Good to see you were fit in the right specs, must be excited to know you have 10-15 more yards in the bag, What does a session like that cost? That cannot be cheap!
I've optimized my driver distance the past 3 seasons by doing 1 simple/cheap thing. Every range session, every time I swing driver I spray the face with foot powder spray ...which tracks ball impact on the club face. I've dialed in my set up and tee height, currently working on hitting up more.
Playing casual rounds I use a whiteboard marker so there's a nickel-sized spot that transfers to the driver face -- helps to see if anything is drifting on the course. not sure if it'd be legal in a tournament?
Pretty cool but would have been better to see stock shafts with your head vs a few different upgraded shafts to see the performance difference with your swing.
@@mh_golfer Every time I think the problem is my club (any club in the bag), I let my pro hit my club. He usually looks at it, shakes his head, and says let me see what you got here. He then proceeds to stripe it down the middle and says, “I think the club is okay.”
One thing that I didn't see mentioned, I was playing a 10 year old Tour driver with a 430cc head. This year, I picked up a Callaway Rogue ST Max LS with the 460cc for a bit more forgiveness. It played well, but my swing speed dropped a couple MPH. A few weeks ago, I found the Callaway Rogue ST 💎 💎 💎 S with the 440cc head and picked that speed back up.
you realize companies are pushing more forgiving drivers just because the cat is out the bag on them improving distance lol. armatures not going to benefit from 5-10 yards less slice it will still be in the woods lol.
Love it. I picked up my swing speed from 92 to 98mph, which resulted in more spin in my driver. I now have an 11 degree PXG 0311 gen 5 with 2.5gr of weight in the heel and toe and 5gr in the back. Giving me 14 degree launch and 2500rpm back spin, from 17 and 3200rpm. Resulting in 220-240 carry and 240-260 roll out (depending on conditions), an increase of 20 yards. My swing path is still somewhat out to in (0.5-2•), but we have all winter to work on that. More importantly, I’m now hitting 78% fairways, from 64% fairways. Hopefully we’ll get to 85% fairways next summer. I work with the Garmin R10 mainly, taking it on course, using my gaming ball, as the driving ranges here in the Netherlands almost all use mats and range balls, which can really mess up these numbers (though not as much with driver).
WOW Matt, just wow!!! How incredible is that robot and the engineering to manufacture it? Great content/information as always👍 Now do it again with the Elite 😉
Thank you very much, MrLongDriveChef 🙃 I find this robot videos very insightful. If you happen to film with the robot again, here are some ideas that could be tested: - How forgiving are so-called "game improvement" irons really, when compared to a muscle back? - As the robot can create all that, how much does the release pattern affect the club head speed, i.e. if you are properly casting the club and then change to a "correct" release, how much difference does that make? - If you fit a driver for a fade but then hit a draw with it, will the draw actually be longer?
Interesting stuff. So these guys could produce a huge chart of numbers based on all of these swing factors, different heads, shafts, loft and lie configurations and strike points. And if so, then a golfer could put in their numbers from a quality launch monitor and have it tell you the best driver for your swing. In theory. There's money to be made there. A golfer could not test this many combinations without fatigueing badly. Interesting that Matt would likely hook it badly with the Smoke Max on a toe banger.
Some of us in other parts of the world do not have the luxury of a place to have a fitting and are lucky to have a limited rack. Most of the clubs I buy are off the web.
This is a good way to end up with the wrong driver. The entire purpose of a good professional fitting is to unlock potential in the swing by changing components. Not simply to keep the same swing dynamics and see what works best for that. We all will react to different changes in a club and those reactions can produce different swing dynamics. Those changes can be good or bad. At that point we have a good idea of what direction to go in. A robot will simply swing your swing and ignore any provoked changes the equipment may have made.
awesome vid, but i gotta say i'm not surprised at the final result. And it's primarily because i feel like Mr. Shortgame is a tinkerer, much like myself, and even without the aid of fancy simulators, he'd find his way into something that works best for him, given enough resources. And there's no denying that positive AOA is HUGE! If everyone could do that they'd probably gain 20-30 yards. Having said that, i do believe that if a set-up is close, better players will tend to slightly adjust their own swings to accommodate a club. Assuming it's somewhat close. Just my opinion, of course.
This is soooooo cool!!! I love Gene…feel like I’m watching QVC! LOL…though he could probably be a stand in for Rick Hoffman in Suits as Louis Litt! LOL…
I would really like to see them go further in the testing with different shaft weights and flexes. I think this is were you'll see more changes in distance.
I'd like to know if the club heads were measure for the actual loft angles or not vs. just what was written on the head. Your 9.5* could have been closer to an 8.5* and the 10.5* could have been over 11*+ depending on tolerances of manufacturing.
you know he's old school when he ends the video with "if you hit it on the screws." For you young pups, that's a persimmon driver reference to when there were actually screws in the middle of the club face, and when you caught it there, the ball just went LONG, and you knew it immediately.
This was an excellent resource to confirm the need for an expert fitting. Yes, as Callaway is “sort of” sponsoring this, it is a valuable tool for you BUT, would you have been offered other manufacturers if there were other options?
Very interesting. I switched to the Ping 430 10k and I just hit awful. I need to get fit and go back to Callaway which I hit for years Epic and Rogue. Costly mistake which is a real hit to the pocket!!
Ping swing weights are so heavy. You get the wrong shaft and you could be swinging a hammer without knowing it. I had similar issues. Got the swing weight sorted and fixed the control issues. It’s a great driver but tough if you don’t get fit.
So as a 3 hc it looks like my max ls with ventus velcore 6s is not the tightest dispersion club head i should be playing. Stupid callaway rep screwed me. Dam.
Interesting video MSG but I may have missed the point in that the robot merely confirmed your driver fitting was correct. When I had my driver fitting a trackman was used and I tested different heads and shafts.
Hey there Matt! What happened to the club visit video at the Olympic club? I wanted to watch that as I played yesterday (79 woohoo) and wanted some inside course info. Love your channel buddy.
I took my 20 year old driver with a cut down 43” shaft with me to a fitting so I could compare it with the new stuff. When it was over the shop pro asked me if I wanted pay $500 for an extra 5 yards.
I had almost the same experience…every club i tried was no better than my 10 year old driver. I was thinking, I’m not buying anything..why should I if the new ones are no better? Then we tried the driver I have now, and instantly, I was hitting 20 yards further! Sold!!
Normally love this stuff but this is 15 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. Interesting that there was no mention of shaft impact that I can recall
The day will come when you walk into a fitting. Swing a few swings with a generic club of each club type and 30 seconds later it will print out your ideal bag from driver to putter. Actually the clubs will probably monitor your game then download to your computer and it will 3D print a new set while you sleep for your next round.

