Ending a 3 year project is nothing to go lightly on. I knew that if I were to do something big for the end of this year, it would have to literally be beyond me and my potential and this medley was just that. This medley was begun a week and a day before it was released. I made this during the same week as my last year of college finals and during hell weeks for numerous other projects rendering me very little possible time to work on it. Still the time restraint gave me One day for arranging, one day for drum programming, one day for doing all of the mixing and mastering and one day to edit this beast of a video. This was because recording all of the audio took 4 days of straight recording to finish. Things didn't go to plan, namely I wish I had had more time to practice with the green screen and make sure all the shots would work with it and I wish I had more time to mix and master.
Why would I do that, you may ask. Why would I give myself a week to produce a 17 minute medley with 38 songs and also incorporate techniques like green screening I've never even practiced for video before? Because if there's anything I've tried to do in these past 4 years of being on UA-cam and not just with video game covers, it's push myself to my absolute potential. What you're watching is literally the best I can do given a week to put a video together and I'm not sure I can ever top this in that amount of time. Hence why I will be stopping weekly cover thus far. I'll be touching up on that in the update video coming soon.
That out of the way, I had a ridiculously fun time making this. The covers in the style I was doing them started to drain on me and I had to do something different. I've been planning something like this since the very beginning of my UA-cam videos as I was greatly inspired by the Mario Paint video Evolution of Video Gaming, not to mention people like Fredde Gredde who put countless songs in one video and still made it enjoyable regardless of the length. I hope this video does everything I hoped it would for you and really take you on a journey through the amazing short life video gaming has had since 1972.
These past 4 years have been a journey for me and this was the best way to repay you guys in my eyes. Because of your support, I have had opportunities to do things I couldn't have ever dreamed of and even when I was worried this video wouldn't get done, or spending countless minutes I didn't have nailing a riff, I knew that this video would be my greatest thank you possible to the worlds most amazing fan base.
There are no words that can possibly express my gratitude so I'll leave it just as I left this video.
Thank you for playing. I'll see you guys sooner than you think. :)

