Meet Natural Grocers farm partners, Barb and Doug Burbaugh, a married couple managing a free-range egg operation, caring for their chickens and each other. By providing their hens with the space and environment that they need to thrive, Doug and Barb respect their animals and the land on which they are raised.
At Natural Grocers, we sell only 100% free-range eggs, partnering with farmers who are as dedicated to improving the health and well-being of humans, animals, and the planet as we are. It is important to understand that not all eggs labeled as free range meet our standards. To meet our standard the hens are never caged and they must spend time outside and not just have “access” to the outdoors. And they really must spend time outside-not “outside” on a screened-in concrete or dirt porch, but outside on living range land with dirt and grass, bushes and trees, with insects to hunt and dust to bathe in, and with enough space to live as close to their natural inclinations as possible.
