I enjoy the podcast guys, but I can’t agree on a few things you’re saying in this one. Hg‘s car was not good at the start of the race, and if you listen to his scanner and his conversations with Bruce, they were trying to make big changes to get the thing to not be so loose on corner entry and corner exit. They made one change and it wasn’t enough, so they had to go again, and then SPG said they need to do some extra track bar adjustments, to get it working. By the time they got it going properly it was the last stage again, and the good pit strategy and the fuel saving by SVG meant that he was around the top 10. If you were watching the laptops like I was on the scoring panel, he was quicker than guys ahead of him in the top 10 so I have every confidence he would’ve finished within the top 10 in that race if you hadn’t been taken out. That’s not someone who struggling, that’s someone who’s adapted in pretty quickly and to get taken out by a mistake from someone else two weeks in a row is pretty disappointing. it also gives ammunition to people to say that he’s struggling when he’s not. Considering you never been to the place the fact he was even closer to the top 10 is pretty damn good in my opinion.
I rarely agree with these guys and 90 percent of the stuff they say. Rarely fact check and too deeply seeded in there roots that murican drivers are the only good ones
I’m sorry but this isn’t accurate and this is exactly what I’m talking about he was still 3 tenths slower than AJ on lap average at the end of the race and AJ was on older tires.
We love that you enjoy the show but we are going to call things like we see them.
He was not a top 10 car and that’s just a fact. He did struggle and that’s okay. You are setting yourself for disappointment on ovals if you’re going to look at things this way man. You are entitled to your take for sure and we like SVG . Our goal is to show how SVG adjusts over time and that means looking at all the data realistically. This is just my opinion but it feels like you want this transition to go quicker than it’s going to go. He would have been a 30th place car in the cup race. These things take time. We are Allmendinger fans who lived through AJ literally DNQing at races. When we say struggling we don’t mean SVG is struggling for himself but compared to what the top guys were running he wasn’t close and he shouldn’t be. It takes time. I appreciate your passion and welcome it. We don’t always have to agree we enjoy debates when they are kept respectful but this is going to take SVG time. There’s nothing wrong with running top 15 in your first year. He’s going to struggle to get top 20s even top 25s next year in cup regardless if he’s in a Trackhouse or Kaulig car.
And that’s the kind of attitude that we roll our eyes at. We fact check plenty. Perhaps it’s you who needs to fact check considering one of us is Canadians. I support the non typical NASCAR driver coming into the sport. AJ, Carpenter, Villeneuve, Ambrose, SVG all guys we support, We just believe in realistic expectations. Also don’t make this about what it reads on your birth certificate and if you are going to call us out for not fact checking feel free to provide some examples instead of just spewing vague nonsense.
@@user-ov7pc4xq4y some one doesn’t like when people talk facts
@@KauligNation
You are missing the point and relating to " facts " like a reporter chasing promotion , and ignoring the relative and more important facts.
I have never been to Pocono and never drive an Xfinity race car ......so correct me if i am wrong, but it appears that these cars are more difficult to drive than the Cup cars, they are weird ..... they float right when the driver wants to go left or vice versa.
Pocono is a very difficult track to master and learn.
SVG is still learning what he wants from the car, yet early in the race he is telling his pit crew what changes he needed re sway bars etc.
Seems SVG got those changes pretty right.
So he was a full second off Almendingers early pace......he was also driving safely and keeping pace with a much slower pack than the pack Almendinger was racing with .
When SVG, while still learning the track and driving safely , he was only 3/10's off Almendingers relative pace, or was that average pace ?
A big improvement.
More importently, SVG was now running with a faster pack than earlier, and staying with them.
When torpedoed from behind, SVG was right there with the cars in front of him, almost in their boots ( trunks ).
The car in 11th spot, the experienced hot shot who took him out, was not keeping up !!!!
He came from a long way back and just rammed SVG.
No attempt to miss him......because he couldnt keep up, maybe ?
He had plenty of time and track to avoid the contact, but made no attempt to do so.
While their is a very real possibility that SVG might have NOT been able to stay in 10th position, there is also the fact that he was keeping up with the cars in 8th and 9th......had improved lap time by 4/10ths, and was maybe ready to forget learning, driving safe, and maybe going for position.
Fact......SVG was NOT flying backwards down the order.
With faster cars around him, he was faster while still driving carefully......not trying to be a hero like the incompetent driver who took him out.
Know you're not a true fan of SVG, but hey that's alright Shawn each to his own. Can't do much when some cowboy rams you and spins you out! He reckoned he had good tires and good speed att, so who knows what may have been. Mayer should've had a drive through, so few laps to run...Scott McLaughlin last week new Iowa Speedway lap record, not to shabby for an ex Supercar driver!!
3 years in and Scotty Mac wins on an oval!! The one difference between them is Scotty is in a Penske car, Shane has worked his way into a top team before and if he keeps improving he'll do it again.
