I always liked the Slugger. Its like the Wolverine, your main character isn't going to tool around in it, but it helps expand the idea of Joe being a complete military unit with not only front line "hero" vehicles like the H.A.V.O.C. and VAMP but support vehicles that fill a role those vehicles can't provide.
This was one of the few vehicles I never had as a kid and no one else I knew did either. I never wanted it either. The first one I ever got in person was the one I bought for my collection. I appreciate it more now that I did then.
glad kevin is safe. slugger and thunder are a great piece to the line up. they pair well with the wolverine for artillery capability. the color scheme is spot on for slugger and thunder. the drawback i have with slugger is that it had no footpegs and the sculpted back hatch didnt open for a loader or maintenance. overall, as you said a mid-tier vehicle and figure.
I just dug these out of a box new O-Ring and on the desk! It has always been one of my top favorites for the realistic military look to it. Footloose goes well running alongside of it!
I loved this vehicle! Your review was great! Batter, Batman, ROFLMBO! A swiveling turret would have knocked this vehicle over, lol. I used to be involved in scoring Navy Gunfire scoring for the 5" gun on Cruisers and Destroyers. We would close part of the ocean off Virginia Beach or Mayport FL and shoot the gun into a buoy field for scoring how accurate the ship can put rounds on target. We are talking about five to seven nautical miles. One time, the ship forgot to lower the gun from a flare shot, flares are lobbed with less powder. Needless to say, the round went way further out than the closed range...did not even show up as a faint acoustic event. Oopsy! I hope Kevin was not on the ocean looking for Pokemon that day.
While your review was pretty enthusiastic, I'm a little disappointed you didn't put them in the top tier. I think they're excellent. I'd put them both in the bottom top tier.
Nice howitzer ... :) In the Polish self defense elementary book guide says that all MG over 20 mm & 30 mm it's a cannons not MG ... They are under 20 like Browning M2 1919 is 12.7 * 50 mm (In our scale cm .) ...
I suspect that's how a lot of kids used it, and their appreciation for it depended on whether they viewed it as a tank that could stand in for the Mobat or Mauler.
I understand not having a pivoting canon- self propelled artillery or a tank destroyer. The MG on top really lacked imagination, and the ability to hold a couple more Joes would have been nice. I got this item for Christmas when I was in the 6th grade. LOVE the paint job. I used to blow it up with my Rattler- also received that Christmas.
Always thought the gun was too big for the vehicle, so I replaced all 3 of mine w/ the large mortar from the Bivouac set. Mine are crewed by Grand Slam, Thunder, & Long Range
That video was bang on!! I loved it as a kid. My friends and I used the stabilizer blade, to dig up land minds and booby traps. Great review....tsk,tsk poor Kevin, another Pokemon Go statistic.
Lack of rotation on this really holds it back for me, but it is still much nicer than the much later Patriot. Solid early piece of Joe hardware, and too bad it didn't get more attention in the comic.
Excellent review as always, since your production and writing is better do you plan on revisting some of your earlier video reviews for updates? Also it is nice that your reviews shares that some of these original vehicles aren't real-world vehicles. As a kid I just assumed they were because they looked so practical in my eyes, the original designers were really good.
Thank you! Yes, I am going to redo some of my old videos. Some of them really need to be updated. Even though the Slugger wasn't an exact copy of a real vehicle, it was still grounded in reality. I think the best vehicles were.
If there was an ammunition carrier for gi joe or a similar toy line, that would be great for the slugger to pull. After all, the slugger probably wouldn't have a lot of space for ammunition.
Yeah, that's true. Something like that would almost have to be sold as a sub-vehicle for something like the slugger. The small support vehicles, like the Bomb Disposal, were apparently not super popular. Maybe if it were packaged with the Mountain Howitzer or something.
"Realistic" is a generous word for this vehicle. It's clearly trying to be, but it makes one grievous error: it's proportions. That cannon is entirely too big for such a small vehicle. The weight of the gun, the force of the recoil, the size of the breach and firing mechanism, the room needed for ammunition storage and necessary crew all demand something far more substantial to accommodate them. Even with the brace in the rear, firing that huge gun would shatter this little armoured car, and there is no way Thunder could manage the whole operation himself. A gun half the size (and mounted on the centre line) or a vehicle twice the size would've been realistic. This is a little too kiddish, for my liking.
Very nice design and paint scheme this wouldve been a lot of fun to play with as a kid..Hail the 84 series..imagine the Slugger towing the S.L.A.M

That is true. It's too bad the comic book and the cartoon didn't find more uses for it.
I think a vehicle with this big a gun should have a bigger crew. But I love the camo.
The Slugger was the one that got away from me, never had it as a kid. Love this review, and HCC788, and Kevin! *explodes*
The slugger was always a vehicle in every one of my missions, loved it
Remember kids: be aware of your surroundings when playing Pokémon Go!
Lol
lol nice.
YOU ARE THE BEST, KEVIN!!
formbx257 I love your videos

I think the appreciation kids had for the Slugger depends on whether they saw it as a tank that could fight with, or stand in for, other Joe tanks.
One if not my favourite GI Joe vehicle! Missed getting it in the old days but thanks to ebay got one! Great memories!!!!
Thank you! Congrats on picking one up!
@HCC788 I have one too.
Glad I still have my mail away version.
This is a great vehicle. I never had it as a child but bought it as a adult collector and was very impressed.
Awesome! I'm glad you liked it.

