      I was born in 80, grew up to listening to the G.O.A.T shred, blasting our garage speakers with my father working on his race car. Brings back such great moments and memories, RIP EVH,
      I told my father about about EVH passing, he was shocked.

      I saw them in Providence, RI on this tour. The energy was kinetic between the four of them. I love the original Roth era, but the addition of Hagar launched them into another musical stratosphere at that time. Hagar’s vocal range opened up so many more possibilities for Ed to explore with arrangements & changes that they never would have been capable of with Roth’s limited vocal capabilities. Ed was like re-born on this tour and you can see & hear it. Thanks for posting this video. Brings back so many great memories of those times.

    I will say it a million times, and mean it everytime Being a guitarist myself, I know what EVH was to me. Everyone else here knows what he meant to them. You can throw out all the superlatives you want about The Master, but there is never going to be an argument about his mastery of his chosen art. No else had players around the planet going "What the F is that". From his grin to his fingers Eddie was born to bring us joy through his expression of his art, and you can thank whatever god you believe in that he shared his joy with us.
    ALWAYS #1
    UNPARALLELED.
    When the master emerged, from the opening chords of you really got me, every player knew the sonic landscape was changed in a way that was unheard of up to that time. Eruption smashed his foot onto your throat daring you to try to emulate him. No one can.
    There was never anyone like him, and there will never be another, and I miss his artistry.

      You can see him enjoying perfecting his craft, such showmanship, the whole band putting on one of the best shows i have ever seen, granted I was only 6 when this show took place, but as I watch it today, I would have absolutely loved being there. Watching @StevefromBoston video of him absolutely heartbroken, shows how much EVH influenced musicians globally. There will never be anyone quite like EVH, but his legacy lives on, and I'm sure he's looking down on all of us, with that charismatic smile, and telling us all to cheer up, cause he's not suffering anymore, and to shred on, cause even though he's physically gone, his spirit lives on strongly, and its our duty to keep his legacy alive.

    My first concert ever was Monsters of Rock LA Coliseum. Two riots that day. It was so hot. 9 hours of heavy metal, with the King wrapping it up. I fell in love with VH that day and it hasn’t changed. I was 16.
    Fast forward a few years ago, I go see The Circle. And just in case, I bring my Monsters of Rock shirt from 1988. I manage to get to the front, and while Sammy’s singing Why Can’t This Be Love, I roll it in a ball and hurl it onstage, where it lands at his feet. He signs it, and throws it back into the crowd and then takes a swig of his new rum, pours us in the front shots and continues to kick ass the rest of the show with Michael Anthony.
    It was during a rough time in my life and now it’s framed with my 5150 album.
    We miss you Ed.

    I saw the brand new Van Halen 5150 tour live in Worcester MA. at the CENTRUM. It was the summer of 1986 and I just graduated High School. There was no rock band that could touch them at the time. 5150 was huge and Sammy was welcomed with open arms by Van Halen fans. It was a magical time for the new Van Halen line up and fans. I am happy to say that I experienced and lived during their huge success.

    On the plus side, we got EVH throughout his prime. We don't have a series of what-ifs like with Hendrix or Cobain, or any number of other greats. He got the chance to show the world his talent in the context of a great band. We're very lucky for that.

      Same here brother. My tribute on Facebook:
      This one hurts! It cuts deep. If music is a rainbow, we lost a color!
      The moment my life was altered was July 22nd. 1980!
      I was eleven years old. My brother Joe and I had our mother drop us off at the Civic Center in Baltimore, MD.
      What I witnessed that night forever changed my life. Edward Lodewijk Van Halen altered me on a molecular level. He rearranged my DNA.
      There are so many articles written about and videos demonstrating his technique but his timing, feel and tone are what people are feeling. Like Hendrix or Jeff Beck, their heart beats differently. The way he felt time (with his brother) was singular....
      I have never played his stuff though physically I can. My wife asked once why I didn’t... simple. I still hear and listen like that 11 year old did when I saw him in 1980 (and again in 2005)! It sounds magical when you haven’t dissected it or analyzed it!
      The King has been silenced but he will live on forever in the music! Listen to the first four albums and tell me who had a better distorted tone.... I’ll wait because I know the answer! No one!
      Edward I will forever treasure your feel, soul and heart! It created my love of the guitar!
      My condolences to his brother, son, wife and all guitar players across the globe!
      Frank Dominick
      New Cumberland, Pennsylvania

    I am very very very blessed to say I got to hear these guys in Concert in Southern Calif in 1980s. My 1st time ever hearing them in person and a time I will never forget. We were a standing crowd audience only and being apx 50-60 foot back from the stage blew your ears, mind and body totally off your feet. I was always a fan of very loud music but, truly this was on another level. They had a way of Amps that took up the whole stage. Every note would hit you in the chest like a Top Fuel Dragster. To think I was blessed to have seen these guys in their early and in my lifetime still blows me away. 35 or so years ago for god sake and still a concert I will cherish forever.

