I discovered your channel about two weeks ago and have watched nearly every one of your videos. I don't fish, but watching your videos sure makes me want to get out there. Much love and respect from just down the coast in Shell Beach...fish on! Let's go!!!
@@DG-kq8zf lol it sure is! I work from home and got Matt's videos playing in the background as I work. I've read several other people comment that he's the Bob Ross of fishing and I agree, there's something chill about his voice and delivery.
This channel is so simple, without unnecessary flash, just a few timely edits. It's perfect for these kind of videos. You're really relatable, knowledgeable, and you're easy to listen to. I haven't fished in years, but man, I'm gonna get out there this summer now!
Im currently 14, obsessed with freshwater and saltwater fishing. I really want to get myself a nice boat, around 9ft long with a cabin so I can go fishing. I watch these "small boat fishing" videos imagining myself on these. You're living my dream. Keep going bro!
Yo Matt! I’m from Mill Valley and have spent years out in the water surfing…seeing your videos makes me miss home so much (in San Diego now) I miss going out to Bolinas and the Patch with all the homies on their boats…nothing beats what we have up there. I respect your grind, and really hope to see you out there one day. Keep on killing it brotha!! Yessssirr
“San Francisco California, it’s a beautiful place although it is very expensive and there are a ton of rules I don’t really like”-That sums it up pretty well actually.
Hey matt!! I love all the videos. I'm a 12 year old fisherman from santa cruz and LA. Ive been watching your videos since i was about 8 or 9 and you got me hooked on fishing. I'm heading over to san fran from santa cruz for the street fair and I cant wait!!. Thnak you for all the amazing content and inspiring young fishermen like me!!!!
I've watched almost all your videos and enjoyed them all, I like the fact that your videos are well edited and importantly you don't swear so it's kid friendly...My 8 year old son loves your channel as well and I don't have to worry about any foul language. Thank you and keep the videos going! Hope to get out to SF one day and bump into you on the water!
Looks like a low swell weekend. Putting the gear together and going shore fishing in my favorite coves. 2 mile hike before dawn. Black and yellows and Cans up there. Love it...
That gimbal gives us a lot more context into how how aggressive that water is! Always upping your cinematography game. Thanks for the great content, Matt!
Thanks for doing these types of videos. After seeing a similar video you did i started going out of fort bragg in an inflatable kayak. As long as you keep your witts about you its mostly safe. Happy fishing to all and to all a hard bite.
Terrific video! I fled San Francisco 25 years ago and am now in Alaska. But when I lived there I used to swim in the bay everyday. This video makes me really miss it. If you're going to fish and crab in the bay with a boat like that you better have a lot of experience and be a good swimmer.
@@1SeekTruth1 It's ridiculously stable, but you will get spray and mist over the bow. I paid About 7k for the boat, bow rails, and seat compartment, so it's similar to his set up.
With respect because I love your videos Matts. If the sailor is inexperienced, the gate is not somewhere anyone should go in a small boat. I would be very careful in giving this advice. When the tide is going out, it can be TREACHEROUS (in all sense of the word) trying to get through the gate. If you haven't experienced this phenomenon, you don't want to experience this in a tiny boat. The wind is heading the opposite direction of the tide during outgoing tide. The combination of opposing forces often develop huge and short waves. The chop will be overwhelming to a tiny and loaded boat. I would never try to go out or in during heavy winds and outgoing tide in a craft that size. You could get in REAL TROUBLE.
Man, if it is a softshell means that just molted. So they are filled mostly with water and poor muscle content since it just expanded to a bigger size from a smaller shell filling itself with water. Here in Spain we say that the crab is empty, in species from here you can tell if they molted recently by touching the tips of the marching legs to see if they bend or are hard. Maybe that works with dungeness.
Yeah, should always throw those back for dungeness, too. When they are soft like that, there's almost no meat in it and it can taste kind of like saltwater with some crab flavor. Kept one on accident once and learned the hard way.
@@dave-yj9mc That is because when it's soft you can fry and eat it whole, as long as i know it is made with the invassive green crab, carcinus maenas, which is so small that taking the meat of the body is a hellish work. But for dungeness and other big crabs is better to harvest the hardshells and take the meat from them. I may be wrong and it is made from other species...
Good pointers! Only thing I do differently in my craft is I use my gaff to grab the line under the bouy for the crab pots. That way I have control over it before I put the boat in neutral to retrieve.
Awesome vid. In the northeast I have very good luck using strips of flounder belly. Try giving strips of halibut as bait if you ever run out of bait. 🤘
Love your videos man! I live in Fremont, work in San Rafael, you got me into crab snaring early this year and I've been in Pacifica the past few weekends hooping and snaring on the pier for dungies. I know better than to drop a tax return on a tiny boat and give this a shot without any sea legs, but you make it look like a ton of fun!
the belly is also where you gaff them if you want the meat to spoil fast. soon as the stomach or intestines are ripped it starts to spoil, you eat them fast so it isn't a concern. if your not eating them that day clean them there.
Mats I just want to say over the years I appreciate you trying little different editing styles (like the anchovie transition etc) ik some people don’t like it but as an editor who loves playing with vfx, I love seeing you try different stuff out. Keeps the videos fresh too. Tight lines!
I won't be able to attend that event in August but hopefully in 2023! Love all your videos. Subbed, brother. I'm a soon-to-be new (and first time) small boat owner / aspiring fisherman. Nowhere near the ocean so lakes & rivers will be it for us, except for perhaps an annual trip. Just wanted to thank you for being a helpful source of information.
I missed fishing that SF bay and outside the gate. In your vid where you are showing setting up your pole near the bay bridge tower on the SF side, there is a hole there where I use to wireline troll for striped bass with hoochies on the bottom. Also outside the gate near mile rock, there is rock close to shore where you can fish for rockfish or blues mid-bottom.
My buddy has a 14 ft aluminum boat we launch from Richmond. We can stay out till @3 hiding from wind behind brooks island, or the rock wall into the harbor. 3rd hook run a flasher a hoochie w hook and 2 on bait.
