  • Take a ride along on my camera while I shoot the 2020 Parker 425. I typically shoot boat racing more frequently than off road racing photography, but when River Daves Place offered me the job shooting the Parker 425 off road race, I was more than happy to spend a weekend out in the beautiful Mohave Desert.
This year, Best In The Desert split the race up into 2 days. The smaller, lighter powered classes raced on Friday and the larger, higher-horsepowered trucks and buggies raced on Saturday.
I haven't got to shoot this race in a few years so it was nice to get back out to Parker, Arizona, take in the scenery, and enjoy some great off road racing.
Big thanks to Indestructible Shoes for getting me through the desert safely and comfortably.

Great question, thanks! Since I’m shooting mostly fast action, I typically shoot on Shutter Priority (“Time Value” on Canon) so I’m always sure I’ll capture the action, I like to shoot at around 1000th/sec to stop action. This usually forces my lens to widest aperture (F4 to 5.6, in the case of my 100-400 zoom for outdoor action, I typically set to ISO 320-400 on my 1Dx.
