YESSS, so hyped for this series, making my game play so much more enjoyable. Thank you for your insane amount of hard work and obvious prep for all your vids!
Many people in my area plant corn and beans in the summer and wheat in the winter. Many get two yields on one field per year. So that would be right with true winter crops.
Growth - there are more growth stages than base game, so seasons "borrows" the first ready to harvest crop image as a growth stage. Just because the crop looks ready to harvest, check the map or other field info!!! However, this does mean you have adequate time to get those 3 stages of fertilization down - 1st either when your planting (with a planter that supports seeds & fertilizer), or immediately after planting before you see any growth. Of course you can put down "natural" fertilizer before you even plant, so there's that too. Just remember you can only put down 1 chemical per change in field state, so herbicide OR fertilizer, fertilizer OR manure. So that last point is important for grass, you get 1 free fertilizer stage from cutting grass, but then you only have 2 growth states before it's ready to harvest, so that means either 2 stages of fertilizer OR 1 fertilizer and 1 herbicide - taking the first option will eventually mean that your field is eventually overrun with weeds, taking the second means less than maximum yield. However there is a window just before winter, where you can put down a chemical, and then the grass resets to zero growth for winter, so there is then 2 further growth stages in spring where to can get full fertilization and herbicide - but it takes timing! Consequently with a grass operation you might want to consider a weeder, in order to spot weed any new weeds as soon as they appear. You will need to get out there once per season period (early, mid, late) to deal with weeds in place, but it doesn't take long as they're only growing in small patches. Weeds can be an issue, they will grow at any time except "ready to harvest" and "withered" (might want to check on this last one). I have seen weeds appear during harvest on sections of the field which I have already harvested - so they don't wait until midnight! - so no yield loss, but they're there. Also plowing, cultivating, planting, harvesting and mowing can destroy weeds, BUT they're still there and they will grow back quickly to 2nd stage (full) growth, so these actions are NOT a fix, and will eliminate the option to use a weeder. I have also noticed that weeds can grow back on grass fields immediately after mowing and these weed patches are also full growth - might be a bug, but it's definitely annoying considering the limited window of chemical application between mowing, and that you cannot weed full growth weeds.
The weed can definatly grow wierd and be hard to catch in time but luckily its rarely that big of a deal as they are only in small patches. In grass fields it can be annoying but in crop fields u generaly have more then enough time to get rid of the most of them before harvest.
@@Shiftry87 Leave it long enough (couple of season years) and it can become a noticeable issue. But there appears to be a bug with grass - weeds coming in at full growth were there were none after a cut. And eventually they just get completely out of hand - it's why I take full advantage of the grass death at winter to get an extra growth stage where chemicals can be added.
Playing on console I planted at the proper time and proper temperature in spring yet my crops never got to a mature enough state to harvest my wheat stayed at 83% growth for 4 straight days on a 3 day season cycle corn eventually grew but it was already the first day of winter when it grew which the moisture was to high to harvest I’m not sure of what to do I’ve looked through most of my mods and they’re all seasons ready was excited to play with seasons but seems like it’s bugged (playing on griffin Indiana with the south Sask geo)
Should I add seasons to existing save game or should I start a new save game? Any issues adding to existing save? Will seasons work along with precision farming?
You can add seasons at any time - BUT all fields will reset to "no growth", it should not affect any other field state. So if a field needs plowed then it still needs to be plowed, IIRC if there were crop growing then it resets to harvested (but I might be wrong and it resets to cultivated - I never add seasons half way through a game save). So in preparation, you should harvest all of your crops, sell or store as you desire. Put all of your Hay and Straw bales under cover. Sell all of your Grass bales (with seasons they have no value!). Fill your animal feed/water - seasons changes feed levels from 10 "days" to 2 days, meaning you have to care for your animals almost daily (but that's (probably) a later video) so get a head start on that. Then when you activate seasons it will be (Early) Spring Day 1, you will need to check the temps - below freezing you cannot work the fields, 0+ you can plow/cultivate, but might have to wait to plant crops. As a final note, if you want additional Grass fields, you could plant them before you turn on seasons, they should reset to grass-zero-growth state, but then they should get a head start over arable crops.
I’m still confused with the ground temp and the planting time if Its in the right time to start planting does it have to be a certain weather to plant or is it just the things you said right there in the end
When would be the best time to put on herbicide do you spray it and cultivate it in, spray after cultivating and before planting, or right after planting
Real world you would herbicide when the crop is well established - the theory is that an established crop is able to resist the herbicide, and technically the herbicide doesn't kill the weeds permanently, but because the crop is established new weed growth is stifled from lack of sunlight and other resources. If you put herbicide down earlier, then the weeds would be killed, but new growth of weeds would be competing with the crops on an even footing. While this isn't a thing in Farming Simulator, you can herbicide at any time, so the choice is yours.
I'm on loan oak on the xbox1. And my canola does not have a plant or harvest point? Even though the germination in 50° can I still plant it and grow if it has not shown up.. just like your cotton option?
Have you noticed germination being more likely to fail when you planted at soil moisture below 12%? In the seasons menu it's pointed out that it should be more likely to fail in very dry conditions but I didn't notice a huge difference yet...
I've typically noticed when temps are fluctuating. So if you plant wheat at under 41F then the seeds remain dormant. When temps hit 41F then germination triggers to occur at midnight that day. But if the temps drop back below 41F before that midnight, you can get patches which fail to germinate - possibly based upon random number vs crop (seed) frost resistance. Moisture is not something we have direct control over - so no irrigation or the like, we're really dependent upon rain.
I'm having trouble understanding the fertilizing stages in seasons with the precision farming dlc. It says that I have just one stage but the levels are perfect so it doesn't allow me to keep fertilizing. I hope it doesn't screw the yield
That can be dependent upon your selected Geo - the default Seasons Geo is "somewhere in southern England" - you might want to look for a more equatorial Geo some of which do support 2 harvests per year. While taking a more northern Geo will have more severe winters, shorter planting and shorter harvest windows.
Could you explain the %loss/increase from doing all the relative things, fertilizer states, how lime effects.. that sorta thing :) once again great vid
I believe consumables work the same as base game - but extra stage of fertilizer, so more bonus!! BUT there are more penalties - failure to germinate will result in patches of field with no crop, meaning no harvest, no income, and crop can fail in patches too, similar result. So the penalties are way more severe than base game where you only see penalty to yield for needing to plow or having weeds (these penalties still apply in seasons, but you can control them).
@@neilharbott8394 sweet thank you. Would still be cool to see FC add this to the series as then it would really be the most comprehensive collection of knowledge on seasons that i've found.

You have to be in the planting window and its ideal to have the crops required ground temperature as well

Precision farming should make fertilizer stages go away and you should just have to apply the correct amount of nitrogen
@@FarmerCop yeah, what i meant was that I only made one stage and it didn't let me put another one. It's a money saver as long as you take the time
