- The Venezuelan government has said opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González has left the country for Spain, where he is to be granted political asylum.
Mr González has been in hiding ever since an arrest warrant was issued after he disputed July's presidential election result - in which the government-controlled National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Nicolás Maduro the winner.
Venezuela's Vice-President Delcy Rodríguez said in a post on social media that after "voluntarily" seeking refuge at the Spanish embassy in Caracas some days ago, Mr Gonzalez asked the Spanish government for political asylum.
She added that Caracas had agreed to his safe passage and that he had left.

Don't think so, the military is loyal to peace over party. They have acted against the extreme on both sides, and when led to places (like that one time, under false pretense, by Leo Lopez and Juan Guydo) and ordered to hit civs, they've refused orders from both sides.

Spain currently has a sophisticated foreign policy. Tolerant but pro-active. While previously banning arms supplies to Israel because of serious violations of international humanitarian law it also is taking in refugees and those seeking political asylum from countries at odds with the American world order.
Edmundo González is not a presidential candidate, he is the elected president. It´s undoubtely and publicly proven. The tragedy is WHY he is leaving the country, why he asked for political asylum not that such asylum was granted. Words and facts are important. More important that anything else.

Their descendants are therefore not spaniards but Venezuelan. Venezuela, also, received at least thousands of Spanish immigrants from Spanish Civil War. Their descendants, who are Venezuelan (previous Constitution only allowed one nationality) from 1999 can have both nationalities (from the Constitution of such year). And no, the majority of venezuelan are NOT spanish descendants only. There are descedants from aborigen people, from former slaves from africa, there are some that are decendants from other countries (Italy, Portugal, Germany, Argentina, Mexico, Hungary, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, among many others) and besides all that, the absolutely majority of the Venezuelans are currently descendants from the mix among spaniards, blacks and aborigen people and those descedentands of the mix between all of them for more than 200 hundred years.

At one time the people of America now, over 70 were taught 6 years of English, and 6 years of Latin in our lovely free public schools. English was taught from K-6 grade, Latin was taught from 7th grade thru 12th grade. This was an arduous task that required a lot of homework, from students. Americans were bilingual they're not anymore. I think it's interesting that no Hollywood movie has ever been made about this. My question for people is why they don't talk about that? Today it costs on average 50hr. to learn Latin. There are private Latin tutors that poor people can't afford to teach their kids Latin. The problem my Loves, is that poor people including the Bronx in New York, were taught Latin for free up until 50 years ago; today my Loves, they're not. As the French say c'est la vie!
I think you have an education fantasy going on if you think the USA schools were teaching poor or even middle class people in the USA Latin. None of my family that grew up and went to school in the 1920s, 30s, 40s were taught Latin. My uncle learned Spanish in the 1930s-40s, but not Latin. Why would anyone want to learn Latin anyway? I thought that was reserved for Catholic oppressors.

BBC is funded by the licence fee. The state simply collects it for them. BBC is independent and one of the most reputable news sources around the world, nevermind in the UK. It's a much needed institution when in other countries everyone is pulling to polar opposite news sources on social media
