I think the big change came around Alien 3 when they kind of used the Geiger design with the alien having prominent lips. At that point they started giving it that "witch chin" which I THINK was supposed to humanize the face a little but really didn't.
The head of the alien warriors from Alien resurrection is actually smaller that regular xenomorphs. In this case it is quite smaller than it should be, but just a bit. For me it looks extremely awesome this way!
Well, starting with Alien 3 and going through AVP:R, the creation of the alien effects were handed off to a few guys who had splintered off from Stan Winston's shop, if memory serves me. They basically designed an alien concept they liked and used it twice. It also accounts for the brown color.
Yeah, you're right, I saw on a documentary, the chin enlargement happened to make the xeno look more menacing, in my opinion it works, and gives it more character.
I had a couple of Alien and Predator McFarlane toys when I was a kid and I played with them and broke the shit out of most of them, I know it's not their intended use but it makes me appreciate them so much more now that I'm old enough to take care of them.
Giger design is my favorite i don't if it's me but Giger's version of the Xeno is more alien than insect and has that scary look that you don't want to mess with and it's almost unstoppable i hope in future games or any movies they use his design for example alien isolation used Giger's design
I have been looking everywhere for this. I found one on display at a comic shop but it wasn't for sale. The second I saw it, I was filled with excitement only to realise it wasn't for sale. And of course I was bummed out because it got my hopes up.
If he was with the Hicks figure it most likely the new Aliens sculpt, not this one. It should have some new tooling and better articulation. Can't wait to get my hands on that one, and the Marines.
no mention of the forearms being mounted on the wrong side? I thought it was just mine, but I see yours has it as well. check the inside of the dog alien's wrist, you'll see the same tubes running there, only here they are on the wrong side.
Cheers for the video mate! I have the same discoloration on my figures head too, i think it might be intended as part of the paint job? it looks suspicious but glad i'm not the only one.
check out the kenner alien Resurrection alien worrier, at first glance it looks like a toy, but its one of the more movie accurate alien res figures in this scale, also i have all the Mcfarlane aliens, including two res figures, and all their tails are warped.
I just bought 2 of these loose on ebay...they where part of a lot that included a Hicks and an "Aliens" warrior. The whole lot cost me $30 even, I think for the Hicks and the black Aliens warrior thats worth it
I can't say I wasn't influenced by the guy, but I wasn't trying to be a direct rip off. Maybe next time I'll ask Shartimus Prime to write me a theme song...
i'm with you on this. i decided to get one, simply because it contasts my NECA figures so much. Although the differences betweeen giger's big chap and the alien 4 xenomorphs are exagerated, thats what mcfarlane did with the alien franchise overall. with regards to some parts of the alien not conforming to the "man in suit" formula, i feel mcfarlane did this on purpose so as to create xenomorphs not restricted by man-in-suit special effects/restraints. Furthermore, in the same way that james cameron said his warrior aliens were older versions of big chap from the original alien (hence the head ridges) i feel the same about this version of the alien 4 xenomorphs in that their adaptations would eventually be exageratted and would not neec more than one generation to do so when one takes into consideration the accelerant effects of the black goo (see prometheus) and how it may effect these alien-HUMAN hybrids...we must not forget that these are not only naturally occuring combinations of human and xeno DNA but also pretty much GMO's created by the united systems military. just my theory/justification. i love my xenomorphs and i have mcfarlane and neca mingling amongst each other as different manifestations of the same thing in the same way that elseworlds comics provide alt universes for DC comics. what do y'all think? p.s. speaking of giger's design, mcfarlane's dog alien reflect's more of giger's alien 3 concept art than the neca version despite their differences in quality regaruding articulation/colouration/stance (i still prefer the mcfarlane dog alien, to this day)
