The point about the shades is a very good one. The beginning of the illusion is in full sun while the end is in shades from the trees. This clearly lasted more than a couple minutes.

Watched this when I was 13, last year of primary school..I record it on my phone that has TV and show it to my friends at school..it blew our mind
***Potential Spoilers***
There are in fact 4 people required for this trick, not 2.
- The initial guy and girl (guy1 and girl1) are actors and they have 100% normal bodies.
- There are 2 ''Torso'' doubles (guy2 and girl2). These are people that have only a torso and no legs. The actors and torso doubles look similar, of course.
- There are 2 sets of fake legs.
The act:
-Everyone there, including the spectators, are in on the act.
-The actors (guy1 and girl1) walk over as normal, with their normal bodies and lie on the bench. Notice how they stay lying down and never sit up. This is to allow a seamless cut to the body doubles.
- The actors are held by the spectators for a while during the phone-cam segments. It looks very natural on the phone cam.
********The camera cuts********
-Off screen, they are replaced by their counterparts. Each actor is replaced by their torso double and a set of fake legs. For the girl, I think this cut is at 1:51. They appear to be linked to the fake legs with some harness that Criss disconnects when he thumps their waist. This harness is needed because without it, the torso double and fake legs would not look connected like a single person... they would separate and it would look unusual to the viewer (YOU) - remember, everyone there including the spectators are in on this act. YOU are who this act is for... its not for any of those screaming spectators there.
*********************************
-They are separated.
-Notice the separated legs look very fake. They swing backwards and forwards to make them appear real, but the movement is very simple.
-The torso doubles scream and act dramatically. Their faces don't get much screen time because they are NOT the original actors. They look different, particularly the guy. Thats why he needs shades...He looks very different, pause the video to see.
-Focusing on the guy, Criss picks up the torso double (guy2) and puts him on the bench. At 2:16, notice how short his grey shirt is.. remember that for later.
********The camera cuts********
-Off screen, the original guy1 actor returns, however he has changed his clothes and now has a dress on. His shirt is also much longer and also cut at the back, i'll explain why.
*********************************
-His shirt is cut in a way that allows him to pin his shirt down to the bench at 2:40. He has a full body with his legs already in the dress and he's trying to hide that from the camera by pinning his shirt down and twisting his body so it looks like he's on the edge of the bench. Notice how much longer his grey shirt looks now compared to at 2:16.
Also, notice how the dress behind him is empty, hollow? Isn’t that strange? Well the dress is being supported by a frame to make it look independent of the guy... when in fact this is now the original actor with his legs already in the dress.
- Now for the dramatic 'Reconnect'. He simply lies down and the shirt falls over the dress so it looks normal. Well almost normal. At 2:51 look at the bottom of his shirt.. it looks like he's not inside it. Thats because its been cut open from the back to allow him to do the dramatic 'reconnect' move a few seconds before.
- The actor stands up and gets a few slaps and 'relax relax' from Criss because clearly he was overreacting with all that silence he was making.
- At 3:14 the guy actor is careful to hide his back as he steps into the cameras view. Showing his back would show his shirt has been cut and ruin a part of the illusion. Also note how long his shirt is again compared to 2:16. We are allowed to see the back of the girls shirt because she never have to do the dramatic lying down shot when her body 'reconnects' to her legs, so her top is untampered and seeing the back of it reassures us that their clothes are untampered.
Some people say that the trick is done with the torso-double balancing on-top of the fake legs at the end of the trick after being reconnected. This is not the case. You can blatantly see that the dude at the end is just dressed waist down as a woman. Obvious thing is obvious. Also from a realistic viewpoint, the human body requires a feedback mechanism from proprioception (balance) receptors in the lower limbs in order to provide fine-millisecond adjustments to balance itself.... a torso/double would not have this feedback and would therefore be unable to stand on fake legs even with a very strong harness.
I have no idea why I have spent so long writing this explanation. Time to close youtube and go to sleep. LOL

