That was a nice demo of how cool the J frame S&W are and how to quickly reload it. I have a model 49 that I’ve owned and carried since 1978. I also have the 38 spl Colt Detective Spl that I’ve owned and carried before the S&W and I chose the S&W over the Colt because I found it to be more accurate for me to shoot. I prefer the model 49 over the centennial because the hammer is covered but it can still shot in single or double action, but you can’t go wrong with earth one. When I was a police officer I would carry it as a backup gun and when I did a vehicle pullover I would have it in my jacket pocket aimed at the suspect without them being aware and I could shoot it while it was in my pocket without it jamming, fortunately I never had to. I would see other officers with their hand on their gun while holstered but if the suspects had their guns out hidden they wouldn’t be able to deploy them in time to defend themselves but I would ,not to mention scaring the shit out of the normal traffic violators as apposed to armed criminals. I’ve owned many types of ammo reloader’s and the ones you demanded are the best . As far as getting the.357 mag I believe it’s a waist because with such a short barrel you can’t get the Velocity a 357 is capable of but you get all the more kick it produces. Regardless you have a very nice firearm and you did a excellent job in producing your video and Demonstrating how to quickly reload it. Thanks for sharing 👍

Nice belly gun ... I bought a 640 Centennial in a Fairbanks gun shop in the late 80s or early 90s. I'd not known S&W had reintroduced the model until I saw a pair of them in the glass case. One as a five shot .38 Special and if I recall correctly, the other was a six shot .32 H&R magnum. Both had rudimentary fixed sights with the front blade milled from the barrel stock and the rear sight, just a longitudinal groove milled into the top strap. ... I'd read lots of articles about what great revolvers the long discontinued Centennials had been, as well as the princely sums they sold for used. ... I'd gone into the gun shop just to browse and didn't have much cash with me. I gave the dealer most of the money in my wallet to hold the .38 for me and left for the bank. I quickly returned with enough money to complete the transaction. I left the shop with the first stainless Centennial that I'd been aware of existing. ... It doesn't have + P marking. Several years later I read an article in which the author had interviewed an executive at S&W (Roy Jinks?). The exec told the writer those stainless .38 Special Centennials were strong enough for + P ammunition. ... Years after that, I was very surprised to see 640s marketed in .357 Magnum. .357s had always been K, L and N frame propositions before. I didn't think J frames were strong enough for .357s, but time marches on. ... I love the sights on your 640 Pro .357 Centennial. ... I saw another 640 Centennial .38, identical to mine once at a pistolsmith's business in Anchorage. The owners had the smithy install a black plastic front sight insert into that stainless blade front sight. It vastly improved the sight picture. ... As my eyes are now old and tired, I have a Crimson Trace laser boot grip on my Centennial. It doesn't extend beyond the bottom of the frame, so it doesn't affect concealability. It gives me a decent grip on the little J belly gun and I'm enamored of having a red dot on target. ... I use Bianchi Speed Strips, loaded with five as backup carry ammunition. They're flat enough to not print, wherever they're carried. ... I'm very, very fond of your sweet 640 Pro Centennial .357. The sights are outstanding.

Yes sir, they are great. They’re tritium night sights. The gun is a work of art. I got fired up when my gun dealer called to say it had arrived. Such a beautiful gun. I’d like to also get a 627 Performance Center 8 shot 2&5/8” barrel. I’ve held it several times and everything about that gun is smooth and beautiful. I learned something about snub nose 357s: if the loads aren’t loaded with enough powder, the shots will be high. I used to use Hornady 125gr for conceal carry and they always shot high. I got Underwood 125gr bonded hp and first shot and after was dead center. Underwood is 200 FPS more velocity than Hornady. The 180gr hit dead center as well. Something I’d highly suggest is to switch to Safariland Speedloaders. When you order them be sure to get group1 under mag pouch size for j frame.

@@20cameron1 ... Good advice. Thanks ... I believe what is happening with high shots from ammunition at lower velocity has to do with the additional length of time the slower bullet spends inside the upward recoiling barrel. As the slower bullets emerge from the muzzle, the handgun muzzle is farther toward the vertical at that time than is a faster prohectile that spends less time within the recoiling bore. ... The phenomenon is especially noticeable with heavy for caliber bullets that can't be driven as fast as their lighter relatives. ... My first .357 revolver was a Model 28, Highway Patrolman N frame 6 shot 6" barrel. It was a version nearly identical to the N frame Model 27, but had a less expensive, utilitarian finish - less time and labor with the buffing wheel = lower purchase price. ... My favorite S&W .357 is the K frame Model 66 Combat Magnum 2 1/2" barrel, round butt. I believe the legendary Bill Jordan fathered that revolver by convincing S&W to introduce a .357 similar to their K frame .38 Combat Masterpiece.

@@martinmiller1087 You’re welcome. Also learned don’t just use flange earplugs in an indoor range with 357 magnum. Holy moly!

Now only if S&W made a revolver with a quick detach cylinder. I hand load black powder 38spl and not being able to clean the base pin bothers me.

what brand of speed loader is that?

Nope! Still way faster with my semi-auto and don't need to reload as often! Enjoy your antiquated technology.

Speed doesn’t matter: accuracy does. Those that have the opinion, yes opinion, that revolvers and especially j frames are antiquated and aren’t a good choice of self defense have to ignore the facts of history. The revolver has stopped threats a long time and way before the mag fed guns showed up. A revolver will force someone to be more accurate. Real easy to just spray and pray when you’ve got 15+ rounds. Here’s the critical point of a revolver: body contact will not stop it from firing. Body contact on a semi auto will shut the gun down and if a revolver has one bad shot, just keep pulling the trigger.

@All Things Mtns Your argument of history is not winning. There was a time we rode horses into battle during WWI, we still have calvary divisions, but not a horse to be found. Why? Cause technology has made horses in battle obsolete. And YES! Revolvers fall into the same boat. If they were still so great, why does every police and military in the world use semi-auto? Your spray and pray argument also loses! With the exception of a very few shooters, I guarantee I can get more shots on target faster and with a higher degree of accurately than most proficient revolver shooters. I'm a firearms instructor in Michigan and average 1500 students a year, 99% of the time when someone brings a revolver to class and I make them shoot fast with that double action trigger, it is an effing disaster! The other 1% are acceptable at best.

@@20cameron1 Using the "extra rounds results in lowered accuracy" logic, why don't you carry a flint lock with a rifled barrel? Why did soldiers ever deem necessary to increase capacity?
This isn't an argument for or against the revolver, simply pointing out the flaw in that line of arguing.
Personally, I wish I could open carry my AR-15 and roof mount my 50cal for self defense without the inevitable consequence being that the very people sworn to uphold my right to do so use their "right" to shoot me for doing so. But hey, everyone has preferences.

@@mpclepto182 Nothing flawed about less capacity forces a shooter to be more accurate. The words five shots will flash through the mind when a self defense situation happens: have been in one not with people but wild hogs.

Your speed loading video was cool, but your inability to have a logical conversation isn't. I hope neither of us ever get into a "self defense situation", that would be great!