His was atrocious before but he’s worked on it and it looks pretty decent now…. It think
@@rickhunter6513 True. I was shocked when I saw him in a more recent video. His swing is much improved.
His swing has tremendously improved including his composure. He's more confident now after every swing.
I don't care who you are, that's hilarious. Funniest thing I've heard in a long time, thanks for the laugh.

I use powder spray. The tapes get tedious. I don't see where this robot thing can dial in your score or hitting. We are not robots.
Awesome!! Keep working at it. I did that several years ago and it really has changed my game off the tee! Hope you get the same.
Playing casual rounds I use a whiteboard marker so there's a nickel-sized spot that transfers to the driver face -- helps to see if anything is drifting on the course. not sure if it'd be legal in a tournament?
Cool video. I wanted to see a driver right off the rack of the pro shop versus the fitted version.
This is genius! So happy that you got to do this, MSG!
loving the additional detailing of what all the robot can do to adjust to mimic a person's swing!
Pretty cool but would have been better to see stock shafts with your head vs a few different upgraded shafts to see the performance difference with your swing.
Exactly what I was thinking
@@to6etherwego same here.

Love to see a $10 stock shaft against the 350$
One of the most informative videos for understanding driver fitting!

That machine is amazing. From what I understand, Gene is the inventor of the robot. His robots keep getting more advanced.
The future of remote fittings.
Maybe you should test different shaft lengths to optimize more center hits. Really enjoy your content.
What about the shaft ... how would that affect your distance and dispersion?

