Hopefully you've found a permanent fix. I've no real experience of fixing leaks on camper conversions but have had a fair bit on boats and houses. What I've found is that sometimes the fix isn't long lasting. Ageing of the sealant plus expansion and contraction and in the case of boats, movement. I discovered that non-setting mastics worked far better. Glad you haven't had to try getting the window out! Do you think the shape of the glass and the shape of the van were far enough out to cause the gaps? Maybe the professionals put pressure on the glass to squash it harder against the sealer?
I hear what you’re saying, I’ve been looking closely at van windows since the leak and it’s obvious lots of have had remedial work done. I don’t imagine we’ll ever really know what the cause was. I wouldn’t know what to do differently next time
