    I absolutely love the meticulous structure and attention to detail - it must have taken ages, but is ever the more convincing in credibility. And as I'm evaluating if I for a small swap fee should go P14s Gen 2 from Gen 1 this was all I needed to decide. With this approach to reviews, I've already Liked and Subscribed. Thank you for the hard work!

      Thanks for the warm words, much appreciated.
      Gen 2 is very tempting. Personally using a Gen 1 with 4750U still, slightly inclined to wait for the Gen 3 (but as mentioned gen 2 is tempting - I could do with even more single threaded performance).

      It's not too economic to do reviews like this (the audience drop-off vs mainstream is a bit steep; it's a nice niche I suppose). Thankfully we don't have to do many each year. Just a few products.
      This message is brought to you by the LTT store (I joke).

    Thanks for your review. After watching it I got my P14s Gen 2 5850U. After 3 weeks of intensive use I am very happy with it... only one thing.. when left alone (it goes in stand by mode/sleeping mode) the fan starts to "spin" and there is a clicking "mechanical" noise.... but when I use the notebook I hardly hear the fan nor any sound at all!!! Should I worry about it? Thanks in advance!

    • @GreenGreenStore
      @GreenGreenStore  3 роки тому +2

      First part, maybe something a future version of BIOS release could optimise for.
      Second part, re: noise - as long as when it spins up it works, it's fine. Fans may rarely be very slightly de-centred / it doesn't typically affect the performance; when you get the unit serviced under warranty in 2-3 years (e.g. thermal paste refresh), just mention it then to Lenovo - they may be able to replace the heatsink&fan. Not really urgent from the sound of it.

    Thanks for the info, after some deliberation I ordered this p14 gen2 amd, most configs are not in stock or stupidly priced so it was between e14 amd or this one. e14 was better value but i was bothered by less usb and the hdmi 1.4 so had to be this one.
    About the wireless comment, afaik in the amd model wireless card can be swapped out, which i am hoping as my machine will come with realtek one and I want to have another try at Linux as desktop and wouldn't want to mess with kernel recompiles (modules, dependencies, updates... ugh...).
    Basically Lenovo didn't offer any real option, the ones existing were expensive and/or with 6+ weeks shipping, so i found the 1 store in Germany that had one config so I guess I'll take it. The 1400 euro i'll pay for the 32 gb ram version (base ssd, will have to upgrade it myself looking at the pricing) is a lot of money for a personal laptop but there's not a lot of good options, even used prices are pretty crazy. A t480 is half this price with third the performance.

  • @quantum3712
    @quantum3712 3 роки тому

    Hello, in my country t14 2nd gen amd is costing slightly lesser on the same configuration as it is on p14s. Is there a difference otherwise on the basis of performance or other factora? Should i go for t14 2nd gen for better value?

      Fyi
      www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/p5sblo/p14s_gen_2_amd_v_t14_gen_2_amd/?
      That said, T series might in time, have a marginally better reselling price, if you upgrade in time. Simply because more people are aware that T14 exists (could go the other way too though).

    What would you say are the significant differences between the : ThinkPad P14s Gen 2 AMD 5850U vs ThinkPad P14s Gen 1 AMD 4750U?
    In your opinion would buying the Gen 2 over the Gen 1 worth it? If so, why?

    • @GreenGreenStore
      @GreenGreenStore  3 роки тому

      Depends on if you have the Gen 1 already or not. Not upgrading my P14s gen 1 with 4750U if that's what you're asking (too marginal imo for everyday workload + close to RRP pricing still). Better to wait for the generation afterwards. If money was no object, then gen 2 will be faster.
      Goto the benchmark section as that's there the differences are.

      @@GreenGreenStore Sorry, I should've given more context.
      I am looking into getting a new computer and wondering if the Thinkpad P14s AMD Gen 2 is significantly better than the Gen 1.
      As far as I understand, the Gen 1 comes equipped with a Ryzen 7 4750U, and the Gen 2 with a Ryzen 7 5650U or 5850U?
