Derek, I for one am glad to see you get back to the "will it run" series, segments, whatever. These are really cool and this is what got me hooked on your channel, quite some time ago actually. Keep bringing the thunder buddy.
@@michaellee6489 if a flag was displayed vertically, on a horizontal pole mounted to a wall, one could be on either side of it so from one side, the blue field would appear on the top right, and moving to the other side, the blue field would appear on the top left. Not thinking there's any particular message intended... If it were ups
So I hooked my peepers on this series and haven't been able to stop watching them. I start an episode and it's like movie night at my house. Derek is genuine and hilarious with his commentary. He's got my whole shop using his lines. Thanks for all you do and keep the content coming!
I've had one of the worst days of my life and I happened to hop on UA-cam to get my mind off things and this totally turned everything around. You're a gifted dude Derek. Thank you for what you do.
I owned a1969 Mercury Marquis. Best two block long, ten ton tank of a car ever. Got 6 gallons to the mile and had a 1/4 mile time of 2 days. Get that pile of steel up past 50 mph and then floor it. Absolute terror and joy as you wondered if your car and health insurance were payed up.
I've got to be honest here. I appreciate DB is ambitious and wants to do the right thing by his family, hence the direction the channel is taking these days , but the back from the grave, run and drive videos are what I started watching VGG for back yonder. Keep 'em coming.
by far the hardest part of fasting is the boredom. If you've never done a multiday fast, you have no idea the enormous amount of your daily time is spent thinking about, preparing, or eating food. Depending on your lifestyle, it can be really hard to fill all that extra free time. If you want a fast to be easy, start it when you are very busy
In the UA-cam automotive world, it doesn't get any better than Derek! This guy is a genuinely hard working, old-school mechanic with down home values! He may add a little corn for entertainment, but he's 100% authentic! And if you watch his stuff, not only will you have a good time, get a few laughs, but you will learn a thing or two about cars that are slowly going away. Many mechanics these days won't work on a carburetor, they don't know how to set points, and they are slowly forgetting what a timing light is. It's fun to work on these cars! It reminds me of better days, sitting in the garage with my pop working on his El Camino or my mom's Oldsmobile. By the time I was in highschool I could do all the basic maintenance on top of change all the fluids, change and rotate tires, do full tune ups - plugs, wires, belts, oil, even blades! I could rebuild a carburetor just sitting at the kitchen table. Damn those were good times! Thanks Derek! You're content is unmatched! 👍🙂❤️
I was a Gm tech for about 20 years. His terminology is spot and most times next level. His ability to brush off everything going wrong as expected though and maintaining the illusion of “this is fine”…damn.
It’s great. If I have a car issue I have gained some good knowledge from him. Have a 73 Mach 1 and know I can use some of this advice. Well, I saw him sand a car with a cinder block once. Maybe not that..! Lol
He is sure a good fellow and belongs in Tennessee s well. I have some great friends in Centreville on Blue Buck Mountain. I was like him before I got into an auto parts business. A lot easier for sure. Now in Florida I can watch him and it is great. Ray C
I started watching when the ol blue 79 Camaro revival came out. I was laying in a hospital bed and it popped up on my feed and 78-81 Camaros are my favorite. I was hooked from the second it started playing. Thank you for your dedication and hard work and for being you Derek. I love seeing your family involved, that just makes it so much better. Here's to many more years! This is the only channel I have multiple shirts and items from. Best on UA-cam and best in the good ol U-S of A
This was the first VGG video I watched. Got totally hooked after this one. Since then, I have watched pretty much all the rest of them! Good way to spend the winter.
Found the channel right at the beginning of the pandemic, I was happier than a pig in shit being able to binge watch every episode but nearly cried when I finished them all. Derek is the best!
Having surgery done tomorrow and let me tell you Derek, it is no fun being here in the hospital. Your channel has kept my mind in good spirits! Thank you buddy!! All I wish is a double cheeseburger, some good elephant fries and a cold one! But, you can't have it all sometimes. Thank you for the videos! Do appreciate them whole heartedly!! A shout out to your wonderful family!!!😁👍
I know what you mean Danny. These videos (and the great coldwarmotors) kept me company during my own surgery recuperation this past Spring. All the best to you on your recovery.
