The video was filmed on my estate! The shot where the camera travels along the balcony and then into a door is my friends flat who lived down the balcony! We were at school when they shot and when we got home her mum told us a band had paid her a tenner to film the entrance to her doorway. I must admit at that time we were only about 12 years old and had no idea who they were but its nice to have this reminder!
I remember buying this single when it came out....,and fell in love with the band, they were the true shining beacon from the 1990's.....I didn't think much of the rest of music then, they represented a unique sound and visual element not seen since the post punk era....
I love Suede with all my heart and there will never be a group like this ever again. It makes you want to be in and Indie night club dancing your life away to Suede songs
The 80's was the first time music became all about synthesizers, machines, drum machines, anything electronic and so the 90's became a fight back, an attempt to retake the mainstream from electronic shit. It was a fantastic decade, one destroyed by clowns like Simon Cowell, mainstream music is pre-decided now, they make it, market it and manipulate kids in to voting for it. You have to look for good music now, which is not so bad if you know what you like but it's a fucking shame for the artists - rock bands used to make millions, now it's the manufactured fucking pop that makes millions and brilliant rock bands can spend a decade playing 300 gigs a year just to make a hundred grand.
fractalign Yes, it's nice to see someone who appreciate all grunge, Britpop and shoegaze, they all have their most admiring features, and that's why I like all three of them, although I had to admit britpop is my least favourite genre among the three, because of, drumroll please, fookin' Oasis, but I love Suede and Pulp.
The greatest guitarist of my generation. DogManStar is probably the most underrated album of all time, and he wrote everything on it apart from the lyrics and melodies.
Oh dear! I'm very nearly 40 years old and this brings back so many good memories. Think I was 16/17 when this was released in 1993, although I could be wrong (old age!) I must admit I was more into Grunge (Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney etc..) and industrial (ministry, NIN) but loved Suede anyway as they were one of the best new UK bands back then. Where the hell did the past 20 odd years go! Enjoy your youth while you can it goes quicker than you think!
There's a good chance that MOST people visiting this are sniffing 40, like me, and remember the '90's SO fondly. Well, they say the best music made was the music made when you were 16. 1991 then.
2terryh I'm not even close to that age, and I think that the best music was made way before I was born, or at least when I was little. Though when I was 16 here was also some pretty good music being made, it wasn't as good as the older kind (except 80's music which was pretty bad for the most part).
2terryh I couldn't even name a song that came out when I was 16 off the top of my head. I was in the single digits for most of the 90s, but it's still my favorite decade in music. The 70s is probably my second favorite, and I wasn't even born yet.
There's this Bowie documentary where a couple of people who were teens at the time Ziggy first appeared on TOTP talk about how utterly flabbergasted they were at the sight of it all. This video had a similar effect on me when I first saw it as a wee 11 year old. So different from everything else that was on MTV at the time, I just couldn't take my eyes off of this wailing, gorgeous creature. Man? Woman? Life-sized doll? Heck if I knew, but I was absolutely hypnotized by it.
Remember when this and the Album came out, blew everything else away, an updated visit to 70s Glam Rock Land! Video is so Cool it could Lick itself clean! Guitar solo half way through is from the gods!
this song captures the very essence of suburban life, boredom as you pass by old houses and smelly pubs...love their debut, it's been there for me when nobody else was, it's definitley the closest i'll ever get to love
Back in '93 when I used to come home for my army leave, it used to play on MTV very often - this video sure takes me back in time...thank you for the upload!
It's just wonderful. this magnificent group - how it combined the very english ways of guitar of the Smiths to a more glam rockish even punk outcome in their music. How they're raw and melodic, rough and sophisticated at the same time. What more u can ask from Rock group. It's brilliant - no other bands with such style. And sadly - there never will be. I'm just happy they're still around.
Muito bom, bem viajante!! MaravIlhoso Bowie!!!!, ele foi a fonte maravilhosa de muitas estrelas!! Suede é uma delas. Ele plantou muitas sementes no mundo!!!!. E temos artistas como esses!!.
suede were, and still are magnificent.this video and song is like punk, glam, sex, violence, attitude all rolled into one.23 years old, where did the time go?