FamilyJules Hello, Love your covers :)
Im always so happy listening to your covers.
What tuning are you in for hyrule field?
Because you didn't include DOOM?
I love this list and listen to it often but I always thought some of the songs were odd choices. The 1997 entry in particular is a bit perplexing. I mean, Final Fantasy 7, Symphony of the Night, Age of Empires, Dungeon Keeper, Total Annihilation. All had kick ass sound tracks and all came out in 1997. But you chose Golden Eye which is just a movie theme song. LoL ok then? :P
At any rate. The new list is just as good and is a welcome addition.
Excuse me, sir? Where is my fire emblem? A very integral part of video game history almost as old as mario bros should be here.
@@raphialfehr8593 hey! I'm gonna play some Fire Emblem but there's just a ton of them. Where's the best place to start?
I don't think people know or appreciate how much time, effort, and talent went into this.
as a musician myself I know how much practice goes into making music-- usually a few months for just one full song, but this is a mashup where memorization was key because he wasn't looking at sheet music-- this probably could've taken half a year to a year to make and I can appreciate every minute this man has put into it. And as a game developer in college, I would recommend this guy for any boss fight cover-- any day.
You know it's not live, right?
Even amateur, some does !
Dude, the man can even play an ocarina lol, this is even well mixed, should make a gaming music album, take my money, in the name of nostalgia! :D
Ash Scott
It`s well played, and well mixed, mixing all these very different songs after first doing a metal cover of them is NOT that easy. Besides, he`s using transitions, meaning the order was planned, so it might as well be live ;)
Awesome job man! The fact that you pulled this off in a week during college finals...wow.
OMG! Smooth! fast, think something clever and cool to say.... ah.. uh.. am... Hi. :B
SMOOTH I LOVE YOU MAN
Smooth, I swear.
You're one of the most active musicians on UA-cam!
It's like I see a comment of yours in many of the videos I watched xD
Yeah Smooth do a thing like this too ☆_☆
Oh god so much awesome in one place
All of these comments are just
"WHERES ______ ????????!!!!!"
This is genuinely amazing.
exactly it says in the description he had only one week for a week this is outstanding and there is just too many medleys to do in one vid so ppl have to be content with what he put in cuz there has been hundreds upon hundreds of great medleys im games
Agreed!
What I'm surprised at is that he put Medal of Honor in but not Castle Wolfenstein or Ultima.
ikr and the tetris one was badass i fuckin loved it
Where the fuck is Knack?!
12:16 his face just says: "you're gonna love this next seemless transition..."
Let's be fair, this could be 4 hours long and still wouldn't include every awesome game there's been. Picking one game a year, especially for the mid-90s to early-00s is a hard ask, so many good games came out then. Seriously though, great video and great talent :)
Thank you for having common sense. Seriously I want to punch everyone in the face who commented "Where is X?"
Mswordx23 where is Y?
Ok I'll leave
Loved the ocarina for Zelda ocarina of time
Considering Halo pretty much defined multiplayer it's kinda ridicules he didn't include a single Halo game especially sense it has multiple award winning sound tracks.
i can only say, why did he pick donkey kong country 2 over doom a pioneer of the entire fps genre. Donkey Kong Country 2 is a good game, but is it really more important than doom? a game that already has a metal soundtrack
I like how the beginning is all powerful and ocarina hits and i start crying
Dude tell me about it....he did it so well.
Just the excellence in contrast, though. Like, holy shit. Went from sick ass guitar riffs all day to that ocarina and acoustic and just.... HOLY SHET.
Kevin Elliott I loved the sudden contrast. Like videogames have always had really upbeat and fast music, even for the not-so-fast-paced games. And then Ocarina game in with this really powerful slow song. Amazing!
Anyone else think that the Tetris bit could actually slap as a full length song?
Somebody else did that some time ago. I think os was called "the complete history of the Soviet union arranged over the melody of tetris" or something like that. Haven't looked for years.
It's a Russian folk song called Korobeniki.

@@DarkAJ89 good to know I'm not the only one. I'm really bad with lyrics but I know this by heart xD
Do you mean like this? ua-cam.com/video/sv9QhGhJyas/v-deo.html
The Zelda theme actually sounds like that's the way its supposed to be played.
Facts
I mean, more or less that's how it sounds in Hyrule Warriors.
August Burns Red made a full cover of it. If you haven't heard it I'd recommend checking it out.
@@guitgodd I thought the same
Description is fixed with correct songs and time stamps! There are a lot of comments as to games they wish they saw and I love it but I chose very carefully. Let me put it this way, I put in a lot of classics, but I've covered a lot of Chrono Trigger, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy and did medleys for Super Metroid, Banjo ect., but I haven't yet hit up some of my favorite games like Fallout or Super Hexagon. We all had different video games growing up and I love hearing about all yours! I'm sorry if you were displeased with my choices but hope you still enjoy the medley! :)
You forgot a song from The Legend of Call of Battlecraft IV: Infinite. Sheesh. Slacker.
Hey FamilyJules, I think that you should play Tecmo World Wrestling. It would be awesome :)
The transition between Gun Fight and Super Metroid seemed a just a *tiny* bit off (at least to me), but the rest of the mix was seamless. Really, really awesome job, especially since you were given only a week to make the video. ^_^
But what about the GTA?
gNetkamiko It must have definitely sounded weird, considering he didn't do Super Metroid.
so that was the best thing ever! :D
True, but your Killer Instinct cover comes pretty close ;)
You sir......hi
Oh yeah \m/
Just discovering this video in 2019. And it's one of the greatest musical medleys I've ever heard. Dude, you are awesome!!
Same listening to it right now and man I'm blown away
Same here.
Same here. It's terrific!
Meanwhile I remember the day it was uploaded. I feel old just thinking about that...
meh pure nintendo shit, exist a lot of more games, and seriuslly nothing from FF?? wtf
Almost six years later and this is still a legend of a video.. thank you for the time and effort you put into this. It's most certainly a masterpiece and should go down in UA-cam history as a great
I still come back to enjoy it. I just wish this was on Spotify or something like that.
@@unofficial_slash4541 He explained why it isn't one time; you have to get the rights to every single song separately, and each time the song is played you pay the owners. Given the number of songs you lose money each time it's played.

