As overwatch has evolved, the hype around plays has lessened as more “cool” plays become common till a point where they are truly just expected. An unfortunate result of people eventually getting too good at a game
I had an Ana yell at me for not eating every single grav as Dva. It's insane what people expect nowadays.

At 7:36 you can see a real gamer that went 31/27 (2) in a single day thats 60 games in one day, i cant get through more than 8 games these days
that was also when control was bo5 so games were significantly longer

for those who didnt understand the eichenwalde bridge grav clip, he winston jumped into the grav mid air (preventing his team from getting gravved) and thus him tanking it

xQc had great Winston skills but Miro in his early OW days and the world cup was a complete different beast.
Even tho I got to high elo quick, he showed me how insane players get and that im just another noob compared to these guys.

Crazy that a year later, Overwatch 2 and I hear "We're getting Orisa's old pull back next week" got me excited until I saw the date this video was released. I'd like them to test some old kits in OW2. I don't wanna go back to OW1 necessarily but I'd like to have a week or even a weekend where we get to play it again now that we've had ow2 for over a year

@@ashtonellwood1925 a bit late on the reply but it took super 3 years to catch up to xqcs level when xqc quit playing. You can see in a clip in this video also that xqc would grind out 60 games a stream. Those games still had best of 5 capture point instead of best of 3 which made the games a lot longer too. He has such an insane amount of time that i dont even have half of his playtime and i started playing in season 4
I honestly didn't remember about world cup until you said that lol. Team USA vs Canada was always epic!
Really good observations about how hype plays in the past are seen as normal today. Tbh we're living in a gold age of awesome OW players and games too... but it feels less hype and fresh. I also hope new OW2 content including co-op brings back the freshness and energy, and we can enjoy learning together as a community again!

@@MattyPraps1234 It was the best. Literally the biggest issue with Overwatch is that it's clearly designed to be played with people who actually want to win and are all on the same page.
Role queue is a cure to solo queing. Even if you wanted to restrict people to 2-2-2 (or 2-1-2 now) there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to let my Rein main swap off heals with me and take his role.

i'm new to overwatch (overwatch 2 is the first fpspvp i've played), and i feel the hype over good plays lol. i'm not very good and only do quickplay, but when someone does something cool or people combo ults (on my team or the enemy's) i start screaming/laughing and it's so fun.

What mad man thinks the open-Q was in any way good? The only thing I remember is 5 dps on your team and the enemy team with a tank and a support diffing everyone. It was the most frustrating and unballanced games ever, not to mention the 6 support mains on one team (I never had that problem cuz I was silver).
it was definitely more interesting with how dynamic comps could be. role queue just gives us double shield
@@fredericabernkastel8354 You’ll still have heals and tanks. Interesting or not, I’d way rather have matches that are 2-2-2 with double shield any day every day instead of having to gamble if my team will have no heals or tanks.

I remember the most common 1 tank 3 dps 2 healers on both teams and I would be the tank and get absolutely shredded and focused down by the other teams triple dps because I had no offtank lmao. That was by far the vast majority of games.
