here is one of the severely underrated guitar players. In my eyes - he is up there with Fripp, Howe, Page, Belew, and other greats.Only he could implement blues with such grace in GG's massive and complicated canvas.

Hes very skilled, much like the vast majority of the era that you mention, one thing though: Gentle Giant does not apply to the ear of the average listener.

You stated that well. I love Gary Green and have so much respect for the man. He, like the others, was another important and perfect ingredient in a band capable of doing something challenging and palatable. I'm glad their art lives on and that's coming from someone born in 1986!

Totally agree. Anyone who can keep up with Kerry Minnear and Ray Shulman on bass has my respect (being a long-time guitarist). To think that he started out as a blues guitarist is mind boggling, although using some of that blues/rock style along with the insane melodies and counterpoints is what gave GG some grit, like Howe gave Yes some grit (along with Squire's tone). Gentle Giant may never be a household word, but the music is so amazing that it will always live on and inspire new musicians.

Gentle Giant the band itself was also hugely underrated. They were THE leading prog rock group. They have been my favourite band ever since I was accidentally sent a copy of In A Glass House in the wrong sleeve! Needless to say I didn't complain and return it. A gift from God. Rock on guys. Rest in the knowledge that despite the lack of fame you were the best by far.

Your band has given me countless hours of joy. Its really a musicians band because alot of the material is very complex and reflects the incredible level of musicianship not usually understood or appreciated. That and your all a little bonkers.

I met Gary at the Montreal prog music festival, and SUCH a nice guy, it was like he was my friend after 3 days!!! Met him again 2 years after and he would remember the good times back then. Can you imagine, getting so close to this "mythic band" lead musician.
I've seen Three Friends 3 times since then and everytime was so delightfull. Long live Gentle Giant, long live Three Friends, Long live Gary Green...the most Gentle prog rock icon of history.

Gentle Giant must be one of my biggest influences as a musician. I remember the time when I began to take writing and recording my own music seriously, and all of Giant's records were on regular rotation! The single most unjustly under-appreciated band I can think of. Timeless!!

I several times read that GG was underrated. But if you think at the huge stream of musicians that was inspirate by those geniuses, the enormous influence they had on prog rock and on many other style, the uncomparable talent as polyinstrumentalist, you finally realize that money or success are just impostors and what really matters is the harvest of loving souls they collect in such short career. Thanks Gary and Ray and Derek and John and Jerry. Love.

Great guitarist band. Indeed ( can't say "Yes"...), one of the true greats of " Prog=Rock"
Growing up as a musician in New York City in the 70's I was fortunate to catch just about every GG tour of America. ( GG w/ Brand X & Starcastle at the Sheafer Music fest, etcetc ). WHat outstanding shows. Forever grateful for helping hone my drumming/percussion skills. Hope Three Friends makes it out west to Salt Lake City!...

I am one of those who where deeply touched by the music of GG. It has always been present in my life, but after starting to study music, listening to GG again made me understand what they were doing at that time, those ultra creative, technical, melodic and catchy grooves in sequences of marvelous albums in a row, and when this all took place made it crazy revolutionary. No band has ever made music so musically inspired as GG did. Long live the Giant.

I’m so glad I found him and GG when I was a teenager, some of the discordant bits in their music remind me of modern noise and chaotic punk/hardcore/metal. I’m not even joking lol but aside from that the infectious and dense arrangements they made are still incredibly ambitious yet palatable even in 2021.