This is by far the funniest thing I’ve seen today
I love how he just walked away without switching them back.
He's performed this trick a few times. The first was with 1 person in which case he used an amputee and a contortionist as the legs walked around during the 1st performance. The audience member were also real. During this one he uses an amputee on mechanical legs. You can tell because prior to the "volunteer" laying down, the shadow cast by the garbage can is the only one in that area, where as after Criss begins performing the trick the garbage can is covered by the shadow of a tree. Therefore this trick was filmed at different times, meaning everyone is this video is an actor full aware of how the trick is being done.
Sorry, only just seeing this. The legs aren't mechanical, the legs are attached to people who are contorted under the benches for only half of the shots.

Its fake video editting not majic. Look at the shadow of the trees. It wasnt there before splitting but it came after splitting. The two seens recorded in different time to complete the full editting. Also, normal lows of physics requires that the legs will fall into the ground after splitting because of out of balance

I love magic! What an awesome trick! If anyone is wondering how. Pay attention to the shadows in the filming. This trick took a few hours as you can see the shadows of the trees closer to the benches when he pulled them apart! More camera tricks than anything else

Lol I know how this trick was done, four people were involved, the two "volunteers" are actors and are both amputees from the hips, the bottom halves of the two people are two more people, contortionists ( they can bend in ways normal people cannot ie through their own legs) they are positioned to make it look like they are just the bottom halves of a person, the two people are connected to each other via a simple connection that Criss disconnects when he taps the stomachs, note how the woman had to cross her legs? this was so that the people pulling her legs did not see the contortionist inside, when they were pulled apart the legs continued to move until the bottoms were switched when he tapped the stomachs again to reconnect the links, so many people don't know how this was done and now you all do, don't hate!

I don't doubt that contortionist might have been involved, but most probably it was a combination of that and video edition with some green screen as someone up in the comments suggested. At least the trick is not 3 minutes long as the shadows from the trees change dramatically one minute to the next.

if you freeze frame at 2:39 you will see that it is just a cut out (the man has no depth, like a cardboard cut-out). As for the audience, just paid extras or possible friends - they usually get them to sign non-disclosure agreements. I would blame the camera man on this, he should have stayed within the proper angles. Pretty good optical illusion though.

This is not an illusion, "An illusion is a distortion of the senses, revealing how the brain normally organizes and interprets sensory stimulation." The audience here are actors, they know how the trick works and are needed to set it up. It is just a bad video effect.

Also, the lower parts of the bodies change...when the woman gets the guys "legs" they are all of a sudden bigger and more fleshy... those are her own legs...and you can see it with the guy as well, as the legs in the skirt are a lot skinnier than they were when the woman had it on..!

Excellent trick. Transition at 2:45 is almost perfect except the legs on the right suddenly moving.Shadows of the stationary objects reveal the time between takes but it's unnoticeable unless you pause and inspect the frames so I think it's awesome work.Kudos!

In a minute or two...the tree's shadow DON'T travel that fast (approximately... 15 FEET) to cover the garbage can.
In the first 1 minute and 50 seconds, the garbage can was under DIRECT SUNLIGHT... and then suddenly it was under the TREES' SHADOWS.
There's passage of time here to set up the illusion. And if body parts gets separated like that, they would be dead and lots of blood around it. And no one can cut the body in half like that with just bare hands.
If its real, they would only use ONE CONTINUOUS CAMERA SHOT USING ONLY ONE CAMERA.

When I see the production team sitting there, with a notebook and chair, and a whole crew of cameramen then that's not magic. The magic is in the cutting room floor and editing.

1:47 the bench was NOT in the shadow of the tree. 1:53 the bench was in the tree shadow. This means they are separate takes filmed at different times of the day. The sun doesn’t lie!
Basically, everyone there is in on the trick. Probably a lot of Chris Angels friends. If you look at the woman when she's in 1/2, she doesn't look exactly the same. They probably used a couple of people. When he puts them back together, they are in their right bodies, but they've changed closes. The guys legs were thinner then the woman's, but not after they are put back together. You won't see this done out of the blue.
