The greatest camera you can buy with infitnite money?????
That's it, right there. Dream camera.
Tbh for some people they just need good enough camera that inspire them to shoot than a stupidly expensive camera
Alexa Sigma, infinite format, 40k, 100 stops of DR, 1 million iso, made of vibranium
I had the red komodo first but now i have the Red V raptor . But the arri is a real beast !
No. With infinite money, I buy Arri itself and then I own the Alexa 65.
Actually, I’d buy IMAX. That’s the real answer.
Can you imagine buying this to shoot vertical tiktoks 😂
For tik toks right???
@@mattih we should do this just for fun one day 🤣
oh lord you know someone is gonna try that right?
there is a UA-cam channel that shoots vlogs on a RED camera. So why not. 😂
I was 1ST AC on a project once with a arri Alexa mini with Cooke lenses and we did shoot vertical for tiktok and insta haha it worked amazing;)
One of the coolest camera-related videos I've seen in a while! That DR is ridiculous on the Arri. Can't wait to see what you make with the Mini LF 💪
I haven’t been this excited in a long time!
@@mattihwell duh...
I was on set with a Arri LF last week with a set of Zeiss master primes(not mine)... Schneider 1/4... man it looked good on the smallHD cam monitor. A real privilege to shoot no doubt
@@dpixvid nothing like an Arri
This is a dream of mine to own but CONGRATS to you for making the choice on getting the camera!!! I'm proud of you Matti!
🙏🏻
Unless you are a working professional, rent one.
@@scottslotterbeck3796 thankfully, I'm a working professional! Yay!
@@scottslotterbeck3796the day rate is $2000-2500 in Australia. So if you’re a 1st or DP that rents it out then it’s a good investment. I have a few 1st AC and DP friends that own their Mini LF - a couple have paid it off
@@Aaron_Smith_OM Congrats! Seriously. There's little paid work in Sacramento.
Had a hands on with the 35mm a couple weeks back with arri and man the latitude really is something else. Night and day compared to the LF when u look at the false colour. Really looking forward to seeing the first films which are shot on these as I’m sure it’s gonna open up some amazing creative possibilities🤩
Yea it’s a wild camera!
great having you out on set! awesome bts of the day, and of course the camera. Excited for the next vid about the Mercs!
wow the short film example was compelling and shot beautifully. With no audio or full story context I was striked emotionally purely from visuals. That is proof that having a camera like this doesn't make you automatically a talented film maker without having a great story. Being able to convey the story where someone who can't hear whats going on can connect to it is what makes gear like this practical
I completly agree with Nick when he said "I like it so far but..." Had exactly the same feeling some years ago when I spent a whole lot on cameras. They are great tools but it´s hard to recoup the money along the way if you´re not a rental house with a ton of projects on the window. I mean most times with a single film or TV the gear kind of pays itself but then you´re forced to use the same equipment on every shoot afterwards beause It is what you own but not necessarily the best tool for the job. So in the last five years I´m leaning more on getting a good cheap all terrain camera (FX6, Ursa 12k, Red Komodo, Ronin 4D) something that is manageable financially and can be easy mantained and replaced in a couple of years when something better comes along and delivers great image quality for the price. I think ultimately is better to invest the money in front of the camera than on the camera itself. I prefer to spend those $150K on an actor that can get my picture or tv show distributed and sold to a major network, than on the gear itself. But hey!... Maybe I´m just a cheap old bastard.
There is truth in that you will probably will want to change it even if its fine. Especially when 6-7 years pass sincebits release due to how much bodues are improved
Only reason to get a camera like this is if you’re a DP that shoots a lot of commercials or like two features a year
All depends on the work you do, if you rent this out 3 months of a year its paid for itself within a year. So if your booking clients willing to pay the rentals fees its really a no-brainer.
@@GisowBros more like in three to five years. It's not that fast, You need a really Big project since there's too much competition un the rental bussiness.
The last project I did was 11weeks of shooting and we got a really big discount on cameras and lens rental.
The best tool for the job is ALWAYS the camera with the most dynamic range. Period. The camera closest to my eye sight is of highest value to me. Next would be mobility and versatility. Even the biggest cameras these days are mobile. What you invest in front of the camera (lenses) is far less important. Rent lenses based on the project. Zooms or primes. Spherical or anamorphic. Lightweight or heavy. Always rent in front of the sensor. Always buy the best sensor. You can’t watch a film and name the lenses they used without looking it up. But you damn well notice the dynamic range and image quality. I’ve never been hired for my lenses but I’ve been hired for Alexa. If you’re not using your camera to help you get work-I suggest you give it a try. It’s part of the job. Just my POV. Cheers. -Ty
Matti going out on the street with 100k camera, my brain: " Do some shoots on OneWheel " 😜😜😜😜😂😂😂
LOL
Matti, you are an absolute legend man. You’ve brought so much life, light, and joy into the UA-cam space and you will be leaving a void. Hopefully you’re coaching of other will help fill that void you leave, but you know it won’t be the same. See you on the creator camp!
