- In this tutorial, I will show you how to knit a headband with a twist in English rib. It's a beautiful and warm accessory, that will keep your ears warm. It's also a fast and easy project to knit. This headband is knit back and forth, I knit in the Continental style, but you can easily knit in the English style - the pattern stays the same.
Written tutorial with pictures can be found in my blog here:

Contents:
00:27 - Cast on
02:14 - Row 1 (foundation row)
04:11 - Row 2
05:34 - Bind off
07:38 - The twist
*******************************************************************************************
MATERIALS:
Yarn - light worsted yarn. I chose Lima by Drops (1.8 oz = approx 109 yards (50 g = approx 100 m). I've used less, than 1 skein.
You can find it here: amzn.to/2My6JAR
Needles - 3.5mm (US4/UK9). I used 40cm (16″) circular needles.
You can find them here: bit.ly/2MBC3ih
Scissors - I just love the peacock scissors (small, sharp, cute and have a comfortable grip)
You can find them here: amzn.to/2J9GoHj
Tapestry needle

SIZE:
Adult fit, head circumference: 56-58cm (22"-22.5"). If you want to change the width - cast on more/fewer stitches, but a total stitch count must be a multiple of 3.

Now I would love to see a video on how to knit as I want to make this lol
A
Grrat tutorial. Very relaxing to watch. Thank you 😀
@@stephiedrown795 Thank you!
why r there dislikes?? i am so confused?? this is a great video which only deserves love!! thankyou for the tutorial!!!!
Oh, thank you so much, you're so sweet!
Well, dislikes are quite normal - everyone has their own expectations from a video, and if they are not met, the person doesn't like it.
This pattern was hard for me to do as a beginner so if there are any beginners out there wanting to achieve a similar pattern do the following:
cast on 30 stitches
P2, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1...
then pearl the pearls and knit the knits.
You'll get almost the identical pattern but its just easier to handle when you are just starting. Happy knitting!
That's true, the English rib is puffy and pretty, but it can be confusing for a beginner. The traditional 1x1 rib is a nice alternative for a beginner.
@@mirellamoments9455 I appreciate your video. Easy to understand. Hopefully i can get good enough to do the English rib one day! Merci beaucoup! Bonne journée.
I suggested just plain stitch, but your idea is very clever too... I’ll definitely give it a go.
Thank you so much for this! 👍💕
Thank you 🙏 I see what you mean 😊 will try the easier way as you specify
I didn't knit since middle school, but I made this in 2 days and it turned out super nice! Now I want to knit myself a beanie. And a scarf. But first, I need to rest my wrist, because it was not ready for this. Thanks for this easy-to-understand tutorial!
Yes , I agree. Was a beautiful experience for me, too ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite knitting video, I rewatch this one again and again
Never try this kind of twist, I will give it a try. thank you❤
I’ve made 5 of these and they turned out great! I much prefer it to be 20” long, so it feels better on my head. Also when binding off, I started by k2tog then purled the next stitch, etc., then I knit the last 2 stitches together. It made the bind off a bit thicker so it didn’t have a hole at the corners. Thank you SO much! It’s soft, flexible, warm and also makes a great neck warmer when you pull it down. I also made a few stitches on each side of the twist after seaming to keep it staying flat so it doesn’t get accidentally put on with the seam on top
Thank you very much for such detailed feedback, I'm glad you liked this pattern!

Just finished this with no problems, even as a beginner (i am more into crochet but i really wanted to try knitting as well). Thanks for the tutorial :)
That's wonderful, I'm glad you liked the tutorial!
Hello! I just thought that I would come back to let you know that I successfully completed this headband in a beautiful red yarn. I made a few small mistakes but it looks very lovely! I'll be sure to make more headbands to gift to loved ones :) thank you for sharing

I started my headband last night and finished it today. It's so easy and it looks fabulous!!!! Thanks!!!!
That's wonderful! :)
Thanks so much for the video. I was making this at 5am after being up all night with my baby. I wouldn't have been able to figure it out if it wasn't for your excellent demonstration.
Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad the video was helpful!
You made that twist so simple. I was going crazy with other ways I could not figure out, so thank you.
Thank you for your feedback! I'm really glad the instructions were clear!:)

Thank you so much for your feedback!:)

