America was a slave economy no different than Rome and the cradle of democracy Athens, only a hell of a lot bigger and plugged into the global economy of the time, and without continual wars of Rome and the cradle of democracy Athens engaged in to replenish their supply of slaves..... And, then there is Sparta.....
