Here is the trim relay we used: amzn.to/3J6rJvq I will update this description once we've had time to see if this relay will last! I'm absolutely planning on a video, and I need to get the speakers I bought for my car installed rather than leaving them sitting on the shelf where they are right now lol
Great video! I have twin engines. Both tilt trim switches on the sides of both engines work fine. When I press the throttle switch (thumb button), only the port engine works, both up and down. The starboard engine, nothing. Also, the individual tilt trim switches on the base of the throttle control, only the port works. The starboard does not work. Could this also be relay related, or something in the helm? Thank you!
If the buttons on the engines cowling works properly up and down then your relay and trim motor are fine, the problem is either the switch in the throttle handle, or something with the wiring from the handle to the motor.
I agree. The thumb switch works for the port engine, just not the Starboard. I beive I read there are individual relays coming out of the throttle box. Thank you
Hi, I saw your video after changing the trim motor, I also changed the trim relay and I still hear the clicking sound when I press the switch down or up, I don't know what else to do.
If you connect power directly to the blue and green wires that go to the pump will it do anything? Like take them off the relay and connect jumper cables or such to put power direct to the motor.
I do not, They are quite simple though, I believe the grey wire from the engine feeds the tach, Some are a stator winding, others are alternator sensing, depends on what motor exactly. I see a lot of actual tachometers fail, very rarely the wiring or engine side stuff.
I have a tiller handle Yamaha and the trim works fine on the engine but on the tiller handle the trim up doesn’t want to work, I can get it to sometimes but it’ll go out would this be the fix for it? Or is it wiring in the tiller handle trim button
If it consistently works from the switch on the motor but not the tiller switch then it seems like it would have to be the wiring or most likely the switch on the tiller handle, it probably sees a lot more use than the one on the motor, could just be the switch is worn out.
My 2014 F150 will go down but not up using both cowling and throttle switches. No click when I push up. I replaced the relay and still the same. If i reverse the blue and green wires, I can raise the tilt using the down button in this reversed configuration. Could both switches have failed or could my replacement relay be defective? seems unlikely. Thanks!
I would wonder if maybe the up trigger wire to the relay could be faulty, it would be rare to get a bad relay out of the box, but it could happen. I would check to see if the 12v signal is getting to the relay to switch it, and trace backwards from there, I don't have the wire color codes in front of me right now, but you should be able to see them at the trim switch that is on the motor cowl easily and test the switch with a multimeter
@@trythistv That is the next step. Since I could not raise the motor using the remote or cowl switches, I just assumed the relay was bad. Probably a bad assumption. It's odd that neither switch functions to raise the motor if it is a single faulty switch.
Great vid. I have a question. Our trim (Yamaha 200HP, 1996) is working just fine when going down. When going up only the lower pistons work. The one in the center doesn’t do a thing except for some noise. All seals have been replaced. Oil is ok. We tried the trim directly on the battery which gave us the same result. Have you got any idea?
I'd bet you've got some air in the system still, they all run off the same reservoir, and if the seals are good then likely you just don't have quite enough fluid to fill both of the side pistons and the center one. I would try adding fluid and trimming up gradually and see if it can raise further
The solenoid comes as a whole packaged assembly basically, it technically has 2 relays in it basically, which both normally connect to negative, and pushing the trim button sends positive power to one lead or the other so it reverses the direction of the motor. it plugs in to one connector and gets a couple wires attached with ring terminals, does both directions. If one of the relays fails, it'll typically remain stuck connected to ground so you will have one direction the trim will work and the other won't do anything.
@@trythistv okay thanks, we had issues with our 2012 f90, changed the solenoid, changed the button, changed the motor and now it seems like solenoid issues again, it won't try to move up or down but if I put direct power on it, it moves
Very likely the relay in this video. Could be the motor, but thats a simple test I show about 2 minutes into this video: ua-cam.com/video/l2bUDJ8dj1U/v-deo.html
I have no movement but clicking at each button on dual engine setup. I replaced batteries and still just click at throttle, click on individual buttons on throttle base and click on each motor button…
Have you tried replacing the relay? It could be the motor itself is bad also, I did a video on diagnosing a motor vs a bad relay as well: ua-cam.com/video/l2bUDJ8dj1U/v-deo.html
He was probably taking a nap. When it gets too hot outside he takes long naps, its tough not having my helper but I still managed to get the relay replaced 😁
Anyone have a Yamaha F40 2000? From all videos I can see, the trim relay is well accessible, but on a 2000, only half of relay (if not third) is accessible, other half is way to deep in metal casing!! According to repair diagram, the relay has only 1 screw (where accessible) that holds it on to casing, but even with that screw out, relay wont budge :(. I can only test green, which already works on switch... there is no way i can get to blue connection.
Its running like a champ! Still haven't fixed the brakes, but everything else is working good. it has needed some hoses here and there, and some other little things but it runs so good and is extremely handy. I wish I could find the stuff to build a driveshaft so I could use the 4x4 on it.
I'd sure like mine to work, but its a big job to fix them. I've been working up the motivation to do it for a few years now... still don't have enough 😂

Is it still working. I'm considering ordering the same one. Thankyou
This is the problem I'm having. Works up but not down. Thanks for the video.
Hopefully it helped you get it working again!
Great explantion and video, thanks man!
glad it was helpful!
good video! hoping you consider doing a video on the w123 speakers, also, facial hair looks good on ya!

Thanks much. this is exactly my problem on my F115. what is yours?

Do you have a video of checking the tach on a 90hp yamaha 4 stroke

Diagnostics are often a bit vague, replacing the relay is an obvious and easy first step, but since that wasn't the problem it means more digging.

Of course! Hope you get your tilt/trim sorted out!
Can we see the new solenoid wired up? What did you change on it?

Hi, please lead me to a warehouse i can buy the used OEM trim tilt motor for LF115XA 2013. Greatly appreciate.
What if it does not go up or down all you get is a clicking sound?

My motor only blows a fuse when I trim it down and works fine when I trim up. Is it a good guess that the down relay is bad?
Yep, Likely one side of the relay is shorted to ground

I don't recall having seen that style personally yet, There has to be some way to remove the cover or relay