Imho the Hasbro Warrior Alien is the best AR figure, It doesn't have the best articulation but the proportions and the sculpt is just spot on and far better than MF's.
theres also a kenner or hasbros which has a blue stipe on its dome dont if thats right plus it comes with removeable alien privates very weird but still not as stupid as the early kenner figures u should get it its is in a prepose but still a gd sculpt
I love your reviews. I have this alien and the spotting on the back of the head is normal. It's part of the paint job. As for the rubber, I have mine in but like you noticed it does limit torso movement.
+therealfritzilla Is the color on yours a reddish brown as well? I recently managed to snag this alien and the body color on mine is actually closer to a very dark brown with only faint hues of the red. Must've lucked out with mine as well; haven't noticed any speckling on the dome.
I have one in package and one opened and they are both all brown. I have no red or orange color in mine. The spotting I have looks like the one in the video, in the rear 1/3 of the head and the spotting is light grey just like the one in the video.
One thing I hope NECA does is make an Alien newborn. Many didn't like it and wen I first saw it I didn't either, but it's really grown on me over time and the only affordable Newborn figure out (and the one I have) was the one from Kenner with the too-human looking face.
I'm going by what McFarlane put on their packaging for the purpose of the review. Granted the package actually says "Warrior Alien", but I'll just blame that on dyslexia.
I believe the actual props were black with brown highlights. The filters and lightibg used to shoot the movie made them look pure black and sometimes blue in the finished movie.
I'm not sure if I was the only one who noticed, but the alien, and avp movies seemed to stretch the chin shape of the span of the movies. Like in the first movie the xeno had a small human like chin and from there on as the design changed so did the chin length, the design to me looked a little less human each time that could be a good thing and a bad thing at the same time.
My least favorite figure but I found one on eBay new in package for $12 shipped. I had it years ago. Decided it's worth the money to have in my collection once more. That being said I will keep it unopened as standing this figure is impossible and as you pointed out the sculpt doesn't really go well with the neca line. Great collection piece but less than desirable for displaying out of package
no, not the alien 3 dog alien. BudderWarrior is obviously troll First thing you can see is it has those spine things on its back. dog alien does not. There are a bunch of features that make them different. Every film has a slightly different creature based off Gigers original. They made the dog alien as part of this same series, looks pretty cool. i own the one in this video, but the dog alien looks great. on my wishlist.
I will say that i much prefer giger's design, but I actually like this more "fleshy" organic look. I makes for a good contrast against NECA's more conventional aliens.
In truth the main problem with this design is Amalgamated Dynamics design. When the Alien franchise fell on their hands, they just butchered the Alien alien design(you'll get what I meant by that) I can accept the dog/ox Alien, but the rest of their designs on the alien are just generic turds that only serve as table in the movies. In Alien, the creature was a character and the design just blew off the man in the costume concept. With AD designs it just goes back to being a silly stupid man in a concept. Although McFarlane just exaggerated this, it also demonstrated this in clear light. His Big Chap is actually a good example as well as his warrior, even though they are inferior to Neca's now.
I was never a fan of the chicken leg design! Is it just me, or did the Alien design just get browner as the series went on? AVP Aliens went black again though!
Alien resurrection was a stupid movie, they mixed human DNA with the xenomorph and so it made different xenomorphs which is weird because aren't the "classic" Xenomorphs mixed with human dna but doesn't the embryo copy the DNA of the host, so alien resurrection was a dumb movie. if any of my information about the movie is wrong please tell me!
Funny thing the avp alien and resurrection are really similar in design.
I think the big change came around Alien 3 when they kind of used the Geiger design with the alien having prominent lips. At that point they started giving it that "witch chin" which I THINK was supposed to humanize the face a little but really didn't.

