      We are still away at the moment but the wildfire situation on neighbouring Maui sounds very serious.

    Great video as always. What I like about your videos is that you talk about the flora and fauna, not the latest rab sleeping bag. I e camped up that way a couple of times. Great location although it can catch the wind…..

      Thanks for that. It makes me happy when my interests come across and liked by viewers. Don't get me wrong, I like nice gear but at the same it's not a big deal either. It's all about the place with me and the wildlife, stories and history woven in. Apologies if that sounds a bit pretentious! 🤔🙂.
      We are okay here on Hawaii, it is the neighbouring island of Maui that is experiencing the wildfires. The situation sounds very serious there. 🙁

    Me and my partner have recently began our wildcamping journey.. I've really enjoyed your videos Chris, as you wild camp in a lot of places that we love to go.. Marsden Moor, Blackstone Edge, Black Hill etc.. But bloody hell, you don't half tackle some weather on your camps!! 😆 Your adventures and knowledge of the moors have been a good reference point for us. Enjoy your upcoming holidays mate and all the best. 👍

    Had a lovely camp at Abby Brook few weeks ago now, went up from kingtree upto Margery Hill that way, camped down by the river next day walked on and came back along Howden Res lovely walk.. and better weather than you had too, hope Hawaii doesn’t get too hot for you 🔥

      How do Phil. Yep brilliant is Abbey Brook area. I've been nearby a few times but never visited the cliffs. All okay here in Hawaii but the neighbouring island of Maui is being ravaged by wildfires. 🙁

    Aup Chris , can’t beat a bit of tent time. Reminds me of my last camp in the peaks in September last year. Alport castles on a lovely “sunny “ autumn day. Rained that much, I had to set up tent about 13.00 and didn’t get out of it till 11.00 next day. But I loved every minute 😂😂

      How do Anthony. Aye it was hard going at times but it had been arranged ages in advance so we just thought sod it!
      Hawaii was great (currently responding at Heathrow.....we have a six hour wait for our plane to Manchester! 😭).

    It certainly looked miserable weather for your walk Chris, but you both seemed to be brisk walkers. Can't have been ideal under your tent either. I had similar lens problems with my camera on a recent walk. I do enjoy sharing your experiences in wild camping but from the comfort of home. Sorry to read about the tick attachment afterwards, which I hope got treated. Hope holidays were great for you all.

      It was hard going at times Shanita but I was fine in the tent. I managed to get the tick out okay but did keep an eye on the bite spot for any signs of Lyme Disease. I was fine as it turned out. Bye for now, Chris

    Jeesh, awful weather. I cancelled two camps recently because the forecast was bad. I know Ive the gear to cope, but just couldnt bring myself to submit to the ordeal. Great video, once again, thank you.

    Aah, the great British summer in July Chris - never fails to impress. A bit of a challenge this one - well it's a day and a night but still you got a soaking. A lovely nature bath literally I would say. Along with a lumpy pitch - perfect! Well, we got some views in - loved what I did see. Great landscape from what I could tell. Enjoy your holiday - see you back out in more agreeable weather. Mark

      Horrendous weather Mark and a stark contrast to the drought conditions we had up here in May and June. As for the holiday, things are pretty bad on Maui, a neighbouring island, with over 50 dead in the wildfires. Thankfully, where we are is out of they way.

    Oh no! Watch the news on Hawaii. Hopefully it still works out for you. Bad timing! On your very wet walk - I've done too many of those, to the point I'd never set out in that weather. If it happens when I'm out then I'll manage. Did a really wet cold foggy trip with teenagers once; you've never seen a brick of cheddar cheese disappear so quickly! Like rabid wolves.

      Hello Karen. Thankfully we are all okay here. The fires are on Maui (we are on Oahu) and it looks very serious there. I typically won't leave the door in weather like that either, but me and Dave had planned so far ahead we decided to just go for it. 🙂

    You said near the beginning, "It's raining a bit now .... but it's supposed to get worse." That's a good description of the whole summer after June. I've had many a foul day like you had, but one advantage of being retired is that you can pick your days around the weather as far as walking is concerned. Hope your holiday went well.

