Epiglottitis causes severe inflammation and swelling of the upper airway. The risk of airway compromise is the highest here. "Drooliing" is a sign of impending airway compromise. In the presence of strong suspicion of epiglottitis and impending airway compromise; performing an oral exam may cause irritation of the upper airway --> leading to sudden airway compromise and death. they probably gave you a different option that an LPN can do but a UAP can’t do, so they wanted you to recognize that in that situation you wouldn’t delegate the “easier” task to the LPN

LPNs cannot do IV placement unless they have a separate certification. Otherwise, it is not within their scope of practice with a bare LPN license. It used to be that LVNs can do push meds. But that is no longer the case.
As per Maslow’s hierarchy, physiological needs take priority over emotional needs. The logic is that physiological needs such as oxygen, water, food, sleep are essential for the very existence - a person may get extremely sick or die if those are not met.