    Man, I hate that I just now found this video. This is awesome!! Sammy and Van Halen were my two favorite bands when they joined forces. I had listened to Sammy from the Montrose album through VOA. Saw his live concert on MTV in I think 83. The guy was incredible live. Then when Dave left Van Halen everyone wondered what would happen. The day I heard they hired Sammy I told my mom I was going to that show even if I had to walk( I was 14 at the time). Well I went to the show here in Birmingham. It was one of the early shows on the tour and was everything I expected. A couple of years later I was in a music store and saw the VHS Live Without a Net and bought it immediately! Actually still have that very copy. Thanks for putting this on here and reliving the greatest rock band ever and without a doubt the greatest and most innovative guitar player to live. The energy, sound , fun, craziness, and absolute professional show they put on was AMAZING!!

    This is my favorite music video of any that I own and Van Halen will remain my favorite band of all time. Yes, I am partial to Sammy Hagar era. I could watch this live without a net every day of my life. The bond Eddie and Sammy had is so evident in this concert. The jumping around and the camaraderie between the band members. Eddie was at his prime and not only with his guitar playing but over at that piano keyboards. People tend to forget that he was an accomplished pianist. I've never seen such a outpouring of love for any rock star or any star ever in my lifetime. I was a teenager when Elvis died so it didn't affect me. Billboards throughout the country and in Germany and the Netherlands and other countries. News everywhere and not just music news. I have to say I cried my eyes out for three or four days straight. I knew this was coming because he was very sick all these years but still a shock. My favorite guitarist of all time and I feel the greatest. However, some really great news that he and Sammy had been in touch over several months by text and had made amends. There's also some talk about music that is at 5150 that was never completed and Alex and Wolfie are going to start to go through the tapes. So you know we might get some new Van Halen music after all. Great guy and that grin those dimples. He is forever missed.🙏🎸🎶🤟

    (HUGE FUCKIN SMILE) Bruh, you had me DYING with proud laughter when you STOPPED the video after the guitar solo in "Summer Nights" and said "No, No... we're going BACK!!!".
    I was on my knees howling at the screen on my phone and saying "TEACH THEM MY BROTHER, TEACH THEM"!!! I've been a Van Halen fan for over 41 years now and your use of the words "feel", "groove", "harmonies", etc. are most of the reasons why! Without a doubt it's easy to see that you TOTALLY get "it" so I have to send you my most sincere and heartfelt condolences on the loss you are feeling with the passing of EVH. I used to be a professional drummer and Alex is my number one rock drumming God, so the pain many people are feeling over the loss of Eddie, I'm going to feel all over AGAIN when the day unfortunately comes for Alex.

    I'm 56 years old. In the city I grew up in we had an epic Rock radio station that in February of 1978; started hyping the release of this new band "from Norway" or some shit like that who did not speak English but they had this guitar player that is possibly better than Jimi. For two weeks they promo'd it with the most popular DJs they had bragging that they have been lucky enough to hear three songs from the album and just did not have the words. By the time the release date came everyone was home from school (I was a 14 yr old Freshman) and ready to go. The radio had timed it so it was after most HS was out, but before the parents got home... THE MAGIC HOUR! I went over to my neighbors house. He was 19 and already graduated. He was what we now call a Nerd/Audiophile. He had a bitchin' stereo. The needle dropped on Runnin' with the Devil and I was so pumped. Fuck Me! That kicked Boston's ass! Then as you all know what comes next. Nothing could have prepared me for Eruption. At the end of 1 minute and 42 seconds, my life was changed forever. Incredibly, my need to hear it again vastly surpassed my 14 yr old desire for pussy. Todays kids with the internet will never understand the massive, crushing forced of low tech anticipation. I went on to see Van Halen 11 Times between 1979 and 2015, always with Diamond Dave at the wheel. This is the first time I've seen this video. I have been an anti-Van Hagar dumbass for all these years. I loved Sammy before as a solo act. But never listened to more than 3-4 Van Hagar songs. I realize now that I missed out on some killer music. I just have to mentally block out Sammy's voice, and I can now enjoy some fantastic "new to me" EVH compositions/playing. Thanks Michael for doing this; you really opened my eyes when I am all vulnerable, and crying' and shit! I can't wait for your promised follow-up, I'm sure it will be epic. And as usual, I'll only understand 10%-20% of your technical analysis. I still love that brainiac content you put out bud! RIP EVH 1955-2020.

