This was the song that brought me back to Bruce’s music a few years ago when a friend sang it. I’m so glad he did! I went straight to UA-cam and discovered so much that I had missed back in the day. I’m so glad I’m able to see and hear Bruce still working his magic while both of us are still here. Greensboro last year was AMAZING!!!!❤️
Saw him perform the first time on The River tour. All of the emotions and all the years since with no words to adequately describe somehow are expressed in that outro.
I recomend "empty sky" the live in barcelona(dvd) version. It will make you cry. It's about 9/11 and it mostly just him & his wife playing the song. He does the oooh oooh parts in that song too just like the end of this one

I totally agree that Bruce was the best performer ever………but on the other hand I won’t visit a concert anymore. I’ve been there several times but last year I went and he has become more fragile……power in his voice is gone. Still beautiful songs but I want to remember Bruce like I saw him in 2016 in the Hague, Netherlands.
Lovely, but I also liked the version he did last summer, where the ending went on even longer and involved us singing along stronger and for longer (at least in Gothenburg and Copenhagen)! Does anyone remember?

It's called "keening." It's "wailing in grief." Given the tears and his unwillingness to let go of the song, that was some very deep grief coming out of him.

Magnificent. I do love the mournful harmonica solo he sometimes does at the end though, for example when he played the song at Glastonbury 2009.