JUST BRILLIANT !!! IMH-E-O what i like the most bout this video ( besides being so-but-so-but-so-but-so emo!!!!) is the fact that it is so raw and clean, made in some suburbian building that hides a cave made of velvet walls which are the silent temoins of decadence and sadism, the camera so free just in hand, the lights game is simple but delicious in this vid, all seems and feels so direct and clean , with no need of excess of pst-production, but at the same time with lots of references and allusions that are so brilliant and exquisite
Súper contento porque seguramente hoy por la noche escucharé de nuevo esta canción en la Ciudad de México. Extraño mucho los 90's. Hay tan poca creatividad hoy en día.
The first time ever that I wasn't influenced by anyone or any reviews in loving a band was when I saw this video the first time and went out immediately afterwards to a CD shop to buy their first album. Love at first sight and sound. First 3 albums (Suede - Dog Man Star - Sci-Fi Lullabies) are masterpieces compared to other bands back then.
Im 35 and I always have liked SUEDE!!! on the other hand, my friends and relatives didnt like them or never heard about them , Anyways, it is never late to start liking this band and sooo many others, Wish they meet up again and perform,,,, =)
oh 90's ... where art thou .... One of my favorites of the 90's ... along with Blur, Charlatans, the Stone Roses, Primal Scream, Jamiroquai, Black Crowes, Happy Mondays and Digable Planets ... and one hit wonders like Soup Dragons (Free), Stereos MCs(Conneted), Soho (Hippychick - with a great sample of Smith's - How soon is now? )and Dee Lite (Grove is on the heart) ... Although I still have love for 80's bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Smiths, New Order...but that is a comment for another video.
Man, you have a good story music, you know a lot, thats realy nice, i saw all the band names you say, and is cool :) Luciano Oliveira, tu és de onde??.... :))
***** Bowie relesed two studio albums in 1993, one in 1995, 1997 and 1999 and therefore was active at the time. Therefore he is still the ''Britpop Bowie'' There are many examples of retconning in music. Beatles coming from Mersyside as the county didn't even exist back then, the labelling of a number of bands from Salford as comning from Manchester, etc etc.
Bowie also released music during the 1980s when bands like Metallica and Anthrax became popular, does that make his music thrash metal? Of course not. Just because Bowie released music during the period when britpop was most popular doesn't make him a britpop musician - because he certainly wasn't.
I am new to this band even tho it seems they been around for ages ..but I'm also American and so really never had the chance to hear them...so my question is what's the best songs of theirs
Emanating style, presence and so damn good to listen to, such an uplifting track. Great song that stands out from a lot of the shite back then which we thought was great at the time.
"Animal Nitrate" Like his dad you know that he's had Animal nitrate in mind Oh in your council home he jumped on your bones now you're taking it time after time oh it turns you on, on, on, now he has gone oh what turns you on, on, on, now your animal's gone? 1993 - what a year , what a fucking band ! Suede forever
One of the greatest songs of the last 20 years. That vocal. That sexy fuzzy guitar...oh lordy.
Bernard Butler is the most criminally under rated Brit guitarist of the last 30 years. The Mick Ronson of his generation, hugely influential.
Always loved this song so much! Suede are genius. Them and Manic Street Preachers are among the most underrated rock bands, ever.
The nineties was truly an interesting time for music, I made no distinction between grunge, britpop or shoegaze bands, to me it was all good music !
EXACTLY!!! cheers to good music bro
The 80's was the first time music became all about synthesizers, machines, drum machines, anything electronic and so the 90's became a fight back, an attempt to retake the mainstream from electronic shit. Damn right!
90s was the last decade where the pop chart had a massive variety still, it's irrelevant now but plenty of great music elsewhere so all's good.
One of the best songs of the generation
The mood of 90s music is insane! Soooo addictive
References to The Shining in the carpet and the animal faces, so 90s!
Bernard is absolutely killing it in this song.
The greatest guitarist of my generation. DogManStar is probably the most underrated album of all time, and he wrote everything on it apart from the lyrics and melodies.
Never gets old. Love seeing Brett strutting his stuff like a modern day Byron.
I can't help but see his Bowie influence I think is great which he emulates perfectly in a very cool way .. Great band....
If you're into androgynous dudes then Brett back in the day is pretty much the holy grail.