'Saw awhile back an organization's hard-fought demo effort to 'break' and re-establish new projection standards. Followed immediately by Arri's demo from this camera... Couldn't help but imagine that the results broke the former presenters hearts. The specs in this case do not lie, and the layout is really well planned. It's really quite remarkable that this is attainable at all.
Fun video! The Atlas Mercury footage looks awesome-- Great to see the 36mm in action! We need a filmmakers monopoly game, Instead of Boardwalk & Park Place the blues are the Arri cameras :)
I like how it's rigged so simply, not a crazy amount of accessories and wires and stuff! 😂
Is this sarcasm cause that’s actually pretty simple 😂
it really does, I was a PA on a feature film with a crew over 100 people and I couldn't see the body anymore from all the rigging and cables 😂
Which is the norm in Hollywood.
Wow those skin tones were so good straight from the camera. So many years in and I can still barely get them right in post 😂 Amazing tech!!
great video, and I apreciate the content and your talent as youtuber, but I can't stand on sentences like, is the most cinematic footage I have ever seen straight from camera. I don't understand the term "cinematic" and the fact that the footage is coming from a camera used in nearly every film set, doesn't automaticly convert the footage in cinematic. Footage is cinematic (no matter the camera) when lighting, actors, atmosphere, etc all together invoque an emotion.
Not really, there are sitcoms that evoke emotions and no1 is trying to recreate that look or calls it cinematic. I do agree that saying this is the most cinematic image straight from camera is a load of garbage. When youtubers use the word cinematic they are just talking about the look of the image. In reality however cinematic means movie like which refers to all aspects and not just looks.
Can’t believe you cheaped out on your Arri, you should be shooting your videos on IMAX film
I’m a hackkkkk 😂
Damn, nice breakdown on Arri. Really makes you appreciate what makes them that much more crazy. Can really feel why Nik is so hype and enthusiastic about it.
Looks great. $140k is exceptionally high but if you can justify the ROI then go for it. I own a Helium 8k, Monstro, and Komodo and love the Red color science ❤
140K is nothing compared to what can be made on commercials.
for such price, one must be extremely frustrating if it doesn't turn on in a random morning... or refuse to operate normally.
arri looks very soft and clean
You should do more of this, informative videos
There needs to be a Guinness book record for most expensive vlog set up just based on this video. Also, I believe $140k CAD is more like $104k USD!
I drooled when I saw the Arri 🤤
It’s just so freaking nice haha
Why do I sense a deep feeling of buyer's remorse?
With the cheaper options out there nowadays that produce hardly distinguishable visual differences ...I mean...lol
Just preordered the 42 and 72 Atlas Mercury of that set
You’re gonna love ‘em!
great lenses!
That image is sooo beautiful. I might have to move some money around and the charity I work with will have to take a hit but will you take a personal check. Nice video Matti.
When you're going to review zvE1? I've been waiting for so long
I got to check it out 😊 will make a video soon
That camera with the Atlas Mercury is my DREAM!!!!!
Will go for the Red Komodo first cuz my money ain't that long LOL
It’s insane!
Yes! Rent one!
From him.
i feel like matti getting his own arri really opened the arri fanboy inside him. keep it up, I think it will open a lot of doors for you
This was a very unusual video that I have seen. Loved it. Thank you for showing us and giving us knowledge about this insaneeeely expensive camera and the BTS and everything I guess! Absolutely Loved It!
In the right hands - this is pure magic. Great episode.
I have one on order... and this video just made me that much more excited to take delivery of it!
Breathtaking machine !
Have you become an ARRI Ambassador?
No native ISO, 17 stops of DR... This is an explosive step forward for high-end cinema, and I love it
Matti goes to Hollywood, it was long time coming!
yeah, I'd be so intimidated with that camera...
Always love your videos hope to meet you one day 🎉
🙏🏻 😊
Man I'd sell a kidney just to see an ARRI in real life
i shoot most of my stuff on my fx3. I don't know man. even if I had that kind of money. I don't know if if I'd buy this if you could rent it for certain shoots. its a huge depreciating investment. definitely takes balls. I'm sweatin here just by watching this video :D
True but a lot of DPs I work with who own their own high end cameras charge a substantial rental fee on top of their day rate so they end up making loads more money a month and ends up being a great investment, especially if it’s an Arri camera because they wait years to release new kit so their products depreciate in value much slower
@@allyolivermedia7658 yeah that's true
Yeah, but can it vlog? How's the balance on a Gorilla Pod?
Good video.. best of luck with the new camera 🎥
🙏🏻
the clips from the short film makes me want to cry
That brought back a lot of memories! Thanks for this one 🤗
Isaac repping the OU hoodie!!
Also vo mixed a little hot Not that you need to know 😄
I think people really misunderstand the concept of buying cameras like this. I know a lot of people who own Alexa minis, LF, Venices and one or two who own 35s. You put the money down and within a few months you can have it completely paid off and then it’s straight profit. This guy’ll be getting over a thousand a day for bringing this on a job. Most camera owners also don’t keep their cameras on hand. They live in a rental house and they’ll have usually a 60/40 split on the rental fees.
you buy it, you pay the finance, the insurance and still want to make a profit. Unless you have it working 200 days a year like a rental house one would you have to up the price vs a rental house to get a return. Any production company will go with the rental house because they are.. cheaper, can bike you a spare if there is a failure, got a discount from arri in the first place (or even buy it on a cheap lease) Get a bulk discount on the insurance etc. Seems like a receipe to lose money. And then you get on a big film and someone wants you to shoot venice (clever or not) the the arri sits at home wating fro a break in. Seems like money down a hole?
