South Korea's former prosecutor-turned-president Yoon is said to be innocent in his wife's bribery and stock manipulation case through political prosecutors. However, his wife manipulated $2 million and her accomplices went to jail. Other bribery cases, political intervention, but prosecutors failed to arrest her. The people were outraged and called for impeachment, and his approval rating was 17%. Today, he announced martial law by mobilizing the military. However, martial law without the consent of the National Assembly is illegal. The military's intrusion into the National Assembly is also illegal. 190 members of the National Assembly voted in favor of lifting the ban. He is going to end up going to jail
And the Military knowing their laws, checks and balances still went ahead (I suppose they knew all that was completely illegal) still went ahead and obeyed the unlawful order. Talk about doing the right thing.
Any national leader whose wife in convicted of such a serious crime , should just step down or his own party should remove him. The public in any country are not goung to accept such a situation and believe that a leader was unaware of a spouse involved in such serious crime. And if his own party was a democratically operating party , they would get rid of him to maintain their own party viability. If they rally around him they destroy the credibility of the whole party. "The South Korean Parliament recently passed a law aimed at shielding the opposition leader from legal risks and ensuring his exoneration. The opposition leader is implicated in at least four corruption cases. Despite years of delays in his trials, he was recently acquitted in one case. Furthermore, prosecutors investigating these cases have been impeached by Parliament. The legislative majority is closely aligned with the leftist opposition, which has used its influence to block the presidential administration's budget, leaving it with no financial resources to operate effectively."