Great! Thank you for your feedback!
I hadn't learnt the English rib stitch before and I couldn't understand how it would work as a rib. Now I love it and the clean edges too. Project complete, ears warm. Thanks :)
Great, you're welcome!
Hey! I just made this and it turned out great! Such a simple project yet it brought me so much joy and I can’t wait to make more for my friends and family!!!!🥰❤️

Thank you so much for your comment, I'm glad you like it!
I love it! I just made one for my daughter and it was super easy. thank you for the tutorial!
That's wonderful, thank you so much for your feedback!😊
I’m so confused... what do you call this type of knitting? Are you just slipping the 1st stitch and working a rib 1
@@TJazzie26 This is Continental knitting - I hold the yarn in my left hand and "pick" it with the right needle. If you knit in the English style, this can look confusing.
Basically, you just repeat 2 things - you make a yarn over and you knit 2 stitches together.
Hope this helps!
This is a very difficult pattern even for an experienced knitter like me.I have attempted it numerous times to no avail ! Thankyou for sharing the easier way !
You're welcome! 🙂
Thanks a lot for the guidance! I used a different pattern for my headband, but then I stitched two ends in a twist as you are showing. 😊 I think 30 stitches make the headband too wide, around 20-25 should be enough.
You're welcome! :) Sure, the number of stitches can be customized - it really depends on how wide you want the headband to be and your knitting tension (and the chosen yarn, of course - wool, for example, often expands after the project is washed the first time).
Thank you for the pattern and this video. Very helpful in explaining the twist. I can't wait to start mine!
Thank you very much for your kind comment!
I made this headband quite of few times now, i love it!

Really clear tutorial, Mirella. I had knitted a headband and couldn't work out the twist. Now done - thanks again.
You're welcome, I'm glad you found it useful!
So that‘s how the swirl is made. I kinda feel cheated. I thought it was a crazy level of witchcraft.
That's so funny! :) But there are rumors, that with the use of spells the swirl knits itslef ...
Thank you so much. Terrific tutorial. I just followed along and made a little extra Christmas gift for my daughter!
That's so nice to hear, thank you so much for your feedback!😃
Thank you for this tutorial :DD. This is my first knitting project and it turned out lovely
This made my day! I just received this pattern in an email that directed me to your blog, then I found this video from your blog. I also subscribed because your instructions are very clear. Thank you!!!
Thank you very much, it is so nice of you! I'm very happy to hear, this video is helpful.
I love it so much!! Im going to make some for my friends and well be matching!
the only thing that worried me was that i wasnt sure how long to make it 🤔 because i like it tight. I dont know if this will help anyone who had the same concerns, but I made it 39 cm and it fits great and stays on snugly!
thank you so much for the tutorial!!
Thank you, I'm really happy you liked it! Oh yes, the length depends greatly on personal preferences and yarn, 'cause some tend to stretch some don't.
Lindo e fácil, e você está de parabéns ! Pois é muito calma e esplica bem , obrigada

Very well done, makes me feel I could make this. Thanks for the confidence boost. (Also, I always have the closed captions on because I miss things otherwise. At the end, it says "wash your husband" ... LOL ... instead of headband. Thought that was actually funny in a good way.)
Thank you for your comment, this headband is a really quick and easy project! "Wash your husband" - that's hilarious!😂
Lmao!!! Hey, washing your husband ain’t a bad idea either😉😏😁

!! 2.Překlad šílený!
Hi! This is wonderful, it really gave back my enthusiasm as it is rather easy and the result is stunning. Your video is perfect for beginners like me. However, I accidentally dropped a stitch and I could not figure out how to fix it...I had to start it again from the beginning. 😔 Do you have any video, or can you maybe link one on how to fix this exact pattern you use and have the needle correctly back in the row? I only found videos about correction with the English style knitting of this pattern. Is the fix the same with your knitting way of the pattern as well? Thanks a lot in advance. ☺️
Hi there! Oh, yes, picking up a dropped stitch in the English rib is a pain... I think the English style fix, would work, but here is a video, that shows the Continental fix:
ua-cam.com/video/DUJME_MH1Sc/v-deo.html
I hope this helps!
Add a lifeline every couple inches of your knitting. You do that by threading scrap yarn into a tapestry needle and tracing through the row of loops on your needle. That way, if you see a mistake, you can remove a few rows and no worries about dropped stitches.