    Michael, this was so fun to see, yet somber. I was right there with you having a few beers watching the King of Ten Fingers and Six Strings. I’ve watched it a couple of times already, and it’s good to watch with a fellow guitarist, and get an informed reaction.
    You’re an excellent teacher, and I look forward to all of your videos.

    The last guitarist to truly change the shape of guitar playing. Legend isnt enough to define him.

    • @brianwalton6283
      @brianwalton6283 4 роки тому +1

      His influence is unquestionable, but people like The Edge arguably came after and had a more far reaching influence due to the fact it doesn't take the same level of commitment that EVH's style does.

    • @brianwalton2602
      @brianwalton2602 4 роки тому +1

      @Kevin Prima You apparently live in an 80s time capsule. Far more guitarists currently play "like" the edge than EVH. The guitar effect kayden sound and style he pioneered was in swing from the 90s and has exploded in the 2000s. The EVH influence was huge in the 80s and died off rather quickly after 1991, "the year punk broke". I'm not really even a U2 fan but just speaking of what I've seen culturally and musically. Millions of guitarists learn a U2 song and cop the style, only a fraction of guitar players get the chops to try to mimic EVH.

    • @brianwalton6283
      @brianwalton6283 4 роки тому +1

      @shane h He was the primary influence for some of the worst bands in popular music history, I'll give you that. However you have guitarists like the Edge that was huge across the world for decades (80s, 90s, 2000, 2010), The thread started as the last guitarist to change the shape of guitar playing and that flat out isn't true...EVH being the singular most inspirational guitarist to get others guitarists to play can't be proven. I'd actually argue that any focus on his influence on those mostly terrible bands tends to tarnish his legacy as a pioneer and one of the most recognizable guitar players in history.

    • @TheDude044
      @TheDude044 4 роки тому +2

      @@brianwalton6283 Why can't you just let people have their judgements instead of giving your condescending opinions? The man died, let people say what they want to say. Also, EVH has contributed more to guitar and music in general than The Edge ever has or ever will. That's not a debatable point, its an undeniable fact and the fact that anyone has to explain this to you is ridiculous. The Floyd Rose system would not have been pushed to the forefront without Eddie, and you also wouldn't have super strats (Which are both industry standards if you're playing metal/rock music today). And Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Zakk Wylde, Slash and many other popular guitar players have cited Eddie as an inspiration of theirs. Are you also saying that they are terrible artists as well? Or are you going to cherry pick what you think are objectively bad bands? Just shut up man, I'm tired of seeing people shit on Eddie because they just don't like his music, and im not even a huge VH fan to begin with. Name me one guitar player that has done anything innovate thats on the same level of Eddie in the last 40 years, I'd be glad to see your objective opinions on that as well.

    • @brianwalton2602
      @brianwalton2602 4 роки тому +1

      @@TheDude044 Typical hypocritical response, "let other people have their opinions but not yours." The Floyd Rose system was pushed to the front in the 80s, then lost its poplularity. The effects business on the other hand which the Edge is a notible pioneer of, has exploded. I find EVH inspirational, that isn't the point. It is statements such as he was the last person to change the shape of guitar playing or he inspired more people to pick up the guitar than anyone else in history are highly debatable. Being inspirational and being the reason one started playing guitar in the first place are two very different things. Vai, Satch, Wylde, and Slash don't say he is the reason they picked up the guitar. They are like me where they saw what he was doing and thought, that is inspirational. If you don't think the Edge's effects rack and switching system that is based around MAJOR changes for guitar parts isn't as innovative as what EVH did, I can't help you. Tapping wasn't invented by Eddie and Effects switching systems wasn't invented by the Edge. However they both took the concept to a whole different level and brought it to a main stream audience. And you have far more multi-effects units or pedal board switching systems sold and used than you do guitars that use the Floyd Rose system. Michael Hedges also pioneered a style that was innovative. So has Phil Keaggy with his live looping though he never saw mainstream popularity from it, he was an innovator. And I can't site Holdsworth, because he predates EVH.

    I was the only person who rented this at our little video store in 7th grade. When the owner of the store sold the tape for $6 I scraped it together and wore it out watching it. The tape broke because I kept rewinding after the mean streets part of the solo to try to wrap my head around it. The owner fixed the tape for me. My parents bought me an electric guitar for Christmas and Best of Both Worlds was the first song I learned. RIP EVH
