Hey man! Great tutorial. I unfortunately run into issues with Greyscalegorilla Plugins and Octane X. Everytime i try to assign a material the software crashes. Did you run into these kind of problems?
Hey man! No worries at all, did this work for you to get it installed? As for Greyscalegorilla I have had a lot of issues in the past with the materials in there and crashing Octane on a Mac. Unfortunately I didn't have a quick fix for this, and ended up using the materials in GSG as a "guide" on how to create them myself. I think a lot of it is to do with the 8K resolution of a lot of the textures that GSG comes with, and unfortunately there isn't a LOD slider that allows you to downscale easily. My work around for this was: Create a new scene, add the material you like to a random object, and then go in and find the source files for the texture in the node editor, open the files in photoshop and create half resolution textures (4096px by 4096 px), and then relink them within the scene. I think copy that object into the new scene and replace the material that way. According to my friends this problem isn't a thing on Windows, but it's probably just the way the materials are created which puts too much stress on the system. Either way, I've learned a lot about creating materials this way, and hopefully it will help you!
@@pro.tharan Thanks for your reply! Yes installation etc worked easily following your tutorial. I messaged GSG support to know if they have any fix or if it's a known problem. Will let you know what they answer.

@@matyasblaha7302 Bingo, You have to use Monterey for this to work! The version for MacOS Ventura should coming soon but there's no timeline yet, and do not know if that version will be free of it you will need an Octane license.
The one in the App Store is just the Octane Standalone, and not a plug-in for cinema4D. It’s used for viewing ORBX files and sending an already created scene to check before rendering. You have to follow the download link in my description for the installation to work, please look at my new video on my channel which should help you.
Hello, I have yet to find a way to make Octane work on my relatively new Mac Studio. I followed the steps in this video: ua-cam.com/video/N8HEepXm9q0/v-deo.html The problem occurs as soon as I copy the octane files into the plugin folder: C4D consequentially gives an error message that the source is unverified. When I remove said files I can open C4d but the octane live viewer window logically displays a 'there is no GPU' error message. I also used the terminal command to disable, but as soon as I do that C4D (version 25) crashes immediately. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue? Thanks! Hey no worries! For Big Sur and Octane it’s a bit tricky, I would recommend upgrading if you can, if not try and use the PR11 version!
@@pro.tharan What is PR11 version? I just downloaded in the link you gave us(( macOS 12.3.1(M1 cpu) BUILD (R25-R26/R2023) )), and I proceeded in the order you told me in the video, but the Octane tab was not created. What could it be for?
@@Susan-u6i Do you have an M1 Chip?
@@pro.tharan No, i dont have M1 chip..
@@Susan-u6i Then you can not use this method, as I say at the beginning of the video. You will have to use an older version, which you can find on the downloads page of the otoy website, but you must have to pay for a license in order to use and will not be free.
You saved my life hahahhahaha thanks very thanks man!
No worries man, I’ve already got a new video which shows you how to install a newer version ua-cam.com/video/yFZiTt9IJPg/v-deo.html
I am getting an error "There is no GPU device which is selected" I am running cinema 4d 2023.2.0 on M2 Pro on Mac OS sonoma. I tried enabling M2 Pro from Octane settings but still no luck. Please help
hi, have you fixed the issue yet? I have a M3 Pro with Sonoma and have the same problem
C4D no deted Octane plugin
Hey, I tried it with R26 with M1 Pro chip and when I try to render it says:"There is no CUDA device which is selected..." Any idea? Anyway nice tutorial.
Oh, I see, it could be that I have MacOS Ventura, right ?
@@matyasblaha7302 Bingo, You have to use Monterey for this to work! The version for MacOS Ventura should coming soon but there's no timeline yet, and do not know if that version will be free of it you will need an Octane license.
@@matyasblaha7302 Hey! Just to let you know that a new version is out that works for Ventura, the link is in the description as November Update
@@pro.tharan Awesome! Thanks for the info!
is this available for windows 10?
NO! нет иди покупай свой макбук
how can I use the one I downloaded from the App Store cos I have followed the tutorial but its saying something about error activation
The one in the App Store is just the Octane Standalone, and not a plug-in for cinema4D. It’s used for viewing ORBX files and sending an already created scene to check before rendering. You have to follow the download link in my description for the installation to work, please look at my new video on my channel which should help you.
When i close Octane Viewer, Cinema 4D is crashing. And when i open old projects, all Octane materials looks - black.
This also apply in M3?
which difference between C4d R25 and C4d 2023?
I added the folder and the plugin files but I don't see the plugin at the time I'm using cinema4d. I have a mac m1, do you know what else I can do?
Did you do the terminal command? And are you sure you downloaded the new link?
Hello,
I have yet to find a way to make Octane work on my relatively new Mac Studio.
I followed the steps in this video: ua-cam.com/video/N8HEepXm9q0/v-deo.html
The problem occurs as soon as I copy the octane files into the plugin folder: C4D consequentially gives an error message that the source is unverified.
When I remove said files I can open C4d but the octane live viewer window logically displays a 'there is no GPU' error message.
I also used the terminal command to disable, but as soon as I do that C4D (version 25) crashes immediately.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue?
Thanks!
Mac studio specs:
Apple M1 Max
64 gig RAM
MacOS Sonoma (!)
I followed the steps exactly but when i open up c4d and try to add the octane material, it just comes up empty. Do you know why?
Okay that’s strange, you should be able. What laptop do you have?
@@pro.tharan Macbook Pro M1 Max
I have a newer video than the one you followed, try and install this one and see if you still have the same issues: ua-cam.com/video/yFZiTt9IJPg/v-deo.html

