    I assumed you'd have problems painting over the pencils again with the gouache ('beading'/separation of the paint), but I suppose this very much depends upon what type of pencils you're using and/or the consistency of the gouache used in the overpainting?

      Prismacolors definitely allow for overpainting. I personally haven't tested others, but it's possible if they're really waxy or heavily built-up you may have that problem. My pencil application here is pretty light for the most part.

    I loved your demonstration.
    Such a lovely piece of art.
    I tend to get a glossy sheen when I apply pencil over gouache. Are you using pastel pencils?

      There is a satin kind of sheen. I've covered the majority of the portrait with the pencils, so it tends to feel unified. The problem that I find, is when the pencils are used more as a corrective tool rather than integrated in the process.