Been waiting for these to return:) don't get me wrong, love the engine swaps and the meets and all the workshop videos, but the will it run and drive videos are the best 👌
I have to agree. I came upon Derek when he rescued 'Betty White' and have watched all his rescues since. Meets don't float my boat but, somehow Derek can make them interesting 👍👍
Thanks for these amazing videos! I’ve been in the auto repair industry for 25 years now. I’ve been feeling burnt out and completely sick of my career lately. This was just what I needed to refresh my spirits. Really appreciate you man
My husband and I love your channel Derek. My husband never misses a video you put out. No matter what he's doing he has to put your channel on. He loves what you do and the way you do it and the reasons you do it. He always says... There should be more fellas in this world like this fella. He always ends his comments with... keep On Motoring Brother. Because you remind him of his younger brother that passed away last year. His brother watched your channel as well. They were very close brothers. Either one of them would have done whatever it takes to help the other. I didn't know his brother that well. But what I did know of him. I can surely see why my husband appreciates your channel. You remind him a lot of his brother. His brother was quite the comedian when he wanted to be. Sorry for such a long comment. And with as many subscribers that you have. I'm sure you probably won't even get a chance to read this. But I had to get it out there. My husband isn't the crying type of man. But a few of your videos, I believe when your brother appeared in them my husband literally turned his head as he was watching the video. I know he dropped tears in memory of his brother. He always tells me that he will be a lifetime subscriber to your channel. And that you're the only one that he feels is worth the little bit of money to become a member. I love this man with all my heart. He's done more for me in the last 5 years then my ex-husband did for me in 28 years. It makes me feel good inside knowing that there are good men in this world and they can make you feel more than what you really are everyday. Keep up the wonderful channel Derek for I know my husband will watch every video you put out and he tries to comment on every video you put out, as well as shares your channel everywhere he can and he tells all his friends and family to watch your channel and to subscribe to your channel. He says, if there's anyone thats a UA-camr deserves the subscribers you have, it is surely you. I want to say... Thank you for being who you are sir. More people in this world like you would make this world a hell of a lot better. Excuse my expression with the word hell. And your wife seems like a total sweetheart. And you have some great boys. Your wife and yourself are doing a wonderful job with those boys. We both enjoy your channel but really enjoy when the whole family's involved. It's nice to see a family come together and do things together and create memories. As my husband would say... Keep On Motoring Brother sir. Well I added the sir part. Lol Thank you for being you Derek!!!
I was laughing so hard at you when you were in the car wash and the car wash kept screaming at you to back up! So funny! I do love your revivals, thanks for bringing them back. Looking forward to all the ones you have filmed for us!
Ha ha. That me laugh too because I recently had the same thing happen at a car wash. The car in front of me got stuck and the mechanism that pulls you along kept ramming me into the car in front of me, and the sign kept yelling at me to back up!!
When I come back to watch some of your older videos Derek, This is one of my all time favourites. Its the car wash part for me, gets me every time, thanks for being awesome!
Ditto. Derek has a large repository of fine stories, tales of derring do & stickabilit. My favourite, of those i can remember, is The Salvation of Betty White. A car so long that it could double as an aircraft carrier deck in an emergency. As I recall, this old lady had been abandoned in a field & had suck to its axles. Drove out of its own grave. Derek & family later took a road trip in Betty White. When new, it’d been a very attractive vehicle.
As soon as you showed the trailer hitch I said to myself "blowing smoke and no compression from the rear cylinder". My dad kept buying these Ford station wagons in the '70s with a big V8 engines to tow a pop up trailer and about 8 kids from central Florida to the California desert and back again for summer vacation. Every time when he'd get back it would have a rough idle and blowing smoke. He didn't know anything about cars so he would blame me for ruining his beautiful car simply by pointing these things out to him. The good thing was I could always keep it running somehow, usually by changing the rear plugs or cleaning the points. I was surprised when you started driving it back without changing the exhaust manifold gasket or at least draining the old gas out of the tank. I would have been pulled over at least 5 times for noise and smoke violations. Great videos.
