Yeah. I actually had to wade out about 50 yards to get in the canoe. She got caught in the wind and couldn’t make it to shore. It was “unique” to say the least 😁.
The Wind Cimes 'playing' on the porch was a Nice ending to fun day of hiking for you. Swimming the river would have been tough...The Canoe option definitely the better Option! :) :)
Great day with lots of miles and a ferry across the river just in time to beat the thunderstorm. Whew! That looked scary for a bit--she was paddling hard to get to you with the river looking kind of choppy. Cool sign there about Benedict Arnold and his trek across the wilderness. Thanks for taking us along!
Regarding your attack near East Carry Pond, this is a reoccurring thing in this area for the last few years. I've heard other people say that it's a Goshawk. I used Bens 100% Deet. I sprayed it above and below the bill on my hay and directly on my ears and a little on my neck. That seemed to work for me. I expect you are within a day or two of being finished by now. I'm going to miss your entries. Thanks so much for your efforts in editing and posting them. As a former thru-hiker I got to relive my hike through you.
So glad you made it across before the storm was full on! Those ponds are so pretty!!! I would have loved to play in that water a bit!! They look so clear and pretty!! I’m getting so excited for you!!! Getting closer to Katadin 🥰🥰🥰
Guarding it's nest and youngsters. I understand about the 'battle' between using or not using Deet. My hat is a military 'boonie' hat - love having the netting off my ears. Since it has a 360 rim. Holds the netting off my face better. Nats have been bad this spring / summer. Prayers and hope you are enjoying the last days on the trail. Soon you'll be back down south. Enjoying your job and day dreaming of the hike. Maybe you'll just decide to turn around and head SOBO. LOL The canoe part looked fun also. Too bad the thunderstorm made you hurry.
I stayed at the Sterlin Inn also. Had wings and a cold beer at a local restaurant just North of Caratunk. I made the decision to hike to Monson and did it. I believe I forded 3 or 4 streams it was a 17 hr hike. My goal was to make it in one day. I always remember that day. Looking forward to see you finish! Highly anticipating your Summit video. I really hope you get a spot at the Birches. Keep pushing North Big T ~~~Maverick71~~~
Wow, that was close getting across the Kennebec. I'm glad you will able to get the lady with the canoe, and really glad that you were able to beat the storm. That bird was probably a Northern goshawk. They have been known to attack people if you get to close to the nest where their babies are. So it was just a little "motherly love", ha!
Glad you made it across the river and are still walking north! The rain had been so heavy up there lately. You’re probably almost to Katahdin by now. We’re still following you and praying for safety for all you hikers!
Thank you for sharing another day on the trail !! I had an ole red tail hawk swooping down on me 40 feet up a pine tree while deer huntin finally scared it off.. lol you're getting closer!! God bless you with strength, peace, and trail magic!! Keep on keepin on Big T!!
The Hawks are known to attack up in ME. There are signs about them in a few areas. Good to hear your toes are much better! Great 20.4 mile day. Glad you got over the Kennebec River ok.
He could not identify the creature below with that net over its face😂😂 Oh my those bugs in that one shot near your face wanting through that net. Nice that you were able to get across the river just prior to the coming storm. Real nice video today.
Glad you connected with someone who could ferry you across the Kennebec - looks like she had a little difficulty getting over to your side of the river. But all's well that ends well and you helped paddle back,(thanks - good of you to do that)🥾ahead of that approaching storm. Dry out, eat up and then - one foot in front of the other, once again. Be well, stay safe.🥾
Man, watching this day was fun. A keepsake memory of your Moms with her still protecting you is awesome. That’s officially called finishing Strong 💪🏻 after that day. Falcon wanted that little bit of orange cap and sounded like it was close to snatching it and being gone.😮
A falcon came after you? How much weight DID you loose? Seeing that woman paddle upstream after a rain redefined hard work for the day. Thank you for making this as always.
She got off trail just south of Rangley, near Bemis Mountain, about 60 miles south of this. After the scare with the SOS device malfunctioning & her gift shop schedule, her decision to get off-trail totally made sense. She says she'll finish in Sept.
Yay! You made it across! Thanks for sharing!
Great news on those toes....❤
Good day! Happy trails! 🥾
You are doing great Tommy!
Thank you
Wow! What a day. 20.4 miles. Happy you could take the ferry. Excited getting closer to Mama K! Thank you for sharing.
Sweet mama K
Well done , take care of those feet 🙏
That was a blessing in a way- You crossed your own way, same place, but definitely unique to you ✌🙏

Hmmm Goshawk! I will look that up. He tried to get my headnet. He doesn’t like all these bugs either 🤪
So glad you got a canoe across the river. Take good care of your feet and get some good rest.
Will do

We both were paddling HARD! Not looking forward to 95 degree heat and humidity but will be glad to be back at work. God is good!

Hopefully you’ll have a good day on Katadin! The end is near!
I was thinking in real time he would summit tomorrow. Just a guess.

I think the bird's just warning you of the 100 mile wilderness to come. It was probably screaming "go Back! go Back!" lol

Never had a hawk get that close in attack mode. Got my attention for sure.

Real nice video today.
Maybe he wanted the headnet for himself?
Spot on!

The falcon wanted to borrow your hairnet.

Too close.
Mother’s shower cap from the 50’s. 😂. Too much information. I loved it though.
Was there a white blaze in the bottom of her canoe?
Looked like a grest day for you. Thank you and God bless you.

Time to eat some donuts?
Anyone follow Taylor? Wondering if this section is where she had so many issues and decided to get off trail. Scary water. Good job on the miles T.

She will finish, I’m sure!
@@BigTOutdoorAdventures for sure she’s great!
