Most user friendly airport I ever passed through. From check in to gate in just a few minutes. Marvellous and so sad to see it closed. Always have loved Berlin as a city and it was the only airport I ever used, through British Airways.
Indeed. The hexagon shape was genius. It doesn't matter wich way you walked, you always reached your plane, you could walk a circle. RIP my beloved TXL😢, I grew up with you. Another piece of West Berlin identity was taken from us by force.
TXL was the first international airport I ever flew to, Air Berlin A330 was the first international flight I ever took. I had a 3 hour layover, I walked out of TXL to the petrol station next to the Burger King and had my first beer outside of USA. RIP TXL.
Tempelhof Airport had one very last landing after it was officially closed, private pilot (coming from TXL btw) stalled and had to do an emergency ditch on a closed runway with people on it.
It must have been a particularly memorable occasion for Air France. Before 1989 they had the rights to operate German domestic flights into Tegel, which was in the French sector of Berlin. Over the years they probably operated nearly as many flights into Berlin as Lufthansa have since taking over the domestic routes.
It‘s a bit emotional. I really enjoyed this airport. There was a nice atmosphere, specially in terminals A and B. The cool thing about this airport was also its location near downtown. Good bye Otto-Lilienthal Tegel Au revoir Base Aérienne 165
Only been to tegel once and that was only last year and im glad I got the chance to experience the airport! The layout is certainly one of the most efficient and unique experiences i've come across and honestly made boarding flights so much more quicker from the fact that you could get from check-in straigt to your gate right after you clear security! Simplicity at its finest. I didnt even know about the importance of this airport either which definitely makes it even more special. Farewell and thank you to a great airport Berlin Tegel airport! #DankeTXL
very cute and touching video, especially when all the airport staff came out to see off the last flight. The end of Tegel's history, probably yes, but this is only the beginning of something new and this story is just beginning ...
I never been there and i don't know how it looks like to be when the airport will shutdown forever ... but last announcement for boarding it gave me chills. And i think if you become the last passenger to entrance the gate that will be unforgettable moments. 😎😎😎
Gracias Tegel.
hey has anyone noticed that, since the airport closed in 2020 and air france was also the first to fly to tegel in 1960, and East Germany reunified in 1990, that means that air france spent half their time at tegel with east germany being a thing and half there time in unified gemany!
I was there to see this flight, it was extremely emotional environment many people were crying, the hub of closedown air Berlin ex crewmen came in full duty uniforms and airport staff , the Berlin police gave salute with helicopters, you need to be a true Berliner to feel this airport , build in just 90 days mostly by women as most of men died in ww2 , it has a great historical importance, I feel luck i came with one of last flight just last month from this airport #danketxl
Still very good I remember this historic- and very last take-off from TXL. Almost two days long the German TV-channel "RBB" broadcasted live from different locations in- and around TXL. From the very rich, highly interesting history and several milestones- and curious anecdotes at TXL. Of course the highlight was the live broadcasting of this very last AF A320-200 take-off in TXL. It,s hardly to believe allready today this was happened almost 4 years ago.
I am having typhoid......... And its diwali time here in India, everyone is celebrating but I am bound to bed for 14 days......... But dude I have been bingewatching your videos to reduce my frustation and pass the time Thanks
What if you had pre-booked this flight before the handover to BER was confirmed and had no idea yours was the sunset flight for the whole airport? I'm sure at least one passenger simply needed to get to France. 🙃

11:27 that's the only time I will allow clapping on a plane - when it's the last flight of something (whether it's an airline's final flight, an airport's final flight or an aircraft types final flight)
Sebastian Brandenburg is not the same as Berlin. It is a different state. Tegel was in Berlin. BER is in Brandenburg. Just as Hertha is from Berlin and Union is from Köpenick.
Berlin plans to build new apartments (that are desperatly needed), a college campus in the former terminal, a new technology centre and the rest will be used as a park: www.stadtentwicklung.berlin.de/staedtebau/projekte/tegel/zukunft_txl/zukunftsplan.shtml
They are leaving the airport as is on standby for return to service for at least 6 months and then really closing it down definitely after that. Then an university and a startup centre are planing to reuse the buildings in TXL. The buildings are now a heritage site. Otherwise the BER has a huge problem and has to close again or is getting overwhelmed by the numbers of passengers. Then TXL has to reopen.
Ye, the terminal will be converted into a college campus, and on the area around it (such as where the runways are), residential and commercial areas will be built. There will also be a research center
For us in former (West) Berlin you were our connection to the free world. I was a little boy when you was opened in 1974. Many times I traveled from you and discovered the world. It's sad that the last months of the airport, they were almost zero flight due to Corona virus.
Bad timing for sure.
And no Air Berlin either, the most fitting airline to close Tegel and to open BER, sigh.