Good point about foot pegs. if the stabilizer blade hadn't been on the back, they may have put a foot platform there.
I just dug these out of a box new O-Ring and on the desk! It has always been one of my top favorites for the realistic military look to it. Footloose goes well running alongside of it!
another great review, and cool cameo from kevin!!!
Thank you! Kevin is the coolest!

Great Review. I just completed mine about a month ago.
Thanks! Congrats on completing the Slugger!
I wonder if the name Slugger is an inside reference to the Louisville Slugger baseball bat since Thunder is from Louisville Kentucky.
While your review was pretty enthusiastic, I'm a little disappointed you didn't put them in the top tier. I think they're excellent. I'd put them both in the bottom top tier.
Another excellent review man! I love this vehicle. That was really cool to see formbx257 in this video!
Thank you! I was really thrilled to have him in the video.
Excellent review.
Was Thunder also sold on the pegs? I have my childhood Thunder, but have no memory of having the Slugger.

Interesting. I didn't know that.
Thats make sense. They use road wheels instead on tracks to provide high mobility shoot and scoot capability for a long ranged artillery vehicle.
excellent review my friend always enjoy the better vehicles thank you for sharing
Thank you! There are some (hopefully) excellent vehicles coming up in the future!
+HoodedCobraCommander788 looking forward to it
great review of an awesome vehicle and charecter
Thank you!
Kevin was hilarious! : ) Good review as allways!
Favorite vehicle in my collection.
I kind of liked this over the other tanks because it rolled. The MOBAT couldn't roll well without the batteries operating it, and then it was slow.
Excellent point.
All the way to Canada. Great review. I didn't have a Mobat or Mauller when I was a kid, do my Slugger filled that slot for me.
So not do.
I suspect that's how a lot of kids used it, and their appreciation for it depended on whether they viewed it as a tank that could stand in for the Mobat or Mauler.
With my Joe figures snapping lately, I feared the same watching Thunder's arms moving around.

Omg you shot Kevin! That had to be more than 35 miles unless that earthquake from yesterday moved us closer to Canada.
As I say, it's long range!
The only vehicle I got as a kid
Fun fact: according to the G.I. Joe series bible, Thunder was intended to be a couple with Cover Girl.
That video was bang on!! I loved it as a kid. My friends and I used the stabilizer blade, to dig up land minds and booby traps. Great review....tsk,tsk poor Kevin, another Pokemon Go statistic.
That's a good use of the blade! Maybe Pokemon Go should have a warning: beware of incoming shells.
HoodedCobraCommander788 Lol
Great video
Lack of rotation on this really holds it back for me, but it is still much nicer than the much later Patriot. Solid early piece of Joe hardware, and too bad it didn't get more attention in the comic.
Best ending yet!

Never had much use for camou...
The head on thunder looks kinda like vintage ripcord
It is very similar.
Poor Kevin!
I've got the dusty camel desert version
Great review! Poor Kevin lol
I'm glad he's alright
It would've benefited if it had an extra storage compartment, in my opinion. Regardless of that, I still like it.
Yeah, that would have been a nice addition. Maybe a feature like that would bump it into the top tier.
If there was an ammunition carrier for gi joe or a similar toy line, that would be great for the slugger to pull. After all, the slugger probably wouldn't have a lot of space for ammunition.

Does Thunder remind anybody else of young Jack Palance?
I was thinking Stacy Keach
i don't remember this one despite it appears to have been released during my Gi Joe window / =
The m112 is a type of c4 .
Any Joe or Cobra who listens to heavy metal is ok in my book.
can you do the 1988 hardball
I will be happy to review Hardball, but he's not quite ready yet. I promise I will get to him eventually.
This is the kinda vehicle I wish was around when I was a kid. I had the 90s crap. Everything was so dumb by then
I have one around my home somewhere sans driver. Also a maggot... again sans driver.
Got this for christmas in 1984. I loved it until my brother swiped and sold it to the neighbor kid in 87

Kevin😂😂😂
I
Needs a bigger machine gun then it would look really good
there is no reference
WHAT?
SPEAK UP!
