This is one of my favorite arias and I have completely fallen in love with this interpretation! It has all of the melodrama and observance to articulation that makes it Verdian but Lisette makes it completely her own and soars through those heroic passages with such ease! Excellent on her!

In Italian, it's just a translation, and doesn't quite match the music that was composed for the particular rhythm of the French. You prefer the Italian version because it's the one we've heard most often.

Merci, Lisette ... so awesome ... I was listening to Beverly Sills sing this aria- decades ago - which resulted in an obsession with coloratura which gradually expanded across several composers ... but I was a lyric with no coloratura skills at all .... I so desperately wanted to sing coloratura ... but I had nothing ... nothing for Handel... nothing for Verdi .. nothing for the Bell Song or the Doll Song or the Jewel Song ... nothing for Juliet ... nothing for the Queen of the Night ... and then you know what happened ... after decades of longing to sing coloratura ... suddenly I could sing them all ... I was suddenly a coloratura ... and then youtube recommended to me an interview with Joan Sutherland and Marilyn Horne where they both sat there telling us that if you don't have coloratura by your 20's, you'll never get it ... no way, that will never happen ...

They were both wrong ... two world famous operatic sopranos and they were both wrong ...
I then looked back on my life and wondered why I was suddenly able to sing all the coloratura I wanted.
Certainly it was a mental block - but why was I able to burst through it - what happened?
I realized I had just gone through a horrendous trauma in my life, perpetrated by some nefarious creatures that pose as humans - and I never once wanted revenge - I never once became hateful - I realized my natural inclinations had no evil - I realized I was a good and decent person - and then something inside me decided I was worthy of my desire to break free of the chains that held my mind captive ... then suddenly I was singing Juliet and Rosina and the Doll Song and the Bell Song and the Jewel Song ... and Verdi and Vivaldi ... which I had also felt - for decades - that I was not good enough for... and then I added O luce di quest'anima ... which I had assumed - for decades - that I would never ever be good enough to sing.
How wonderful music is.
Mi piace la Sua esecuzione, ma credo che Lei abbia la capacita' e l'intelligenza di renderla non solamente un pezzo di bravura (aggiungiamo lo spericolato Mi alla fine?) , ma un'aria d'opera importante, giocando con le mille sfumature che queste note possono offrire, non cantando sempre a voce piena (Lei ci riuscirebbe eccome), facendo riferimento alla malinconia della Principessa Elena. Qualcuno, insegnando; disse : "Acquisisci le note, l'aria e poi gioca con esse altrimenti la cosa diventa sempre uguale" Ecco , Lei ha l'intelligenza per poterlo fare (modulando i trilli ad esempio, giocando con mezzevoci). Credo si divertirebbe anche Lei, grazie per non essere una soprano ignorante, Le sono davvero grato anche del fatto che lei non disattiva i commenti sulle arie che pubblica sul Suo canale UA-cam. Mi scuso per scrivere in Italiano, ma lo sono e certe cose si dicono meglio. Grazie ancora dello spazio e Buon Lavoro. Giorgio Croci.
C'est très bien chanté ,même si pour ma part je le préfère en Italien .Et par ailleurs ,pourquoi ne pas chanter le contre mi bémol dans la cadence final comme Callas et Sutherland ? Bien qu'il ne soit pas écrit ,cela rajoute du panache à cet air déjà si difficile .En plus Lisette n'aurait aucun problème pour le faire .

@@robert111k strange comment. Why is she singling then the high-e flat in Traviata and Lucia which are not written in the score or add plenty of high notes in other roles? Here the alternative high ending is a high e natural, not a e flat, and wondeful Lisette Oropesa said in interviews that she was not comfortable singing that high.
C’est un contre mi naturel pas bemol, et je crois qu’elle a dit qu’elle n’était pas à l’aise au-dela du mi bémol. Cela n’enlève rien au fait que sa performance est sublime.