“True fans” is such a terrible term and something we scoff at across our other channels. That being said no I’ve only known SVG for a year so I don’t have the knowledge about him as a person or driver that some of you have. What i do have is 25 years of following NASCAR very closely. This is NASCAR you aren’t getting a drive through for wrecking someone.
Scotty Mac is great
@@TVH6669Scotty Mac in NASCAR would be hella fun
@@LegacyOfWesteros hell yeah!
Agree with not expecting too much from SVG on ovals but as long as he keeps improving during race each race to call it a win. His team did a mega job this weekend and really made some good calls. Not all of us SVG fans are totally thinking he will win everything - I like how you brought some realism too it. I he has finished 10th I would have celebrated it like a win! If he makes cup next year I expect a year much the same as this one as he learns the adjustment talk etc. I picture top 15 at the end of next season as a realistic goal. He should be top 10 or better the year after if in good equipment though as the man is a true Motorsport nerd, loves racing and always striving to be learning. That may be part of why he left Aussie
I would love to see him make the playoffs next year which would guarantee him a top 16 finish. He only has to win once to get locked in. A lot can go wrong but I would bet on him snagging a cup win and being there which makes him worth the gamble in cup
Finishing top 15 would mean he wins a race next year (We are assuming Full time Cup) While he certainly can win on a RC I think it is less likely than it seems. Winning Races at the cup level is HARD. Everything has to go perfect. I really think a realistic goal is Top 20 in points and truthfully that might be very hard to accomplish. Kyle Busch, Bubba Wallace and Chase Briscoe are all sitting between 17-20 in points.
I can't emphasize enough the gap between Cup and Xfinity is gigantic. But one win and he's right there.
What would you say your expectations are for SVG when he goes cup racing in terms of just on ovals?
@@LegacyOfWesteros I think we need to see the schedule first and then if Trackhouse are getting this 3rd charter…
Just something about SVG moving forward.
To date he is racing ovals to learn.
Making laps to learn is more important than pushing and wrecking .
But come the playoffs, when it comes down to it, the learning classes have finished .
It’s final exams time.
And SVG can throw caution to the wind and finally just go for it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more out of him than you think .
Knowing how he races and having watched years of his racing, if there is a title up for grabs ? He will be going for it .
good points!
The Margin for error is so small in the playoffs it doesn’t take much to get yourself out of the playoffs. I hope they find a way to get him some more playoff points before then.
What are your expectations for him in Cup on ovals? I wish he had gotten more oval starts this year in cup.
Watkins Glen is very similar to Phillip Island in Australia. SVG will win there.
Marcus had a good record there.
I don’t believe he will. I certainly wouldn’t be upset if he did. I think he’s got a decent chance in Xfinity pending on how AJ runs and how many Hendrick cars are in the field. In the cup race I don’t like his chances at all.
He was very, very good there in Xfinity and snagged a couple of cup wins too. Him and AJ had one helluva battle to the finish the one year.
@@KauligNation Watch him win at Watkins Glen. Maybe his best win yet in the States. He'll put on a show there. Just watch
@@KauligNation I agree it’s unlikely one driver wins the majority of all road courses in a season (Xfinity) . Having said that he deserves to go into any road course as a favourite. Let’s be clear he’s absolutely dominated AJ to date (qualifying and race) on circuits and equipment AJ has had far vastly more experience. SVG has driven Watkins Glen before I believe and did some laps on the Roval prior to Chicago race last year.
Fun Fact: My wife sent SVG a text a number of years back. In it she said that Shane reminded her of Senna. And she knew Senna personally. And she knows a shitload more about racing on all levels than I ever will. Including the absolute minutest of things that separate the best from the rest.
I appreciate the views expressed by Shawn and Ryan as most of us know little to nothing about NASCAR. We are learning too and Shawn is giving us room to pause and reflect based on his experience and our lack of it.
Sure there were some Kiwi and Aussies fans who wild eyed and blatantly predicted all sorts of winning nonsense.
But there are a lot of people who are SVG fans because they know what they are looking at. Pure and simple. A true mongrel racer with sump oil for blood.
I for one can't wait for him to surprise...and to my surprise I'm becoming a Nascar fan.
Go figure...
First off the is incredible insight and I thank you for the kind and intelligent things you said. Thank you for sharing that story as well 🙏
We definitely aren’t here trying to crap on anyone we want SVG to succeed. Both of our favourite drivers is Allmendinger and he isn’t your traditional NASCAR driver which is why we like SVG as well. I’m thrilled your enjoy NASCAR so far.
@@KauligNation Hey Shawn...I really enjoy your and Ryans insights. Has a grass roots real-deal feel to it. I'm just thrilled and excited that SVG has turned up in Nascar because (1) it exposes me to a venue I would never have even considered looking at and (2) I can't wait to see what he can do with another form of racing to learn...which IMO is precisely what he needed. Something to sink his teeth into.
