Balloon Fiesta Cameron Balloon Accident 08/08/2015

- The Cameron Balloon hit the top of the trees after mass start on the Balloon Festival in Bristol 08/08/2015.
If I was in that balloon I would like to have a video like this as an evidence to what happened and also to see what could be the cause of this happening.
Hope these people are alright!
P.S. I know the music is bit too dramatic but that is the best I could find!

It blows my mind a person would still get one of these things it's insane
You drive a car? Way more dangerous than this. That blow your mind?
Most forms of air travel are considered safer than driving a car. Going by injury and fatality statistics alone, this may also be true of hot air balloons. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), only 16 people have died while hot air ballooning between 2002 and 2016-about 1 person per year.
Most people vote, that's insane
It's not for people who think.
this only happend due to a down wind
Balloonist rule #1: If you think you're going to make it, you're not.
Any landing you can walk away from is a good one...
Second rule
I wouldn't be worried about the trees. I'd be worried about those high power lines nearby.
Power lines and balloons just don't mix
I think I'll go check my cat
Flying in a hot air balloon makes as much sense to me as tying a bunch of helium balloons to your lawn chair and taking off on it.
This was actually done by a guy Larry Walters. He reached a height of 16,000 feet. Used a pellet gun to shoot his balloons to descend to safety - appeared on David Letterman. Unfortunately, years later at age 44, Walters took his own life.
@@shrapnel77 Which, by the way, didn't make sense either.
@@PaschanTOPs you can see the connection
Hot Air Balloons are historically significant because they were the first successful "vehicle" to allow humans to fly at all, the first documented successful untethered flight being in 1783. The Wright Brothers wouldn't record a successful air plane flight until 1903, 120 years later.
@@indigothecat , in France. We grow , we learn , we stop riding balloons 😎
As a balloon fan myself, I have to say that I think that was due to false lift, and a possible downburst that caused the balloon to descend that rapidly.
Nope, fuel was running low and not enough burner pressure! You can see if you look at the burner, he ends up double burning to correct the heat input!
I read he even burnt his pilots license but to no avail
Is all wrong. The pilot has opened the valve far too long to sink again. This caused so much hot air to escape that he was unable to bring the balloon up to temperature in time for it to hover again. I am a balloon pilot by the way.
Hello my name is josh and I crew in hot air balloon to answer your question no that was not false left the pilot let the balloon bow to early did not have time to recover the balloon from hitting trees I have done it before as a passenger in my friends hot air balloon
Bungee jumping hot air balloon skydiving deep sea diving jumping out of a airplane all that type of stuff to me is crazy! I'm scared of Heights
I did not see an accident in this video, the music was far too dramatic! Not the way I would prefer to fly, but if it is a winter flight there are often low level winds while it's still calm on the surface. The balloon did appear to slow a bit when it was lower. Also: It's a Cameron Factory Balloon. It most likely has a Smart Vent that allows the pilot to dump all of the air out of the balloon very quickly on landing, makes for a safer landing on windy days. With proper planning and an experienced pilot, a safe landing in a large field is ahead. As I like to say, Tree Tops are OK... it's tree bottoms that hurt!
Theire is a man falling. Look again
@@amourgloireetbeaute7051 There's no accident report filed by CAA. So no accident ever took place.
@@amourgloireetbeaute7051 They threw out tree debris, it wasn't a person falling.
Smith didn't be silly

Sound track sucks, balloon barely hits a tree, no accident.
Trying to spice it up with some scary music
I use to use a tree as a brake when I use to fly a balloon. Worked a treat 👍
You will never get me in one of those death traps I don't need to die that way hell no!
Safest form of flying - dont knock it till you have tried it
I've never even thought about getting on a hot air balloon
🎈 @1:08 ~ Maybe I’m wrong, but that seems like a bad move by the pilot to light the flame in the middle of a crash. I’m guessing he wanted to save his balloon, which I understand, but that does not seem like the right choice. Because what could’ve happened it could’ve lit the balloon on fire because of the awkward angle and then people could’ve been severely burned or killed. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am.
Anybody have any knowledge on this? Or the same opinion or different opinion?
In fact I am with you on this one. As it touched those trees, I thought to myself maybe he should've just let it crash considering that the height at that point was negotiable as opposed to the alternative. This is one accident with serious casualties.
Why didn't he light up the flame before crashing into the trees itself
@@prabankumarbasumatary7809 Because he has a terminal case of the dumbs.
He did. He had it firing while it was descending. Apparently it wasn’t enough the overcome the downdraft.
That makes no sense
The day I get in one of those is the day the ground around me is about to be covered in lava and that is the only way to escape. 😂
Only comment that makes sense.
The flats with scaffolding near the crash site me and my friend were about 10ft away there was a massive crunch. We're you in a balloon f so the Michelin one?
N
I was in the Goodyear one, that's a proper airship
Was BoJo the pilot?
I remember as a kid in the 80s seeing loads of hot Air balloons in the sky here in UK during the summer....ahh memories!
The 80s were the best. Cheap gas. Use to cost me £20 a flight. Now it's around £80! I couldnt afford to fly now
Wonder what they threw out of the basket after rising back up into sky?
tree debris from the contact
I think someone panicked and threw their child out
A corpse
@@des_smith7658 what psychopathic person would do that
@@joshoconnor9666 it was too small for a corpse, if you watch close
You have as much control of one of these as a drifting raft out at sea……

lucky nobody fell out but looked like goin very quick
Look again. Two People are falling.
@@amourgloireetbeaute7051 At least that would help get more lift
@@amourgloireetbeaute7051 could’ve been 2 people falling,

Asleep at the wheel!!!
Did they throw their stuffs down or some jumped out of it?
Sometimes they throw bags of sand out
I love the evil music
I would never set foot in one. Lethal things.

Because most people travel by car and not hot air balloons
After the balloon came out of trees & rose again it looked like something was thrown out of the balloon?
It was the branches from the tree but it could also be some ballast.
Thanks for reply
there was smoke comeing out cant keep balloon oval 140 decas
Nah, just a dumb pilot testing how true his fireproof Nomex is
That's bad
Hopefully nobody was injured?

Bad piloting I would say!
oh god thats bad
oh god
Looks like between 1:20-1:40 they jump out.
Definitely looks like at least one bailed.
Correction, it was something being tossed that resembles a body at fast speed. Watch slower and see it's size is too small and is probably a backpack.
@@FightBackorDie2024 Tree debris. They don't have to throw anything of any weight out of a hot air balloon because you can just adjust the vents to descend . If you wish to ascend you would obviously close them and apply the hot air from the propane burners, for a powerful blast of a few seconds.
Probably duty free stuff
Damn that was lucky
No. Not Lucky. One passenger is falling...
The passengers had won a lucky prize draw to fly it
Why would anyone go in one of these things?
Why would you go in a car? Or a plane? Or on a rollercoaster?
@@ZipBalloon1989 cars, planes, and rollercoasters have more safety features by design, way safer than a hot air balloon so not really comparable.

Hot air balloon fear you