Mau dL
Lost all of mine at the Beach. :(
Mau dL I still have a few on my memories box, just to remind my good moments with those toys :3
i like the older designs more I LIKE H.R GIGERS ALIEN MORE
Giger design is my favorite i don't if it's me but Giger's version of the Xeno is more alien than insect and has that scary look that you don't want to mess with and it's almost unstoppable i hope in future games or any movies they use his design for example alien isolation used Giger's design

Mile High Comics has like 10 of these each for $15 right now lol
I just LOVE this figure so muuuch!
What the fuck happened to Giger's monster?
He died of heart attack when he saw those designs
Erden Yesiloglu too soon
If he was with the Hicks figure it most likely the new Aliens sculpt, not this one. It should have some new tooling and better articulation. Can't wait to get my hands on that one, and the Marines.
They reused this mold for the avp alien figures. They just changed the forearms and the knees. I hate that rubber piece under his ribs. lol
Love the sculpt design of this Alien figure, but very fragile fig.
I hate the design. Let Pumpkinhead be Pumpkinhead and let the Alien be the Alien.
The "normal" alien with a translucid dome is the drone xenomorph, the pumpkinhead is the warrior xenomorph.
no mention of the forearms being mounted on the wrong side? I thought it was just mine, but I see yours has it as well. check the inside of the dog alien's wrist, you'll see the same tubes running there, only here they are on the wrong side.

Great review OutSideTheBoxReviews =) I dit also a review on this figure. One of my favorite Alien figures IMO :D

it looks like the runner standing up on two legs

Yeah, I would be down for one. Maybe an exclusive version that matches the actual puppet too. You know, before they digitally removed his alien junk.
Lol yes.
I like it, but I think its because it was the first figure I got.
Was long time before I started my collection.
I'm going by what McFarlane put on their packaging for the purpose of the review. Granted the package actually says "Warrior Alien", but I'll just blame that on dyslexia.
why are some of the alien toys brown when in the movie there black
I believe the actual props were black with brown highlights. The filters and lightibg used to shoot the movie made them look pure black and sometimes blue in the finished movie.
i had the same problem with the tail!
veddy nice man, love me some xeno's
It might just be because these are older figures but most of your Mf alien figures have some sort of broken joint.
that is the same mold as the prometheus alien form prometheus
I'm not sure if I was the only one who noticed, but the alien, and avp movies seemed to stretch the chin shape of the span of the movies. Like in the first movie the xeno had a small human like chin and from there on as the design changed so did the chin length, the design to me looked a little less human each time that could be a good thing and a bad thing at the same time.
I didn't like resurrection as much as the first two, but I did like the alien design alot.
I personally like this design over Giger's original. Idk why
If no one has told you yet I have owned 4 of these guys the tail is sculpted to be twisted around at the tip for no real reason
This guy? Not even close. The Deacon is much much smaller and shaped very different.
*Drone, not Warrior
My least favorite figure but I found one on eBay new in package for $12 shipped. I had it years ago. Decided it's worth the money to have in my collection once more. IS THIS DOG ALIEN?
Nope
Yes it is I've researched this a million times it is
These aliens are bred from humans, not dogs. The Betty crew is smuggling in human hosts for the military to impregnate with xenomorphs.
no, not the alien 3 dog alien.
BudderWarrior is obviously troll
First thing you can see is it has those spine things on its back. dog alien does not. There are a bunch of features that make them different. Every film has a slightly different creature based off Gigers original.

i think that alien resurrection is a whole lot better than alien 3
Frosty Venom nope
McFarlane wins since it has alien resurrection figure
mines worped as well
this is a alien drone
In truth the main problem with this design is Amalgamated Dynamics design. When the Alien franchise fell on their hands, they just butchered the Alien alien design(you'll get what I meant by that) I can accept the dog/ox Alien, but the rest of their designs on the alien are just generic turds that only serve as table in the movies. Buy me one and I will.
It looks like a bad designed Drone
I was never a fan of the chicken leg design! Is it just me, or did the Alien design just get browner as the series went on? AVP Aliens went black again though!
Not at all, at least for me, Mcfarlane looks great for it's generation, but not anymore, just like the Predator, Neca kills Mcfarlane's preds.
o ya sorry =(
in my opinion that's a horrible alien toy
looks horrible
Alien resurrection was a stupid movie, they mixed human DNA with the xenomorph and so it made different xenomorphs which is weird because aren't the "classic" Xenomorphs mixed with human dna but doesn't the embryo copy the DNA of the host, so alien resurrection was a dumb movie.
if any of my information about the movie is wrong please tell me!
Boy do you need eye-surgery
No. Get out.
