There are perhaps a million versions and renditions of Foggy Mountains Brakdown in the world. But Flatt and Scrugs were the first, and will probably remain the first forever.
"They didn't start chasing us until you turned on that getaway music!" Still the best accompaniment to driving country back roads, anywhere, any time. :)
You have to get the air checks of him performing with Monroe on the Opry in 1946 and 47. Nothing else compares, it makes Van Halen seem like Lawrence Welk!, Reallty Really hot even compared with this with him and Monroe in competition and it driving Monroe's singing and mandolin play over the top. You havent lived until you hear that
One of my very earliest memories was standing on top of a bale of hay balancing with my right arm around my Ma, with my face not much more than 12 inches away from the right elbow of one of these guys at one of those nationally-transmitted "Barn Dance" radio shows ... even at that age (possibly not even 2) I was acutely aware that those two were indescribably talented, which is why I remember it from all those decades ago. (our family, the six of us, had been sat on hay bales onstage for the show. There were no other audience members up there.)
I watch/listen to those and I think of my Dad and how he used to play this song on his Gibson Mastertone RB250 Banjo, he even had his own phrases he would add in, and I hear them as I listen to this. Much Respect to all the Banjo players out there, especially those of you who are Dad's.
My dream one day is to go to the Grand ole o prey, and I will get there one day, so many legends have graced the stage… until then greetings from England 🏴 2022
Calm, Cool, and Collected-Applies to individuals. Calm, Cool, and COLLECTIVE...OUR NEW ARMY...AS COOL AS EARL SCRUGGS AND LESTER FLAT PLAYING THEIR INSTRUMENTS...ALL HAIL THE BANJO!
My God, this was performed and broadcast in the year of my birth! The inexorable march of Time...but let's listen to some good music along the way...lol! No, seriously, LET'S...
This could be the legit cure for depression. Instead of all of that garbage xanax and wellbutrin and ativan, just play this as soon as you wake up, and the day will be just fine. Heck, this could be a great song to play during high level government meetings between the U.S., China, and Russia!
I've become one mean son of a bitch, Brother...getting meaner by the minute...YOU REMEMBER HOW MEAN MY MEAN IS...WELL, IT'S GOTTEN SO MANY TIMES (MANY MOONS) MEANER...I believe you know exactly what I mean... Soon it will be TIME FOR THE SUPER-SOLDIERS TO FIGHT IN THE MIDDLE EAST...But in the meantime...LET'S ENJOY "FOGGY MOUNTAIN BREAKDOWN..."

@@dreijmer I like very much American Bluegrass. Greeting from CZ.
@@markrush5013 Yes, Scrugs was the writer.
Difficult to see how they won’t ‘remain the first forever' unless someone invents a Time Machine ;-)
I'd give anything to hear my grandpa pick that 5 string just 1more time. Oh Lord what I would give. I miss that old man

it does not get any better than this.
Agreed
Word.
No one can or could do it like Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. They were and always will be the best
All those years ago remember watching on the t v. Usually on a Saturday night program.. 66 now and its still awesome
Those were the days... so much talent, one single microphone to be shared! :)
They got that idea from the grey sisters sharing an eye, or so I'm led to believe.
Earl Scruggs was the Eddie Valen of bluegrass
Genius
Hell yes! An "eruption" of good music...Lol!

VAN HALEN, not "Valen".
"Foggy Mountain Breakdown" should be our national anthem.
I concur,absolutely!
Maybe the anthem of Tennessee... imagine the relay races they'd win
It would probably offend a GenZflake
Well just hold that thought because a revolution is just around the corner.
Now that would be cool!
Paul Warren was tearing that fiddle up, no doubt.
Paul Warren seems like such a swell guy! I love his version of whoa mule whoa on Earls banjo, he's having a ball xD

That tune is timeless. Of your experience, I'd day, entropy arrested, held on bale.

The Eddie Van Halen, Charlie Parker of banjo. Has to rank as one of the most original and influential instrumentalists in history of American music
My dream one day is to go to the Grand ole o prey, and I will get there one day, so many legends have graced the stage… until then greetings from England 🏴 2022
Holy cow. So fluid, so smooth.
Earl Scruggs owned that banjo.

Still love me some Lonesome Ruben. Flatts & Scruggs with a dash of Doc Watson. Best Bluegrass era ever.
It's been a long time since I listened to Brian Setzer's cover, and I finally got here. Respect from Japan
You boys best be smiling when you play this.
Phew... this song really stirs the spirit
My clogging team danced to FMB by Flatt & Scruggs.
And you lived? Must have had oxygen on site.
You can't beat it.
“It’s all fun and games ‘till the banjos come out!” 🤣

Once upon a time people could actually play music by themselves without computers....
Yes there are no musical instruments left in the world, and nobody plays them at all, great comment.
Fucking dumb dumb alert 🚨 there’s more people playing instruments worldwide than ever 🤣
No one can out banjo a Hillbilly...
