can come up with all kinds of possibilities. HA

Those rafter boards are 2x8's. My house has them built 1940.
I am redoing mine and would love to get hold of that place. Those are perfectly preserved. Worth some money.
If I was younger, I would strip old places to sell and reuse, better than letting it rot.
People who have no money like myself, it is a blessing to find such things.
If those were in Missouri, I would have them.
All those cinder blocks laying around. I could use for my new foundation. Amazing how much gets wasted. Shame people dont recycle this stuff.
I would definitely be recycling alot of that stuff.
As far as I am concerned, it is all abandoned even if it is locked. Unlivable. No one cares anymore. Owner probably old or dead.

I grew up during the 60s in New England, there were a lot of these motel/cabins around then. This place looks like it was pretty nice with the owners house and the pool. Plexiglas and plywood looks like they tried to preserve it for awhile but the trees had other plans. Good video, cool place. Thanks, JP

That first one (red), with the Christmas tree, and the second one, with a basement, leads me to believe these were year-round residences. Before the years of decay they, particularly the first one, were better than a couple of places I've lived! Interesting explore, Jay and Mike. (Edit) When you entered the motel unit with the LPs and Polaroids, the first thing I saw was an aluminum walker to the left of the entrance. I have the feeling that this motel, like others I've seen around the country, had full-time residents in what amounted to tiny apartments. Did you see any kind of kitchen facilities in there?

@@JPVideos81 Okay, though I wonder if there could be a hotplate buried under there. I cooked for four months on a 2-plate job in a cabin until they could get a gas range installed. Did pretty good, though it took a while to get water up to a boil for any kind of pasta. Y'know, this kind of explore really takes me back to my preteen years after WWII, when my family vacationed in "Housekeeping Cabins" in Wisconsin's north woods. We brought everything but the kitchen sink from home: pots and pans, bedding, a little radio... I even slept on a screened-in porch one year and an army cot in back of the space heater another. Mom was a great cook, but everything tasted better in that fresh, piney air!

Very very interesting to see all the toys, album's and general junk left behind. Not necessarily. Bedbugs seem to come in waves, like locusts and head lice: heavy infestations, then years without them. I've heard even the posh hotels in NYC are having trouble with them now. (A burned out druggie in our apartment building brought home a mattress he found on the curb somewhere and we had an 18 month battle with bedbugs before getting rid of them. Bedbugs can only live five months without a host and they can only lay eggs after biting someone, so after thousands of dollars spent, we're finally free of them [been a year now].)

Love the location. Good grief that basement!!!!! So much stuff. Some one went to a lot of trouble putting up plexiglass...I love the rock foundation under that place. I wonder how they kept water in that pond. The stone walls wouldn't hold the water. I would live out there in a heartbeat. Maybe an elderly person stayed in that piled up room - may of been a relative of the owners. Very interesting video. Remnants of the good old days.

What a wonderful place this must have been! I would definitely have stayed there. From the way they had boarded up the main Hotel and the put plexiglass on the windows, as well as the repaired well covering and the lock box, it looks like they might be trying to restore it. That would have been a magnificent sunroom to have your meals in! I imagine the reason that they put plywood on those buildings is to discourage people from going inside and possibly injuring themselves more than anything else.

Hope you and your family are having a great weekend. Finally got to become a patron :) Had a few I wanted to be. But had to narrow it down. Your my first. I like how you film abandon houses.. Oh and I use to be Sara DeAnne Love. Had to bad divorce and had to hide for a while. But it's all good now. I'm with an amazing guy. (and yes I would have stayed there.

Hi Jay, Be careful when getting peeling paint off because it usually has lead in it which you don't want to inhale. A very cool find though and with still quite a lot of belongings left behind. That pool was awesome and I agree in that the blue colour was nice and would have looked really pretty when clean. Thank you for sharing. x

You asked us to comment on if we would have stayed there where the place was in operation.... Answer: Yes, it looks like a very peaceful place. However, I would not have wanted to be there when that tree crushed that cabin!! But the place looks so serene and peaceful. Excellent video, Jay! Be safe.

Hi guys! Such a great explore. I would have loved to stay here back in it’s heyday. I bet kids took their bikes and had a blast riding through the trees. This was open when kids actually played outside! Lol I can just smell all of the charcoal grills fired up. I love all the same things you did...the wishing well, pond, swimming pool, ect. Thanks for showing us this cool place!! Awesome video and photo montage!! Stay safe out there!!👍🏻
