I read several of Poul Anderson's books back in the 70's and 80's, but I'm pretty sure they were all SF. I was aware of his medieval-type novels, but I'm not sure if I ever read one(have to check). Don't think I ever heard of The Merman's Children(not a very appealing title, mind you...) Tau Zero is my favourite of his novels, really far out concept, mind-boggling in fact. Every time I think of Relativity and how great acceleration/mass affect Time, I always think back to this book, even though I've since read non-fiction books on science and Relativity. A great author!

Yes, I like 'Tau Zero'. I'd urge you to read the Fantasy novels - especially 'The Broken Sword' too, as the video suggests. The texture and quality of his writing goes up a notch in these- it was clearly part of his spirit, the Nordic thing.

Interesting: Broken Sword looks like the kind of book I could really enjoy. Thanks for the video.

It's pretty authentic re the Nordic vibe - and it's a proper tale rather than a contemporary novel with people who talk like they are at the mall handling swords-it's all sturmg und drang instead.

I thought I'd read a lot of Poul Anderson, but looking at a list of his publications shows that I've barely scratched the surface: he was incredibly prolific. One that particularly sticks in my memory is a short story I can't even remember the name of, but it involves a makeshift spaceship powered by the awesome force of fermenting beer! A wonderful concept, and not something you can easily forget. 😁