Their debut and Dog Man Star are two of the most underrated classics of the 90's.
20yrs on - so frickin stylish I cant stand it anymore
Oh dear! I'm very nearly 40 years old and this brings back so many good memories. Think I was 16/17 when this was released in 1993, although I could be wrong (old age!) so true
Good comment...

I'm 15, condemned to be in this generation rather than earlier ones...yap. Wish I could've experienced those times...
2terryh most of us are over 40 lolololol :) xcx
chloe devereaux I hear you Chloe, had my *big* birthday last year but have never felt younger!
2terryh I'm not even close to that age, and I think that the best music was made way before I was born, or at least when I was little.

Best start of a song. Ever.
Brett and Suede. .showing the kids how it's done. ..was there in the 99s, btw, and still love it
90s..;)
Brett was one of my biggest crushes in the 90s.
Music Hall Of Fame - hands down.
There's this Bowie documentary where a couple of people who were teens at the time Ziggy first appeared on TOTP talk about how utterly flabbergasted they were at the sight of it all. This track is simply great, I had forgotten how great they were as a band. Thx for uploading this.
Remember when this and the Album came out, blew everything else away, an updated visit to 70s Glam Rock Land! Video is so Cool it could Lick itself clean!
Guitar solo half way through is from the gods!
no one and no record can ever come close to this.....brett anderson bernard butler ..aka perfection
Brett is so gorgeous and elegant looking in this. Classic look!!!
this song captures the very essence of suburban life, boredom as you pass by old houses and smelly pubs...love their debut, it's been there for me when nobody else was, it's definitley the closest i'll ever get to love
One of the greatest rock songs ever...or brit pop/alternative/modern rock or whatever u wanna call it!...pure dynamite!
Best singer and guitarist combo for that era
Great band with amazing songs
the delights of the chemical smile....
just brilliant.
Still think this man is the most beautiful man on the planet! my school girl crush!
Nah that award goes to Robert Plant
You should like Carl barat then I think they look very similar haha
Missy Lee oh my word, I was so in love with him, lol
Seem him lately?
Back in '93 when I used to come home for my army leave, it used to play on MTV very often - this video sure takes me back in time...thank you for the upload!
A young Brett Anderson! :)
Last decade with multiple top-tier rock genres
It's just wonderful.
this magnificent group - how it combined the very english ways of guitar of the Smiths
to a more glam rockish even punk outcome in their music.
How they're raw and melodic, rough and sophisticated at the same time.
What more u can ask from Rock group. It's brilliant - no other bands with such style.

Smash hits 93 on cassette (double). Stand out track obviously! Must have listened to it a dozen times on a 20 hour school coach trip to Austria!
Saudades dessa época, quando era um jovem sujo que ficava o dia inteiro na frente da MTV vendo e ouvindo essas obras primas!
Both video and song aged really well.
One of the best songs of the 90s!
best song ever! Brett, hot as hell
I remember watching this on Top of The Pops with my Dad thinking " They look soooo cool" and my Dad goes "What the hell does he look like!!??"

Best song of the 90's
actually quite a dark track in terms of subject matter
I just noticed, the carpet is the same as in the shining!
damn true
hotels, restaurants and animals... long negociation...
Don't forget the pig
Wow! Good call! Never noticed that.
You, m'lady have an eye for detail :)
still great after all these years... nostalgia :)
This man awakes in me..wild feelings😍
Suede's one of those bands I don't sing along to because I can't bear to have anything interrupting Brett's voice
Súper contento porque seguramente hoy por la noche escucharé de nuevo esta canción en la Ciudad de México. Extraño mucho los 90's. Hay tan poca creatividad hoy en día.

What about The Boo Radleys, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Mercury Rev, & Ride? They were top bands (alternative) too.
Man, you have a good story music, you know a lot, thats realy nice, i saw all the band names you say, and is cool :)
Luciano Oliveira, tu és de onde??.... :))
Oi Joao... Eu sou de Sao Paulo, Mas atualmente moro nos EUA, perto de Boston... e Voce?
Vincent Jones wow.... That is a lot of bands I have not heard of....will check them out!
João Ramos Oi Joao... Eu sou de Sao Paulo, Mas atualmente moro nos EUA, perto de Boston... e Voce?
