We made it to 2021 YAYAYAY!!!
2020 was definitely not the year we all expected it would be, but it had so many bright spots!!! Many of those bright spots are in this video!
My appreciation for books has really grown, and I can't wait to share my favorites of the year! This video is a love letter to books and to authors, specifically the ones that kept me company throughout 2020!
This is also a love letter to you who's reading this! Thank you for being the most loyal of friends! I am beyond grateful to be part of this community, and I don't know where I would be without you! So...THANK YOU!!!

Read Karenina and didn't care?!!! This baby-grandpa Tolstoy is one of the greatest philosophers, but he's making it through stories. Maybe Karenina is the best novel of all time. What do you mean?

The Tinder Box and the Steadfast Tin Soldier are some of my favorites of all time! I agree with you about Hans Christian Andersen’s reach in terms of shaping film and literature-he is so wonderful. I’ve been meaning to pick up E. M. Forster for some time so hopefully this will be the year! Looking forward to joining in with Dickens vs Tolstoy. It sounds like you had a wonderful reading year!

I love A Separate Peace! I plan to reread it later this year. Glad to hear The Yellow Wallpaper made it on your favorites list. I plan to read it this year as well. Emma is one of my favorites of Austen. My favorite movie adaptation is the one with Gwyneth Paltrow, but I loved Bill Nighy as Mr. Woodhouse in the latest one 🙂

I’m so looking forward to reading Maurice now. I think you should definitely read A Passage to India as your next Forster novel. I read it as my first book of this year and it’s so good!
Also, as a side note because I’m a total opera nerd, the term ‘divo/a’ simply refers to the lead character in an opera. I think it was hijacked to mean ‘someone overly dramatic and demanding’ by people who don’t like opera. I’m still hoping to read Phantom of the Opera this year, too, because you and Emma have me very excited about it and I’d love to see what it has to say about music and opera.
Some of my favorite books of the year were The Doll Factory, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, The Lady of the Camellias, and the diaries of Anne Lister.

I loved this video! This also turned out to be my biggest reading year. My favorite book of 2020 was The Picture of Dorian Gray, I just can't put into words how much I loved that book.

I felt exactly the same about Levin, he's my favorite character from Anna Karenina ! I completely agree, Tolstoy has this talent to transport us to the heart of his stories. I have also read War and Peace (which I preferred to Anna Karenina) and I can't wait to see what you will think about it ! It is one of my favorite books of 2020 and probably of all time 💙

Completely Agree on Tess of the D’Urbervilles, I read it for Victober in 2020, it was a emotional roller coaster 😢, Tess deserved so much better....planning on reading Mrs. Dalloway this month, and Anna Karenina is on my 2021 TBR 😉

There were so many books I've read and love in 2020 (HEARTSTOPPER!), but I think I'm gonna pick The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. It was so magical, so beautiful written, the characters were so powerful and memorable, it was a very very lovely book

Great Expectations was my all-time favorite for 8 years! BUT... it finally, and recently, just got dethroned by one massive book, which I think is also in your TBR list Carolyn! It is The Count of Monte Cristo! Highly suggest everyone to consider reading The Count of Monte Cristo bc holy shit, it transported me to a different world, and it was soo hard to stop reading once I started! I didnt want it to end, even though the book is ~1300 pages long 🥲

Not a bad list of books, at all! As a matter of fact, I have read several, particularly in the top 10, and found the books to be excellent. Thus, the list is not that surprising, and extremely focused.
