I can't figure out how Austria-Hungary always seems to grow a massive fleet in every campaign I've played. In my latest one (1910 Britain, current year 1931), AH has *54* battleships and over 200 ships overall. My Royal Navy has 48 ships, 20 of which are DDs.
They build mostly terrible ships that are cheap as cheap can be so that they can keep up with other nations. If you engaged them you’d win handily, I think. You could engage all 54 BBs and still win because they cannot be nearly as powerful as yours. AH gets its power from looking scary with ship numbers-a Soviet strategy, really.
They are a massively wealthy country when controlled by the AI, which is the other reason. As non-player nations, the BE and A-H are the richest, so if you played Italy or the German Empire, you will notice the massive fleets around you

Frithjof may be just need better ammo type in AP. Also in recent patch I found Coincidence RF better than Stereo for some reason. May be because definition of long range become irrelevant with long barrel as it becomes short range instead.
Yes, base accuracy with long barrels is best, especially when using radar. Stereo is only good in pre-radar ships with standard barrel length to plus 10. The reason is, I suspect, that barrel length adds to base accuracy, and once it passes a certain point the additional accuracy from coincidence pushes accuracy up more than stereo does, since stereo is a smaller percentage overall and base accuracy can get surprisingly high. It's also possible that barrel length affects the definition of close and long range, thus making plus 20 even more effective with coincidence.
Sometimes it really is ridiculous how the hit rate seems to be calculated. Also I think the 1.08.6 patch introduced some formation steering bugs that I hadn't seen before.
I wonder how much different these battles would be if you could tell 2 of your main turrets to target a ship, and 2 other turrets to target another, instead of just focusing all mains or all secondaries on a single target.
While acknowledging that the Big F's accuracy was something less than desired, could the more-or-less small totals of the main guns have anything to do with a reload rate similar to the rate of tectonic drift?
Me think, the Italian buy made in the USA torpedoes? 😎 Plus you need those crazy torpedoes when those ship just keep hanging on, Just like in the real days? 😜
I believe, that the effectines of the Big Guns doctrine ended with the 16.9 inch guns. While the guns are big,the rest of the technology is not capable of supporting the guns. Therefore the lack of fire output and accuracy significantly contribute to the loss of the final damage output. Therefore the docktrin should be to have bigger guns than the enemy, but not the biggest guns. Of course that is not the idea, but still
Noticed the British tech level now shows as "Very Advanced" so ahead of you. Could potentially make for some more even battles after the Austrians have been taken down a peg.

It Sucks that the worst part of the game about massive naval engagements is the engagement themselves. it always seems to devolve into some type of unrecognizable Mess 15 minutes into a battle.
Personally I would prefer to see you play at normal speed and then speed things up in post production and overlay commentary then. I’m suspicious that a lot of your formation mayhem is down to loss of situational awareness when you follow a specific ship/div for too long at 5xspeed and don’t micro the others. I remember you doing some of that in the wargame campaigns versus the AI, but it disappeared in your ranked battles at normal speed.
My friend, while I can appreciate that torpedoes are not the best weapon in the world right now, WHY, when you have an entire destroyer division on the flank of such a large fleet, didn't you just fire off a massive volley of torps? Even if they didn't get many kills, they would have had at least some effect, and you wouldn't have weapons on the deck that you are wasting. Just an idea.