Back in the day I got on a five week FS7 show. As an owner op I thgought this might pay for my fs7. Not a chance the prodco got 5 fs7 off a rental house with a huge discount and mine sat molding away. Honestly as a producer why would you hire from an owner operator unless it was super cheap - you have that 10 year relationship with the rental house remember ?
The 35 is a game changer, cant wait to use it.
With this camera you're
Not buying creativity
Not buying results
Not buying clients
Not buying more skills
... With this you're just buying expensive Technology.
and it's awesome
@@simarock yeah. Expensive awesome technology.
Nik is the man!
You should take a look at the Atchel 9x7
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't pros usually just rent cameras? Theres almost no need to outright purchase camera packages.
Flexing on the new Atlas lens though!!!!
4k 120, 17 stops of DR/12ish stops of latitude are the big ones, along with their legacy of color science.
Great now you could do a cinematic B roll of a swan
Amazing video!!!
Thanks Matti, this one was a lot of fun, not something we see every day.
Cool! Thanks for sharing it ✌️
I think the guy deeply misunderstood the whole "native iso" thing....
thumbnails, I thought you went for alexa 35 instead!!! Anyways, what are your weapon of choice in lenswise to pair with alexa?
ARRI primes
Linked in the description for Matti’s vlogging camera is now the Arri. Haha
*cries in ursa 6k*
The most cinematic.
Other things waste more time on set than issues with the camera. Love the camera and saying its 'just a tool 'is like saying a light saber is just a sword.
SPECTACULAR!!! WHOOOOO!
Anything u film on a dolly or tripod with that would be cinematic af😅 .. looks like #Imax film camera
This is a dream camera but thanks, I'm good with my Blackmagic pocket
@CaseyNeystat Bravo, however nail in the tree was harmful.
Dont forget to add insurance to it
you are insane!
can't wait to see more videos
tnx matti
Tomayto tomahto it’s ah-ree instead of air-ree
Can someone share the link to the short film & or the Dp website...etc
ALEXA MINI LF HAS A MORE CINEMATIC LOOK
I just got me a mini LF as well! Every minute I shoot with it I fall more in love with it. Bet you’re gonna love it!
You had me at "I just got..." I clicked, you happy
@@StoriesbyDAF Haha, guess that camera is a charmer!
I like arri but I Love Sony and Red camcorders
Camcorders? I think you mean cinema cameras.
This Arri makes the Sony look like a phone :D, there is no oversaturation, no loss of texture, everything looks ridiculously realistic.
i dont think so, gear matter of course but if someone has good ability then RED or SONY can easily beat ARRI. It depends on you, not camera. Mank (2020) win Best Achievement in Cinematography with RED Ranger Helium is an example.
lol
Naw, James proved this wrong with Avatar 2.
Spotted Storm 1000s #vaxis🥳🙌
funny that the guys from the Americas always come to counting tech fact when it comes to explain prices. In Europe noby would excplain his ARRI by tellung what kind sockets it offers
Congratulations 👏
Canon m1 with magic lantern and helios 44
Where I live in Florida I can’t tell you how many middle aged - old people have $100K cars - Teslas, Corvettes, G wagons, M series .. in the grand scheme $100K isn’t an absurd amount of money, especially if you rent it out. I’ll pick up an Arri one day if my money is right, just because .. and honestly I think it’ll bring me way more joy than a $100K car .. I’ll just drive a Subaru or something
Where I live (Germany) the car is the most valuable thing/possession people own (excluding real estate).
People buy that privately, this camera is a commercial investment.
I think what makes it so hard to grasp is that you only know what makes it worth so much when you know what you're talking about.
Everyone can instantly see and feel the difference between a normal and a hypercar.
nice
No review vlog for ZV E1 ?!?! 😢😢😢
Well, it has arrived! Wait its not the one you bought?
Noisy background.
do thes 80k+ camera eliminate flash frame like the one at 3:26? lol
I shoot on a RED RAVEN
This guy will never get his money back, not even close, It's always better to rent no matter what, you don't want to be bias with your gear.
Sorry but did you cut out Nic one wheeling with the Arri?
lol
Lets See How It Does Against A Red Komodo😁
Eats it for breakfast
Not in the same league Jeeves.
The Alexa 35 is an F1 car and Komodo is a golf cart
Now you'll have to win the Oscar to pay for your Arri.
Then you can name your own price. Its like being on the team vs the MVP.
Omg I saw a scratch nooooooooooooo😢
That’s cool
Wow that’s an epic camera…Make a shorts with it for fun lol
Its the type of camera used to make multi-million dollar feature films.
👍🔥❤️
Dwane johnson jr, I have a movie, let's work
Why does a Roll Royce cost $400k when it does the exact same thing my Honda Accord does for $40K.