Does anyone realize that what he just did in insurmountable? It took dedication and a huge amount of work. Every game that he included was extremely influential no matter what, and its only one a year. Also, he is actively trying to not include games that already have a metal soundtrack or main theme because he wants people to hear a different take on it than just rehashing the same thing you already hear. Mad respects to this man for making this legendary video.
Many of these already have a metal version, but that doesn't make his video unoriginal
wrong. some were metal before his remix. like dkc's selection.
and it obviously wasn't insurmountable because you watched the video. he definitely surmounted it.

People who say Nintendo is bad: If you don't like something, that doesn't make it bad. Unless it's something that fails at what it tries to achieve, it cannot be considered bad based on opinion.
People who defend Nintendo with their Great-swords: Just because a game makes an a great impact on you on an emotional level, it doesn't make it an objectively good game. Just because a company has released games with consistent quality doesn't mean that they aren't susceptible to failures, because they are.
I prefer splatoon over any CoD. Not to mention I have every Nintendo console (so what I'm a Nintendo fanboy) and when I say this, most people say to sell them and buy a real console. Oh, a real console like a playstation? You mean the ones that wouldn't have happened without Nintendo after they teamed with Sony to make a disc system? (I'm going too far now).
I'm not an FPS player myself, but when I do, I prefer things like TF2. I love how it can mix action and humor, giving all of the characters and classes differing personalities, letting you customize them to your liking.
+Yellow PikPik All consoles suck.
+TheSnelly101 Every console has hits and misses...anyone who calls nintendo faultless simply hasn't played some of the real nightmare bad games (Superman 64 anyone?) I haven't been a part of the console wars since back in the mid-late 90's when the first playstation was on the rise, went solely PC and never looked back...that being said though it's generally about what games you're into.
Generally you'll find certain systems tend to stand out with certain genre's in any given era...look at the SNES/Genesis era, if you were an RPG player you were better off buying an SNES than a Genesis, doesn't mean there aren't great RPG's on Genesis but they just came out more consistently and with more consistently high quality on the SNES. On the flip side, if you were into sports games then the exact opposite was true, doesn't mean there weren't good football or baseball games on the SNES at all, but they just generally tended to be more common on the Genesis. Whichever era you're talking about it's really about asking yourself "well, what is it I like to play?" and then shopping for the console accordingly.
Like I said though, I went PC only some years back and have never looked back, all I wind up losing is a couple licensed exclusive games and in return the games I do have play better, look and sound better and overall have a more comfortable control scheme to me since I've gotten so used to using a keyboard...and 95% of everything winds up with a PC port these days anyway
+TheSnelly101 Nintendo is just fine at what it does. What it does is make brightly coloured kiddy-friendly games.
Fine if you like that sort of thing... but frankly rather annoying if you really don't.
Dude, after playing all that glorious metal, when he plays the ocarina of time, just touched my heart.

That Gangplank Galleon into Snakey Chantey was quite possibly the best thing in this track.
If this doesn't make you nostalgic, you aren't even a videogames. But even for the people who aren't and still have ears, this is amazing.

Honestly, I know I'm late to the party here, but you did a great job! There are so many great games that have come and gone in the last 30 years to cover them all would probably require a 48 hour long video.
It's really a special thing when you can make an arrangement so epic that it legit gives people goosebumps. Some of these songs don't normally do that, but some of the covers here like the Mario Galaxy and Skyrim ones were just utterly breathtaking
Dude, this is just amazing!

