Great tutorial. Easy to follow. As a Linux Mint user, I found the select text shortcut didn't work at first. But after a bit of research, I found a way around it. For other Linux beginners, Alt + click on text layer to select text in Windows is Alt + power (Windows) key + click in Linux Mint.
hmm, I am still stuck! Do you mean Alt + Super + click? This does not work for me. I have tried all combinations of alt, ctrl, shift, fn and still cannot get the function. I am on Kubuntu. Anyone?
Excellent tutorial. I learned a lot and was able to figure out other things too. Got my business card designed and looking sharp. Thank you so much for this video.
I tried to download this just now and the Windows executable would not download correctly (plug-in for GIMP) and when I tried the Zip File Windows Defender complained that there was something bad going on, so this may no longer be a good file to use.
How do you create text with gradient where like you got 40% of the text up and down white and the tiny middle bit of the text like grey creating like a metal text
Dear Michael Davies, thank you for this tutorial! I just have one question: Whenever I use the Textured Glass effect on selected shapes, it makes them look completely distorted and destroyed? Why is that?
hey i have been using gimp for a very long time, tell me how do i use the gradient overlay a letter or item, i dont want to use it to make a texture, im so lost with this new upgrade. its killing me. i want the old one back js
I have 2.10.28. Gimic suggests downloading "latest dev" binaries. I have tried installing both the stable and the latest dev separately. Gimic shows up in Gimp under preferences-plug ins, but not a choice in Filters. Can you help me access Gimic in my newest version of Gimp?
yay, this G'MIC plug-in is so helpful!!!
Wow, this video came out at the exact right moment. It'll help me create two shirts for my business.
This was a very fun tutorial to follow, and I learned a few things while trying it out. Thank you very much for making this!
Very nice tutorial for somebody who have not seen GIMP before.

Ugh! My bad! Your key combo works! Thanks! nb. I was clicking on the text name and not the layer.

Another detail that could make this realistic, like the "Gimp" engraved on the black leather, is to beavel the letters layer.
Thank you very much
The app add-on to accomplish this effect is not available for the Apple platform of computers.
Thanks!
Very nice, thumbs UP!
Everything worked up until the alt click to select the text. I did not select my text like that and allow me to right click on the gold leaf layer.
Good tutorial

You could simply use the "brushed aluminum" gradient in GIMP (it's in the list of default gradients when choosing the gradient type).
@@DaviesMediaDesign ok thanks :)
Great tutorial! I'll have to try this out, myself! Is the "BumpMap" function in GIMP 2.10 any different than in GIMP 2.8? Thanks for posting!
All went well until 10:10 the layer didn't drop onto the new layer it replaced it
same thing, fallow to the letter and it does not come up like yours
I opened it in GIMP and it said the GMIC version is too old for my GIMP.

After editing a picture how do i match the noise/grain if it's a low quality image for example so it looks consistent?