I want a robot now
Here I am, thinking my remote control cart is cool. Not so…
Kilroy.
It can’t replicate a swing as bad as yours….
As an athletic nerd and strength coach/biomechanics guy, this was excellent.
It is crazy how far our tech has come that the robot can so easily replicate our average shots!
Mr Short game always love the videos! Good stuff🏌🏿♂️

Club fitting is the only way to buy golf clubs. Excellent video Matt.
Conclusion. Have the robot play your round of golf for you.
thats great Lots of possibilities for fittings Guess it would be expensive to do it
Good stuff Matt 🏌️♂️
I want that robot. It can tee off for me every round 😂 Great video
shorten the shaft a little to hit the screws
The stretch got me to subscribe.
This is fantastic.
Good 15 minute advertisement for the Foresight
I don't understand - the MAX ended up with a bigger dispersion (left miss) vs the 3D on toe hits? I thought the max should have been more forgiving?
8:20 "going to use the heads from Callaway "
What if Taylor Made or Mixuno or Bang is right head for your game.....?
I would really like to see them go further in the testing with different shaft weights and flexes. I think this is were you'll see more changes in distance.

Great video Matt. Jealous of the +5 degree launch angle you are adding. Have you done a video on how you do it?
Of course we will!
What about testing different shafts? As we all know hit it square in the center and you will maximize distance.
You would have to make sure all shafts are spined/pured/flowed ...they all mean the same thing just different words different club builders use
what if the robot just powers itself off?
does it have a knee? Is there a lake nearby?
you know he's old school when he ends the video with "if you hit it on the screws."

Funny that the robot was hitting a fade with “your swing.”
To be fair the robot was on an assembly line not long ago.
The even more strange thing is, this dude was saying he was hitting a nice high draw. Re-watch MSG shots. He was hitting a fade 😂
@@shmirginhymer1867 one was from data, the other was a shot tracer, I’d trust the data over a shot tracer
@nateyeight. True. But IF the tracer was accurate, I'd trust the real world over calculated numbers.

Hey, do you have any experience with "Newton" shafts for drivers? Do they really make a difference?

Exactly
This video is frickin cool.
At 3:18 the whole unit moves during the swing....that cannot be good, can it???
I hope this robot makes an appearance at the PGA Show for Demo day next month! Thanks Matt, excellent video!

I think this means that it's a better idea to spend your discretionary golf $$$ on lessons than on equipment.

That's Vista Valley CC and it's private. Not just anyone can go there.

Hey there Matt! What happened to the club visit video at the Olympic club? I wanted to watch that as I played yesterday (79 woohoo) and wanted some inside course info. Love your channel buddy.
This video was tremendous.
I'm confused because it said you had a draw bias but majority of your shot trackers were fades to right.Tracer error?
Putting the robot on my Christmas list. I just need to figure out cost and the logistics of getting it from tee box to tee box. :)
I took my 20 year old driver with a cut down 43” shaft with me to a fitting so I could compare it with the new stuff. When it was over the shop pro asked me if I wanted pay $500 for an extra 5 yards.

Don't forget the theory of relativity - 5 more yards and driving it 260 and 5 more driving it 200 is not the same.
They should have shown a launch monitor and ball dispersion with the different heads imo.
You can do it short game. Hit it on the screws!
Normally love this stuff but this is 15 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. Interesting that there was no mention of shaft impact that I can recall
Shaft is more important...test that!
Ok that was pretty cool
Now THAT'S the future, where in the UK can I get it?
Did he draw the ball? I thought it was a fade?
The robot cannot replicate my swing which has too many moving parts, not in the right order. Great video.
Would be nice to do the same testing with a mid and higher handicap player. I'm guessing they're not as dialed in.
Very good
That's a good idea and a perfect result... But only for the head to find. The robot fails if there has to be figured out the right shaft...
How did the "more forgiving" Smoke head hook it 22 yds left? Where's the forgiveness factor?
I imagine that soon AI will duplicate your swing while you wait and pick a shaft/head combo for you.
I would like to see the robot replicate a high handicap swing. Robot hitting it thin or chunking it
can you pull it with a cart?
I seen 3 out of 5 fade arguably slice not draw
The 10.5 would be more forgiving on mishits
So you’re not with PXG anymore?
The day will come when you walk into a fitting. Swing a few swings with a generic club of each club type and 30 seconds later it will print out your ideal bag from driver to putter. Actually the clubs will probably monitor your game then download to your computer and it will 3D print a new set while you sleep for your next round.
As a keen golfer, would it not have been better to get someone whose club is not ‘optimised’?
I tweak my swing every time I play. And that’s going on for 30 years. Good luck with my fitting. 😂
Must be nice to have a perfect swing...
If that was me, he would program the robot to slice and top the ball.
