  • Rifle/Shoulder Connection on a Precision Rifle
Here I discuss some trends I see with my students and how rely they too much on their rear bag to support the back of the rifle. This does not allow the shooter to ever gain positive control of the rifle in the prone causing some recoil management issues.
Building your position, initially, without the aid of a rear bag, allows you to get a better purchase of your rifle in your shoulder, increasing overall control of the rifle and recoil management.
    Rifle Specifications:
Rifle: Gunwerks Magnus chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.
    Ammo: Hornady 140 ELD-M
    Suppressor: Gunwerks 8IGHT Suppressor.
    Optic: Kahles K525i 5-25x56 MOAK
    Trigger: TriggerTech Primary

Wow! So, I had been taught this before by a world class sniper, but I so rarely shoot precision and with a bipod that I had forgotten this and seeing how well you explained it was a LIGHTBULB MOMENT for me of why have I not been doing this and even when I have noticed that I struggle with good and consistent shoulder to butt contact... thanks! You really do teach well!

Agreed. My lightbulb moment was when he said it's hopping off to the left which is typical for a right handed shooter.

This actually really helped me! Ive been shooting s 270 win and have had trouble managing my recoil. I was hoping it was it just me not using proper form and technique. Thanks to this Ive been hitting my target with accuracy and consistency. Thanks a lot for the video!

I had to work through the exact problem you are describing about putting too much cheek pressure into the bag and having the rifle hop left. Unfortunately, having no one wiser than myself to teach me, probably ended up costing a few K in ammo before i was able to really break out of that technique.
Solid vid, good advice. Keep it rollin.

excellent tutorial! I like the simplicity of how you explained the "bridge" and the importance of the OFF hand in conjunction with the rifle butt. And the importance of going more medial with the butt. I practiced this last time at the range and it is so much more comfortable to shoot and WAY less wobble zone! I could see the impacts ALOT easier due to staying more centered on target!

My shooting style has changed somewhat since I left the military. I need to ask, are you placing the butt of the rifle on your pec/clavicle? Thanks again for the channel, more videos please Phil 👍

I use the same technique when I'm using a bipod and when I'm using my swagger shooting sticks that attach to my picatinny ill grab the sticks and pull the gun into my shoulder and lean down on my legs to build a base it makes the the shoot super steady using the sticks for when I coyote hunt and I'm in a chair. Very effective and nice video!

Dude I need to train. I did the infantry thing so m4 for 10 years, got my first long gun. Went to zero it today. Got like a 3 moa with just run of the mill pmc 147 grain in 308. I felt like I was muscling it originally then I remembered watching this. Thumb on the outside use should load bipod into the lip of the rest. My issue was it was jumping towards the right.

New subscriber this morning ... Im a bow hunter most of my life and over the last two years got more into rifle hunting and of course , accuracy is important but ive been ok with " MOB" (minute of baseball ) lol , for me thats meat on the table ...But ive gotten more into precision and have quite a few good high quality rifles and optics and I do well but at times just cant find my comfort zone behind the rifle which levels some inconsistency ... So many tips out there but your video just clicks . Nice and simple ... For me bipods are great but i prefer over my bag being that when hunting (or defense ) i may have to drop and engage so Ill alway have a backpack/bag so I train that way , on occasion with a bipod but mostly bag so without being able to give forward pressure on a bag part two hits home . Both sections of this video somewhat took some of the fog out of my head so to speak . Im heading out today with a friend to do some shooting so i will employ these tips . Thanks for the vid !!!

That's awesome! This will work when shooting off a pack prone too? How are you not bliking after the shot? I wouldn't say I flinch but I definitely blink even dry firing.

    • @toddb930
      @toddb930 Рік тому +1

Probably because Phillip has fired 100's of thousands of rounds and his body and brain are use to it.
You should be able to not blink while dry firing. Work on that first. A few thousand repetitions should help.

Don't know if you will answer but on the last shot at 625 or whatever, it appeared to me that you said hold over but the scope view on the last target seemed to illustrate hold under...am I missing something? Using the mil lines above the center of the crosshairs would be hold under, as in for a closer range than what is dialed, no?

    Hi,
I have a recoil problem. When im shooting prone, my recoil usually goes up to the left in a 45 degree. My body is square (shoulders, trunk and hips). The stock has contact with the collar bone. My head doesnt lean that much. I dont put much pressure with my cheek on the stock. I dont load the bipod but i use my shooting hand to pull the weapon into my shoulder. Any suggestions?

Just wonder after you load the bipod, using your shoulder pushing forward gently, take the shoot, does the center of the reticle where you aim from your scope moves (either left or right)? This is what I am talking about: ua-cam.com/video/isQiEsXNC_E/v-deo.html starting around 11:25 until about 13:00. The bipod doesn't seem moving by playing in slow speed. But I notice every shoots he took, the reticle jumps to the left or right bit. Does this also happen to you or something might be wrong? Thank you