And I think a lotta SVG fans see it that way also.
I love the fact you're not blowing wind up Shane's ass you are calling it as you see it.
Respect.
All that we-who know SVG a bit better are saying is this...watch this space ...because as he learns and explodes out the gate it's gonna be a fun ride.
So it's a balance thing. Which way are the scales gonna tip...The "reality" of the learning curve he faces-balanced against the innate ability he possesses.
It's a fascinating puzzle.
Some of us think he's gonna tip the scales against the odds...
😀
@@johnobrien6869 Amen to that. They’ll see… the Giz ain’t no joke. He’s 1 of 1.
Great result for AJ. Shame about the svg crash. Id like to think he would have held 10th.
He deserved better than what he got that’s for sure
What did you think of the race in general?
@@KauligNation I enjoyed it. I’m still learning. So it’s all still good. I feel if Kaulig can get top tens at Pocono it has got to be a good day
I love Pocono on iRacing it's awesome lol
I was terrible lol
@@KauligNation new to it?
I half think the #1 car turned SVG on purpose?
Maybe a little delayed payback from Portland lap 1….
I dunno, seemed sketchy to me
It certainly looked like the spin was intentional
It seemed intentional to me? Do you think SVG goes for payback?
@@LegacyOfWesteros They're trying to say that that was payback from Lap 1 in Portland LOL Go watch Meyer in the first lap in Portland. Absolute amateur he was going into turn 1. Meyer is to blame in Portland & Pocono
My initial reaction was 100% it was purposeful. SVG is a true mongrel racer with sump oil in his veins, which is why I have been a fan of him since I first saw him race. He lives and breathes racing. When the other top Supercar drivers were looking to lay on a beach somewhere Shane was looking for something to race.
He's done the tough yards including being vilified by many Aussie fans ( I'm Aussie) for making some decisions that were purely in his best professional interest. He's basically a shy guy and doesn't like the limelight or media commitments. He is not comfortable in that role. The American media questions are so far superior to the nonsense crap he was being asked here in Australia that I'm sure that is easing the media burden for him. That and the fact he seems genuinely respected and appreciated in America.
If SVG believes or knows being turned was deliberate he may just let it ride as a payback event. But make no mistake, when push comes to shove this is not the guy you want to fuck with. As he continues to find his feet you will start to see his real racing colours. He's just learning at the moment.
Yet a lot of us seem pretty sure he is going to surprise you guys when he takes of his "L" plates and and presses the "GO" button in his head. And it's gonna happen quicker than some people think.
@@johnobrien6869 Couldn’t agree more. Hit the nail on the head! These Americans have no idea. He’s no pushover nor is he just anybody behind the wheel of a race car. He’s that guy. Lives & Breathes racing. Can’t wait till he’s settled in to his new surroundings. He’s going to be a handful for anyone. He’s the perfect guy to represent us Down Under in NASCAR. He can take it (as he’s shown in the last 2 weeks) and can definitely give it just as hard.
Because he’s smiling a lot recently in America, they must think he’s some pushover hey. But boy are they in for a surprise. He doesn’t get bullied. He is the bully. Just can’t wait till he finds his groove in this game. He will end up being the Greatest International driver to ever come over to NASCAR. Mark my words. Future HOF in NASCAR if he chooses to stay long enough.
Although I do wish to see him do some Endurance racing Le Mans 24hr or have a crack at Indycar. NASCAR is not bad for now.
I agree with you Ryan Xfinity has probably been a better watch than Cup. Kaulig cars were looking decent, not great but not bad.
Xfinity looked a lot better than cup
Shawn, I think you misunderstand the SVG fan base. We are aware of where he is at and understand the process. We’re in for the long haul.
Oh I think some of you are but we’ve already seen some comments where people think he’s going to win 8-10 races a year and that’s not happening.
@@KauligNation there will always be some, I’d say that’s a tiny minority though.
Kaulig as a whole are seeming to look better and faster in the 2nd half of the season no doubt, hopefully good results and more wins are on the way for all drivers
Yeah there have been some positive signs in Xfinity but they are still a noticeable step behind JGR and RCR
Do you think they have enough speed for AJ & SVG to get out of the round of 12?
Watch him obliterate your entire roster at Watkins Glen. Xfinity & Cup. Given he has a good car. He's smashing everybody at the Glen. Not a single driver on your entire roster that is of his caliber. Respectfully. SVG is World Class. He's a wheeler for real lad. You're in for a treat at the Glen mate. Witness some proper racin lad
Well it could happen but I don’t think he will win in CUP The Glen is an easier road course which means the guys with better equipment have less of a gap to make up and gives guys in Hendrick and JGR cars an advantage.
@@KauligNation All he needs is a capable ride. He’ll do the rest.
SVG got taken out twice in one race
Yup. Restarts are hell. The first one was complete bs though
