Let us know what you think of this descent 👇
Global Cycling Network Awesome!
all i can think is what to do if brakes fail? scary
Rob' That is why you should folow gcn's maintenance tips and preride checks
Global Cycling Network It would be nice of you if you could upload a this video without music.
Global Cycling Network It looks fun! What speeds did you reach? just yesterday I reached 47.5 MPH on a crazy downhill!
The hills are alive with the sound of... Disc brakes
Brakes**
Sterling Roberts autocorrect 😒😒😒
This is why I love cycling, tremendous.
i remember going down that quickly once, but then the gf decided she wanted a serious talk about foreplay and taking things slowly lol
I love Matt's cockpit
Matt & Dan have the most awesome job!
it took me 5 mins to realize that the video wasn't cut but infact they just switched rider's POV.
Jude B You're a bit slow aren't you
Jude B I'm right there with ya.
Zdzichu Bolidupa only 5 mins slow though.
Great view, not a single car, great descend except the screaming discs
i enojoyed watching a video of this descent
just imagine doing it for real..the best feeling ever
love these descents 🗻
Matt's breaks sound like chewbacca
This is an absolute stunner. Would love to see more clips like that. Keep it up
I love these, I really do.
Stunning.
Cycling joy.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the epic descents chaps. Gives me a buzz watching them from the comfort of my La-Z-Boy. Now I need to go out and do an epic descent myself !!!!!!
Not one car on the road! Everyone must be sleeping in around there! Great ride to watch. Them brakes sure got warm.
Beautiful and nicely done......love GCN
So much fun . Like it & keep it up 👍👍👍
Matt rocking the rayban normal sunglasses
Fantastic descending.......!
I was getting dizzy there watching what I thought was Si riding circles around Matt. Great video guys, wish I could have been there with you!
Great video also loved it!
Quality content. I'm a bit new to road cycling, but this is the sort of stuff I would love to eventually do. It looks so fun.
I don't think we need a data overlay, for me it's the joy of experiencing the views, the friends together doing what we all enjoy.
Si/Matt - That was wicket... in all honestly guys, that was awesome to watch as I was changing from a ride - loved the music as well... I got to make it there and earn that decent by climbing it first..
Thank you GCN
Man, those ice melt puddles, at the speed they were going at spots--"disconcerting, indeed. Kudos!
this looks like a heckload of fun :D
Reminds me I need to adjust my brakes. Love the music.
loved watching (and riding) this. you can tell who races 'cross out of these two: check out which fork blade/side of wheel you can see as they take the corners - inside for Matt, outside for Si.
That's a bloody lot of meters!
I can't believe you passed by what looked like a coffeehouse without stopping in.
As a new cyclist...I just want to say that watching this video gave me SO. MUCH. ANXIETY. #MyBikeHandlingSkillsCantHandleThis
Dana-Leigh Formon not for new riders I think. It looks fantastic but pretty sure I could not go that fast safely, or without seizing up in terror.
Dana-Leigh Formon You learn to trust your equipment and learn road surfaces...BUT YES it’s STILL SCARY😜🤪😱
What? Where were they going fast? Maybe the camera angel/Setup is to blaim, but I thought it was boring tbh?
Matt Stephens class descender 👌🏻
very very cool........
Hey GCN, lovely climb. Definately on the bucket list. I don't know if you guys cut them out, but I can't see cars so thats another plus. I think it would be cool to see a direct comparison of the break pads before and after, if there is any visible wear. Also, a quick introduction on the bikes you're riding and some data on the screen would be awesome. Cheers for all the great stuff and keep going guys!
love Pordoi, but punctured on this very descent last year :D
they had fun ! 🖒
Seeing as you guys love this region, put the bikes away for a day and try the Via Ferrata, it's what the area is famous for.
Oh wow ! Memories of 28th maratona 😬
wud be Nice to see the speed while you ride down! but nice vid.
nice, was just there a week ago
I need to move out west to the Canadian Rockies, southern Ontario is fine if you like flats and the occasional "bump" in the terrain.
That looks amazing, is it possible to overlay your speeds onto this?
It's so real it's like I was there. I felt like I couldn't clip in for a minute.
It would be nice to do a voiceover/commentary version discussing why you took which line, avoiding potholes/bad patches, how hard you brake etc. Perhaps Sy could discuss the irritation of hearing Matt's squeaky brake pads?
I kept waiting for "Nibali Bunny-hop" Get on that Matt. We have all seen you jump before...
More please
I'm a man...
I see POV, I click
Is it a coincidence that the soundtrack to this (excellent) video is out of the same stable as the Grand Tour theme? You guys are surely the undisputed Top Gear of the roadie channel world?
In the same way that I would imagine myself as Hannibal in the A-Team (strictly when I was a lad, of course. Ahem!) who would you all see yourselves as in the TG/GT line up? Matt = Murdoch?...
I want your job. Very cool
Great video as always guys,
w
Which one of the GCN crew is the fastest/best descender??
