  • If you haven't heard of Motioncam, it's a revolutionary app that lets you record videos in RAW - maximizing the potential of your smartphone camera.
    I've been using Motioncam professionally since its early days, and I'm amazed it could even reach this level. The Directlog update basically introduces all the benefits of RAW without the storage cost!
    0:00 Motioncam is my default camera
    0:52 Cost in terms of storage

    Great info on this bro. I've been so hesitant to use this for my long form films but I need to give this a re visit.

      Give it a try bro. I really think you'd like it especially if your hardware can shoot in 10-bit hevc (Unlike me with my S22 U 😆)

    4K 30fps raw video works really well on my old Samsung s21. Then in the manage videos tab I'll set render to ProRes LT. Seems to be a good compromise between quality and file size.

      I'm planning a directlog tutorial, anything specific you're looking for?

    I don't understand Log videos. What do you do with the vdeos once recorded? Do you grade them? Thank you.

    • @AndroMatthew
      @AndroMatthew  Місяць тому +1

      Basically, Log videos are video recorded in a way that keeps as much color data. And you can have a lot of flexibility to color grade them in post. If you're not into grading your footage, you can just record in Rec709 😁 that should give you a nice looking video that's good enough for social media and even editing if you don't plan to color grade.

      @@AndroMatthew What I do with my settings now is: direct log video, prores 10 bit, HQ, MCrawlog, I also rad there are MotionCam technical Luts but I guess they are for Raw videos...? Then I edit in Davinci or VN (on my phone) and try to adjust colors if needed. Thank you for your videos.

      You're welcome. That sounds like a fine setting. Do you bin your prores videos?

      @@AndroMatthew What do you mean by "bin"? (English isn't my first language).

    • @AndroMatthew
      @AndroMatthew  Місяць тому +1

      There's an option for binned video in motioncam. Basically, it takes your 4k video and uses the pixel around it to make clearer 1080p image. Use that if you're shooting in prores.

    how much storage should i be bringing with me?

    • @AndroMatthew
      @AndroMatthew  2 місяці тому

      It really depends, but generally more is better.
      Ideally, 1TB
      Optimally, 512GB → I'm here
      Minimum 256GB

      @@AndroMatthew thanks i got a S23 Ultra 512gb. I thought it would be too small, but maybe with the HEVC i can maximise quality and keep size down.