    Fair play to you Chris for getting out in the current conditions. Went out onto Mallerstang Edge and camped above Hangingstone Scar below Gregory’s Chapel after doing Lunds Fell to High Seat 3 weeks ago, long day but fabulous country, could see right over to Tan Hill, and Cross Fell, fantastic wild country! Managed to get lovely weather, a one day gap between Lows!

    Any camp is better than no camp so well done for getting out in that miserable weather and congratulation on getting your first Tick Chris, i am very proud of you...Good things come to those who wait hey.....i am 60 and been hiking all over the Peak since i was 12 years old and i still haven't had one which confirms that i must taste like shite. I have only ever had to remove ticks in the jungle in Belize in 1984 and i have been to 56 different countries so if i ever get one it will be getting framed. Conditions have been a right bummer all summer but at least the water levels have topped up and the only bonus is no carrying water up. Have a fantastic family holiday and good luck with your journey there and back.

      Having thought about it, it is my first Pennine tick! The worst tick place I've known is Arnside Knott. I had five on me once after a day photographing butterflies. Some folk freak out about them but they don't faze me really. I'm just vigilant re symptoms of Lyme Disease.
      Belize! Wow!....sounds brilliant. I'm not about ticks but a pal of mine returned from Costa Rica with a bot fly grub living in his leg 😬.

Under normal circumstances I doubt I'd've gone out in this but the trip had been arranged a good while so we just thought sod it. Glad I had the Scarp 👍. Hawaii is awesome, though they are having terrible wildfires on the nearby island of Maui. Sounds very serious. 🙁

      I'm certainly familiar with "effing idiot". I've heard of "pie can" but that one's not a local one to me. We also have "Herbert", "haybag", "Joe Egg", "numbhead"....etc, etc. 😄. All okay here Paul, the fires are on another island. It sounds very serious. 🙁

      How do Robin. Yes, what a transformation from May and June when the streams were dry on the moors. I was getting a bit twitchy re the pitch as my wet weather resilience was wearing very thin at that point!

    Hard core that our kid! Have a look at my Swarth Fell camp before you go on yer hols, you are asked a geology question. Do bring us back a wheelbarrow full of rock samples from Hawaii 😂

      How do UP. The geology here is interesting enough but there isn't much variety of rock, it's nearly all basalt. I'm a bit behind with catching up with folk I subscribe to but will definitely get round to checking your Swarth Fell one out. 🙂

      @@ChrisJB Aye Foulstone. Did a job one year at back tor for a runner with a broken leg. Snow everywhere and dark as it was the early hours. Turned into a spectacular winter’s morning. Shame it was a rescue and not a wild camp.

      The lammergeier. It's a large species of vulture. One turned up from overseas in the summer of 2020 and loitered in the Dark Peak for a few weeks. It was an impressive sight and drew in loads of birders.

      Hello Craig. Luckily we aren't on Maui where the fires are but it sounds bad. Last I heard, over 30 have died. If the forecast is grim I do wear Sealskins with the Altra but if it is particularly wet like this one, my feet still end up wet.

    just come across this video of yours, I used to use the wriggly tin shelter as a lunch stop while patrolling as a Ranger out of Langsett, Broomhead cabin is reputed to have cut crystal glasses for the shooting parties and my wife and a few friends " bodied" close by one night 9 years ago for the local MRT . thelangsetttwanderer

      @@ChrisJB it certainly does - think half a dozen hippies high on magic mushrooms going round all the springs in the area blessing them, along come the Team plus search dog and handler who was really and genuinely upset when the dog ate " the magic mushrooms" in reality coconut mushrooms but she wasn't to know that ! It is still spoken of in hushed tones by older team members who were there. Other exercises involving us included me as a husband who wouldn't leave his wife for his fancy woman , so she left me for dead at Wrigleys cabin. Don't get me on about the sprout filled Ferrero Rocher
