  • Dive into the world of violin harmonics with this comprehensive guide! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, understanding harmonics will add a unique touch to your playing.
🤔 What are harmonics, and how are they notated in violin music? In this video, I break down the concepts of natural and artificial harmonics, making it easy for you to explore these fun techniques.
    🎵 Natural Harmonics:
1️⃣ Learn the fundamental natural harmonic, occurring on each string when divided in half. Master the art of creating that magical whistling sound with your pinky!
2️⃣ Discover harmonics by dividing the string into thirds and fifths, producing beautiful and distinct tones.
3️⃣ Explore the use of finger placement and string division to create harmonics effortlessly.
    🔍 Harmonic Notation Explained:
Natural Harmonics: Recognize the diamond-shaped note heads and number-zero combinations indicating harmonic positions.
Artificial Harmonics: Understand the solid note heads with diamond-shaped notes or double stops, guiding you to create artificial harmonics.

I’m having trouble finding with the artificial harmonic when the finger note is a solid quarter note in the artificial pinky note is a half note?

It is tricky and will probably take some trial and error. I would also practice just the 1st finger to 4th finger notes regularly, not as harmonics. If they're not perfectly in tune when you play them normally, you won't be able to play the harmonic.

As someone who enjoys orchestrating, the string section is the most fastidious section ro write for. Just because you write it, doesn't mean they'll play it, or grunt about it. I get feedback from musicians and All comments are obviously considered, since I'm not a violinist. You want us to play those A6, G6, F6 and then a harmonic E going to C7? Why not make them all harmonic? That ligature is kind of long. Double stops? They may end up playing it divissi. Please don't indicate bown down or bow up, we'll write those out. That pizzacato with the sudden arco will be uncomfortable to play. I sometimes play air violin just to get a better sense when writing a crescendo or decrescendo, to see in which direction they might be bowing. It doesn't matter, they'll bow whichever way pleases them. My solution? I will write the notes and you make it sound preaty. I considered violin lesson, but that doesn't really help with the viola. They are trouble makers! So here I am watching one more violin how to video.😒🙄😉

I had to laugh at this because you described a a violin section perfectly! We can be quite fastidious!

@@MeadowlarkViolin Yes, I find Myself watching all these channels hoping one day I'll get it right. Now when I write for violins I go and ask a violinist. Is this OK? I see, so this ligature works, but that same ligature on the other page doesn't? Well, it's kind of blah, blah, blah 🙄. But an orchestra is hollow without you guys. So I will continue to do my best and make you all shine. And one day, I might just throw in a left hand pizzicato, just for the fun of it.😆
