I was stuck in a hospital bed almost a year ago. This tune a several others played by you fine musicians helped lift my spirits enough to help me recover. I got back home and learned to play this on my octave mandolin. What a joy this one is. Almost brings tears to my eyes.
beautiful piece of music.am learning this piece at a class for retired people who are learning music for first time.I play violin n try to play along.its so beautiful.thanks
Good tip, I use the 'slow downer' on UA-cam myself. Many music software bundles have a similar function built in. Check your computer... you may already have one and not know it... Thanks for viewing!
Stuche51 You are welcome, sorry I thought you were German. I love your version of Hewlett. It is so relaxing to listen to. I have added it to my O'Carolan playlist. 💕
Stuche51 It was the name that made me think it. I love the music of O'Carolan and am trying to learn to play some of his songs. How do you get such a clear tone on your mandolin?
One factor is the strings -- D'Addario exp75s medium heavy. Another is the pick -- a Gator 2mm. I also use good mics when I record. So that clean tone is exactly how the mandolin sounds.
Hi, a very nice cover and clean mandolin playing. Could you please tell me how do you record your playing and then put the recordings together? I would like to do the same with my instruments.
+Maky Tondr I record into a Yamaha MD8 and mix the song down after transferring the individual tracks to Cubase LE on my Mac. This is the short version...
I started with the basic melody, memorized it, embellished it with some ornaments and then practiced it until it became this arrangement. Of course I use my ear to tell me if I like what I'm playing! Thanks for viewing and commenting...
This video was originally posted at the Song A Week social club on Mandolin Cafe. The members were interested in seeing a clear view of the mandolin while the tune was played in order to better learn the tune. I rarely use the view where my head is cut off anymore. Thanks for your comments and viewing my video.

I'm twelve years late to the party, but this is a terrific performance of Hewlett.
Glad you could make it, there really is no time limit on these really old songs... thanks for viewing and your comment is so welcome.

A very nice tune, nicely played. A hint for those trying to play it: Slow it down by clicking the gear icon at the bottom of the page.

Funny thing, I was born in Germany, but left for the US when I was 6 months old.

I love this. Is this version tab available?
Thanks! No tab for my version which I worked out in my head, but plenty of tabs out there for the basic melody.
Beautiful to listen to. Well played and arranged. Did you previously record your guitar playing. One of his best tunes.
I recorded the mandolin first and then the guitar track. Thanks for viewing!

My dad has this ringtone and my last name is hewlett
Very nice...
This is slightly different than the music sheet I have seen. What were you using? Just your ear?
Whatever, this was great!

@@Stuche51 Thank you!
Hello which pick do you use ? Beautiful sound !
I use a Gator pick which I polish and shape with steel wool and fine sandpaper. It's the 2mm one. I have a UA-cam video on how I shape them...
Stuche51 I looked at your videos but I couldn't find the one where you explained how to shape the pick, could you show me which one it is ? Thank you
So sorry but that video seems to have disappeared from my UA-cam. I'll see if I can find it and reload it to my videos...
Stuche51 that would be great, I would love to see how you do and which corner and side of the pick you shape
Beautiful tune I Knew it. Is better to play seeing your face...is strange don't see the face who is playing...