Only for M1 Mac’s currently, wouldn’t work too well on your machine unfortunately either
Still not working. M1 Monterey R25. Bummed

It’s working for me no problem, try the new link to RC in description
When I open Live Viewer appear this error "Error processing request: Impossible to complete ( Error kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork -1001). Octane X activarion error

Are you connected to the internet? If not make sure you are, and outside of that I’m not sure so you may need to reach out to otoy support!
@@pro.tharan Ok, i've solved this problem TY!
But now I've another one (lol), when i start a render appear this "There is no GPU device which is selected..."

Solved! I forgot to select the Apple M1 in Octane Settings :)
Thank you man!
Hmm that’s super strange, which OS you running??
Hey man i got the following problem, i created a mix material, for the amount i want to use a vertex map. every time i connect the vertex node with the amount my c4d and octane crashes. this appears also when no using the node editor. you got any solutions for that?
Hey mate! Hope this helps, I watched Silverwing's video a couple of weeks ago which shows another way of connecting vertex maps, as the C4D Vertex shader can be buggy as hell on mac. Here is his solution, let me know if that works for you, if not we can try something else! ua-cam.com/video/nm2FSVKKFOI/v-deo.html
@@pro.tharan Hey man, thanks for this tip, this absolutely fixed it. Now I still have the problem, that c4d crashes randomly, like the program does not close, It's still open, but the rainbow mouse wheel appears and I can't even control anything inside the program...
Hey man! Glad I could help! Hmmm that’s strange, I haven’t had any issues like that with it constantly spinning out. How big is your scene? And have you optimised al of your materials? (Using float for B&W image textures, etc). If you’re also using any volumes that can also spin out Octane the previous Mac version. I also released a new video to instal the newest version of octane (if you haven’t done it already) which has been a lot more stable for me. Anyway let me know what you’re working on, and we can hopefully fix it together!
@@pro.tharan Thanks for the quick response. I think its not because of octane, even when i have a small scene it happens.... also when im not using octane
That’s strange, what’s specs do you have for your machine?
Hey there! I have followed all your steps however it still says "no gpu selected" when i try running octane render, not sure what is missing. For my info on my system, it is an IMac Monterey (v12.6) and my graphic card is AMD Radeon Pro 5300. Would sincerely appreciate it if you could assist me on what I did wrong as I have been stucked on this and need some help to rectify it. Thanks in advance!!
Update- sorry just realized this is only available for M1 chips. So will octane not work for mac users using amd chips? Or do we have to download a different version? Thank you again for the help in advance!
@@Bingbangbong28 Hey mate! Yes unfortunately this method is for M1 only, they are prioritising that over the older AMD chip machines. To use Octane for AMD, you need to use PR11 and have a subscription with them, there is no free version :)
@@pro.tharan thank you so much for taking the time to reply, sincerely appreciate it 🫶🏻