Jamie Taylor check out the presenter downhill race without a chain
A lot of breaking whilst cornering there guys.... Today's previous video would teach you otherwise if you'd give it a watch ;)
those breaks are working over time, hope you checked the pads before and after that!
The hills are alive with the sound of... Disc breaks
At which time did you start? Absolutely no cars. Amazing!
If I were you, I would be doing the Doctor Dangle on those hairpins. It's basically stick your foot out when braking.
Is there also a video of the climb?
Matt, that was awkward with your knees directly in front of the camera. Where exactly did you have it mounted?
with all the hair pins, I think this should be on extreme corner.
Do more videos like this ones
so peacefull and serene... oh wait.. Matt's breaks
good stuff ! like many comments below , it would be nice to know what speeds were hit even if it was at the end of the video .
#EPIC
❤️👏👏👏👏
What camera are you using? I'm in the market for one.
Nice Descent!
And I have one question. Is it worth to hybrid bike with the cheap spring Suntour suspension or the better choice will be the rigid alu. fork? thx.
Some ride data would be nice!
seriously, those brakes sound like the call of a wild turkey
What bike was Matt using? I like it a lot!
great! would be even greater if you could overlay the speed and power!
You guys got to overlay some speed and lean angle on these bad boys, makes it just a bit more epic. Thanks for the ride along.
This is my ASMR
If at all possible, could you guys try to get a pro to do this with you? Some people it would be great to see descend would be:
Nibali, Froomey, Kwiatkowski, Gilbert, Fuglsang or whomever you could find willing ;)
3:01 Matt double-checks that his peak is down.
Yo GCN editors, great video... Could you help us and share some your video export settings, since my gopro videos never get this sharpness and clearness. Thank you!
if you use premiere pro, make sure you export it as h.264. depending on the size, the bit rate i usually use is 3-5mbps for 720p vids. maybe 5-7mbps for 1080p. cheers 😁😁
Of course, i do even 15mbps on 1080, but it still gets some huge pixels (you can check out some videos on my channel if you want)
I have the same problem, but only when it's uploaded to youtube. It looks great on my computer, and I just use garmin virb edit.
i saw one of your vids. it must have been compressed by youtube. but if you really want a perfect export, avi is the best bet. :)
Nice. Are you guys riding Orbea Orca and... BMC Roadmachine?
Orbea Orca and Canyon Aeroad CF SLX
No gloves above the snow line - what??? Can you tell I'm from a place called The Sunshine Coast? :)
Was it my imagination or was Si's bike chattering less? Or was it the camera mount? Anyway, looks like a fun descent! Time for a cold one!
Matt, do you prefer the hoods to the drops when descending? Or were you spotting Si the aero position to make it a more even?
Do one on the Zoncolan PLS.
🗻
be nice to see some data like, speed, power, HR etc. garmin virb software?
me : gcn make more epic climbs
Dan Lloyd : Lasty i have a job for you
where was all the traffic - was this done at 6am on a Sunday morning or similar ? Amazing but just wondered what the chances of a clear road would be for anybody else ?
Epic decent boys. Where were all the cars? Did you have the road blocked off? It would have been helpful if you could have yelled out your speed at different moments to get an understanding of just how quick you were going.
by gum ,last time i went down there was on my Raleigh Copper back in the 1970,s.....
Both using discs? How much better/safer do they feel on road bikes?
No gloves? That's crazy! I mean, what do you wipe your snot with, your sleeves?
surely a great video but why don't you guys listen to us and still don't show any data like speed or power on screen? Without that this video is kind of pointless to me..
hi Moritz, thanks for the feedback, I will make a note to see what we can do. cheers, Jon
Global Cycling Network Okay, great. Sorry, I didn't want to be too harsh..
IMHO those videos are about enjoynment and view. As you don't pedal most of the time, power, cadence and HR are irrelevant. So only gradient and speed left. And because it's not a race, it doesn't matter. Power data are interesting for sure, but everybody puts it in videos all over the screen so you can't almost see the ride, so I'm glad I can enjoy pure downhill.
I'm sure they will be happy to give you a refund. (jk)
Yeah , that was a bit harsh. No numbers makes it pointless? They are going fast, can't you see that?
Great video, but when you guys do these it would be more entertaining if you had rear-view cameras as well, and also data on the screen such as speed, power, cadence, elevation, etc. Thanks!
Next time, just for the lolz, could you measure disc brake temperature at the bottom of descent with infrared thermometer?
Wht handlebar sizes are they running?
What cycling computer are those?
Them brakes was cooked thoroughly
No bunny hops over the ice melt?
Cue Extreme Corner music @ 7:45
Avg speed, max speed?
Is there any way the check the ride data? I'd like to see the exact route. It would be nice to go there in the future! :)
Hi, it's the descent into Arabba. thanks
I found it, thank you very much! :)
Both Si and Matt using Wahoo GPSs? Are they preferred over Garmin?
I think they might have some sort of sponsorship deal, maybe?
I didn't like the music and would have liked the kmh or mph on the screen , but nevertheless a great video as always!
And is there a possibility to get back GCN's epic climbs as a series?
