Always interesting how people say the D batteries are so expensive compared to AA. But when you think about battery use, each alkaline D cell is 10'000mah of power and because of that they operate way more efficiently than AA thermally, meaning that AA will start to warm up and you loose a lot of power to heat with a high power LED of any kind where as D cells running that same LED are still really not even working hard and thermal resistance stays very low. Looking at these Stream lights, medium mode on the D cell Siege is 175 lumens for 70 hours. The AA Siege is 200 lumens on high for 7 hours. So to match 3 D batteries your going to need 30 AA. All of the sudden you need to carry an extra half pound in batteries if you were wanting to match what the D cell model can do with just the batteries loaded in the lantern. Same is true with my Sony ICF-F10 2D cell AM FM radio which ran more than 1000 hours on the same batteries over a year of daily use at 1/3 volume. All the AA radios are 10-20 hours run time at best! And again with my 3D Maglite LED that is 80 hours at 160 lumens. There are some great cases for AA use with low power devices and certainly for a weekend backpacking trip that makes sense and when weight is a real factor. But D cells are electronically superior for most well designed electronics making the cost of them less in many applications.
I LOVE my Siege 3D, and am on the market for another one. This is an interesting option, as I have a lot of AA powered stuff,.. but its hard to give up that D cell runtime!

I have been a fan of your well made videos whether they are gear, furry companion, or firearm related as the quality of each is without comparison. The AA is better choice for usability, the bigger one to me isn't worth getting because of the D batteries. Even if AA to D adapters were purchased it drain Aa very quickly

I also wanted to say you have some cool dogs there... The one loved getting the lantern while the other one was like "Mom did you really have us get into the tub just to throw these lanterns at us"... Awesome... lol
Fwiw you can get aa -> D adapters. You obviously won't get the run time you would with D batteries but if you have a decent stock of aa batteries that might be a good compromise.
That's a pretty thorough review. I have the large version, and will buy the small. I wish they had kept the top carabiner as well. Why start removing features when you make a smaller version? Still one of the best lanterns on the market. I saw one in the Cabelas store, with their own branding.

i like the Streamlight Siege AA its small easy to carry in camping and its floats, i like the AA battery that i can carry a spare of Alkaline AA batteries during long days of camping no worries of recharging and easy to dispose. Easy to find AA size batt. I use AAA battery on my headlight and My Garmin GPS also use AA battery. I dont like not like the newer once that uses 18650 and 21700 batteries or the build in batt that needed to be charge thru folding solar panels or powerbank. I only use my powerbank back up for my device like phone and camera.. Its better to pack light in long camping trips. For home use i use rechargeable batt like eneloop to save money on batteries.

I don't get why anyone would want a strobe on a lantern that has no directional shield, you are only going to blind yourself. I thought the huge difference in the run time was a notable change.

you can use eneloop battery adaptors on your big siege, D to AA, i have them on mine,one thing i like on the new siege are the control.
I love that size. Much more applicable to backpacking, and plenty of light for that use.
Gun Sense (drmaudio) I love the size too. It's perfect for camping, and it's actually really bright in the dark, even on its lowest setting

I just got some Eneloop AA to D size spacers for my Siege on amazon for about $8-. Great option for the big lantern, and it makes it WAYYYY lighter!

Great vid! The lumin output is understandably lower but if you put 3 lithium AA's in the lantern I'll bet that the burn times will be comparable.

Have you tried Black Diamond Voyager? It's lighter and more compact while holding 4 AAs. Theoretically longer runtimes, but that needs to be tested.