Are you able to use the denoiser?
Hey yes denoiser works, check out my reddit post on more info specifically about that: www.reddit.com/r/Octane/comments/ypjum5/rc1_cinema_4d_plugin_out_now_for_m1_macs_running/?context=3
@@pro.tharan Hi there! I am on M1 max Monterey with C4D R25 and got the latest octane plugin (prime 2022.1) but my denoiser still seems not working. I already checked your reddit post and dowloaded the test file. DeMain and Main are basically the same. When I send the file to render with denoiser turned on, it just won't stop rendering the image, even when it has finished to the last sample. It just keeps loading till infinity. Am I doing something wrong or it does not work for you as well?
@@blackhawk1234gamer Hi there! Very interesting, are you sure you are using the most up to date plug in? I just released a new video, if you follow that tutorial and install that version (RC3) and then give it another test that would be great. I know it running perfectly in the Mac Standalone app (as I usually send my scenes to RNDR) but give that a try first, and if it doesn't work we'll go from there :) ua-cam.com/video/yFZiTt9IJPg/v-deo.html
@@pro.tharan So yeah, with the latest RC3 plugin you posted today the denoiser does finally work. Thank you very much! It really helped me timewise not having to render my uni assignments on like 6000 samples.
@@blackhawk1234gamer Awesome, glad it worked and good luck with your uni assignment! If you're trying to render bigger scenes from a laptop, look into RNDR (it's changed my workflow completely). Where is windows ???
Have to pay for windows, only free as it's an experimental build (beta) version of Octane for Mac.
Thanks for the video but I think you should spend less time explaining how to use macOS, creating folders etc. It's not totally relevant
The plug-in doesn’t work properly unless you install it in the right place, under the exact naming conventions mentioned. It’s an easy mistake to make for a beginner trying to install the plug in, and was the method shown to me by the otoy support team which is exactly how they explained it. Don’t shoot the messenger!
@@pro.tharan ok, I just mean that part can be shorten and can go like: "create the following new empty folder as shown here" etc. Just constructive feedback on length, ofc you should show these steps

@@pro.tharan Thank you so much for answering me, I left a comment two days ago I think it's in your spam as you said you didn't delete anything. I explain my problem to you.
I have followed your video to the letter several times but this message always comes out on my octane Live Viewer. Here is the message it shows me "There is no CUDA device which is selected..." I don't know what to do anymore please help me. I have a MacBook pro M1, a few weeks ago my Octane was working fine without problem but after updating Ventura 13.0 my octane no longer works I even changed the version of my C4d but it still does not work not.
There’s your problem right there. The issue is that you updated to Ventura. It is not supported by Octane currently, you have to downgrade to Monterey in order for this to work. At the beginning of the video I explain that you MUST be running Monterey. The only options you have to get octane working are to downgrade, or wait until Octane is released for Ventura. I hope this helps you. If you downgrade, watch the video again and it will work perfectly.
@@pro.tharan Ok thank you very much I understand now I don't know how to downgrade to Monterey. Can you please help me more thank you.

Thanks, I'm trying, but octane it doesn't show up in the menu. I'm on C4D R26 and I left the c4dOctane-R26.xlib only [MacBook Pro M1 - Big Sur]
Hey! You're issue is that you're running Big Sur, and this is for Monterey machines only. You have 2 options:
1 - upgrade to Monterey (you probably should by this point if you want to best out of Octane)
2 - If you want to stay on Big Sur, watch my previous video: ua-cam.com/video/N8HEepXm9q0/v-deo.html
You will need to download the Octane X PR11 Version for Big Sur.
Hope that helps and let me know what you decide!