To everyone who thinks a certain great/important/classic/influential/whatever game should have been on the list, I have a challenge. Make your own list of games that should have been featured in this video. For fun, I'll play along with you.
So let's start by taking a highly acclaimed game that changed the way we think about console shooters: Halo. Halo came out in 2001, the same year that also saw the release of Grand Theft Auto 3, the game that basically created the sandbox genre. So even with me ignoring classics like Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill 2 and Baldur's Gate 2, we still have a minimum of 2 games for a single year. *Now repeat this process for every single year of gaming's history.* The list would get stupidly long, and creating a video for it would be madness.
So FamilyJules7X did the only logical thing, and picked the games that mattered to *him*. He evidently grew up on Nintendo consoles, so he plays a lot of Nintendo tunes. He dabbled a bit in PC gaming, so we see Battlefield and Civilization. And he loves the Zelda series, so he included a lot of music from that. Just from watching this video, you can get a feel of him as a gamer, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
+Theminimanx at first I thought he was doing the classics, and most highly acclaimed games. I expected to see metal gear, God of war, and other titles that didn't appear, as well as some that I expected (such as skyrim) however after watching his video it occurred to me that this really was his gaming experience, and especially when I saw braid come up It seemed like such an odd game to have on the list. I completely agree with you, after watching the video, that it was really about his own personal experience with gaming, that's why it's a tribute, not just to the history of gaming, but rather HIS history of gaming :)
You can also tell what kinds of games he like from this as well xD
15:21 I'm not crying, you're crying!

Bruhhh all these themes brings back soo many memories man thank you for this 👌👌
After so many years, still a great work!
That Mortal Kombat part though
TheGamerOfWar117 so taken from the movie and not the game
TheGamerOfWar117 it was actually in the Sega CD version as well as the ads for the game.
This is absolutely amazing! Thank you for making this - You did an outstanding job
7:20 I thought I was the only one that held onto their Goldeneye watch from the late 90's with the health and armor bars on them....
A Random Nobody I still have mine lol
This is childhood amped!!! 10/10 man how am i just now finding this!!!???
Quake 2, Doom, MechAssault etc all deserve a spot :)
for Doom he would just be playing Master Of Puppets.
This was a MASTERPIECE!!!! VERY well done my man!!!!!!!
Goldeneye, Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2, and Skyrim are my favorites in this compilation!
Unironically Thnx for spoiler , bc i was literally watching for Skyrim xd
been looking for a mass effect comment! Literally one of the most underrated franchises!
Why can't I hold all those feels?? The damn nostalgia hit me hard!
it hit me so hard i cried...
This brings me and probably a lot of other people straight from early child hood to adult life. Reminds me of a lifetime of sitting on my ass, enjoying some of the best stories ever told.
The metallization of Tetris is my favorite
13:43 onwards is simply amazing. Great job!
I need a full version of that Starfox tribute at @5:18 , that is crazy good!
fallout 3 sounded so doom metal-esque and that made me so happy
No Doom
No Duke Nukem
No Halo 2
No Earthbound
No Wolfenstein
No Metroid / Prime
No Mario Kart
No MEGAMAN
And the list goes on
still a cool project
+TheTeeWorldsfreak Also only one mention for Sega and no mention of the entire 32 bit generation... But go on. Keep listing yet more Nintendo things he could have added to his massive Nintendo list.
SotiCoto
nintendo was a big part of a 90´s kids childhood, so there is nothing wrong about it
It may astound and amaze you to realise that there were non-Nintendo games in the 90s. Lots of them. Seriously.
SotiCoto I know, but many familys only had enough money for one kind of console.
So, you were either a sega, nintendo or PC kid.
Sure, there were lots of developers back then.
TheTeeWorldsfreak I scrounged up money for the better part of a year to afford a second hand Sega Megadrive back in the day. But I have it on good authority that most other people of equivalent age I knew weren't nearly as fucking impoverished as I was.
This guy even made playing the Ocarina look metal af