Genuine music man even though the song came out in 1993 a year later was my last year at school so reminded of the start of having great times
Vastly underrated band
because you finally matured enough to be able to appreciate this brilliant band which you failed to recognize in your teens.
Still brilliant after all these years !
fav suede song
Brett is the Britpop Bowie
+Brandon Herndon hard toargue that
+Brandon Herndon What was just think. I wouldn't remember the other band that is heavily influence by the sound of, Bowie., Suede
+Brandon Herndon
1. Before Brit Pop genre
2. Bowie was British, born in London, therefore Bowie would be "Britpop Bowie".
*****
Bowie relesed two studio albums in 1993, one in 1995, 1997 and 1999 and therefore was active at the time. Therefore he is still the ''Britpop Bowie''

The first song and the first video from them I heard and saw. And it was love ☺
I met a girl couple of weeks ago.
After I asked her "Do you like Suede", she kissed me.
So much about that.
She thought you were referring to the fabric and she is just rather passionate about textiles
It wasn't a girl. it was a geezer with a girls haircut !
As a girl who loves suede even I'm going to stick my foot in here and go nah that didn't happen
+Winston Smith this came out in the 90s your stuck in 1984
+Mark H clever that
there will never be another Bowie.love this
AMAZING BRETT!!!!
the first proper band i loved, and still do saw them in the summer 15 years after the first time and were amazing
The best band of 90'...
I loved Brett's eyes
Suede, Oasis, Blur, James all truly great British bands in the 90's, the best decade for music. Where are any good bands now?
I'm not gay, but when I see Brett...
Suede is soooo underrated
Great guitar riff
I'm so excited about the basement cover help
Listen to the Jigawatts version, it's SO much better than Basement's rendition.
What an addictive chorus. Such a great song
totally twin peaks
me encanta sta cancion, suena tan glam!!!
Suede - Best Band in Britain.
90's 💗💗💗💗💗💗😘😘😘😘😘😘😘💗💗💗💗💗
Just three songs have made me
leave my body..I heard them in the radio..People are people, Light my fire and Animal Nitrate..
hot stuff.
当時BEAT UK を録画してこの曲の流れる数秒間を食い入るように見ていました。
いまはじめてフルバージョンを見ました。バーナードのリフとブレッドのボーカル。
本当に素晴らしかった。
suede truly were the last of the great british bands. nothing since them has been all that worth while.
This is Twin Peaks all over!
beautiful melody
Suede wern't Brit pop, they were just Suede. and nothing has ever come close!
Is that the carpet used for "The Shining"? Omg
I am new to this band even tho it seems they been around for ages ..but I'm also American and so really never had the chance to hear them...so my question is what's the best songs of theirs
Te iubesc man!!! M-am imbatat tare in seara asta, dar muzica eceva exceptionaklkL!!
Alexandru Crudu 8
the best song! hes handsome nice voice and the best hes british
I remember being about 8, walking around school singing this! ha ha
This song and video is so deep!
Emanating style, presence and so damn good to listen to, such an uplifting track.
Great song that stands out from a lot of the shite back then which we thought was great at the time.
17 years old, coming down from Exctasy with my boyfriend, 1993....sweet memories lol
This is so underrated wth
"Animal Nitrate"
Like his dad you know that he's had
Animal nitrate in mind
Oh in your council home he jumped on your bones
now you're taking it time after time
oh it turns you on, on, on, now he has gone
oh what turns you on, on, on, now your animal's gone?
Well he said he'd show you his bed
and the delights of his chemical smile
so in your broken home he broke all of your bones
now you're taking it time after time
oh it turns you on, on, on, now he has gone
oh what turns you on, on, on, now yor animal's gone?
what does it take to turn you on, on
now he has gone?
now you're over 21?
now your animal's gone?
animal, he was animal, an animal
*the chemical smile
Before I knew the lyrics I heard it as "lights of the panicking stars" which isn't too bad actually.
What is this song talking about? heroin? drugs in general?
paradox95 I think it's about drugs and abuse. Actually pretty sad song in that way.
@@noemiisland It's just about sex. Nitrate oxyde is a gas which naturally fills the human penis during erection.
The carpet is the same design as the hotel in the Kubrick movie 'The Shining'
Great band great song~☆