I ALWAYS look forward to the part of your rescue missions where you describe the smell when you open the door. It's never gonna smell like nothing; ALWAYS gonna smell like something, and it's ALWAYS gonna be pungent. They are never the same, totally random combinations, and hilarious.
This is your bread & butter ! I'm a Ford guy but an older guy. I love the revivals, don't care of the brand. So much fun to watch an old car come back to life ! Rock on ...
iHAVVVE A 93 cADULLAC feb AND IT IS A LAND YACHT i wouldn't drive it 60miles but I will drive to the beach this winterI'll wear my VGG hat and see if anyone notices
Had a 72 Linc MkIV and a 77 Buick Electra (basically a Coup DeVille) for a number of years. 460 in the Lincoln, 403 Olds in the Buick. Great to drive on the highway.
So glad that you've returned to bringing a rig back from the dead and driving it X amount of miles home! These are the videos that got me to subscibe to your channel! I love'em!!!!
Hi, joel from Montreal here. I just love those boats! Can you imagine that my 1995, 7 tons, 29 feet Winnebago Brave has the same motor? 😄 Amasing that they use to put so much cubic inches in some cars... Keep on giving us more oldies rescue stories!
Thanks for still making these videos Derek, love it, ill be a fan for life, not sure how many years you are planning to keep doing this but I love watching the process, please keep making these videos, this is the best part of VGG
Nice to see you making a video that gets back to the content that got you to where you are today, this is the type of thing I started watching you for!!
I love this guy and he knows that a 1972 460 plant will fire up and run fine. Big C-6 transmission, 9.3/8"rear, solid automobile. The car is designed for long-distance reliability. In comfort! I still think about a 1971 Continental that a client sold to me for $ 1 dollar. Evicted the ground-chucks, and drove it for a year. I'm 60yrs and live in Michigan, can't find them anymore. That engine & transmission went on to power a "74" Gran Torino and then a "good" Cobra replica. Nice Mercury, good job. J.
Pleased that you are back doing revivals. They are your best work. I really didn't think the Merc would make it home but the 460 held up. Would be interested in seeing you bring the engine back to all 8 cylinders purring away. Thanks for an entertaining evening.
Man I really love these videos. I haven't sat down in front of my TV with a smile on my face like this in a real long time and I'm only 5 minutes into the video. Thank you so much!
I had a bit of an anxiety attack at first, thinking this may have been the exact same car I had in 1983-1987. Close, but not quite as mine had the 429. Still, it's so nice to see the old girl again and it brings back so many memories and "firsts" I had in that car as a 19 year old man,... Thanks Derek. This one is my favorite!
I was so excited to see a new car and a new adventure!!! I’m totally looking forward to all of the revivals coming up Guys! As much as I love all of your other content as well, I’m so ready to get back to vintage VGG revivals. Just one man, one machine, and a dream. What more could a fella (or fellette), ever want?
My dad had 2 of these, when he crashed the first one he got another one 2 years later and had it painted the same color as the original one he had. He loved that car, the 460 was great and needed to haul that much luxury around. Sweet find!!
Nice seeing another land yacht back on the road! As the owner of a '76 Marquis and a '79 Lincoln it's nice seeing other folks take interest in these big old cars.

First time watching your rescue video. I really miss what Freiburger & Finnegan did on Roadkill, this is such a good ol' honest approach to car rescuing. I got to learn some technical speak also, lol.
I’m glad you showed us how you got those windows down! I was shocked at how easily you could push them down with your hand! Congratulations on making another successful recovery and a safe drive home! Really enjoy your channel! Keep up the AWESOME JOB!!!!
We had a 72 ford galaxie 500 4 dor hardtop with a 351W. Complete junk, from the time it was designed until it started to rust out at 2 yrs old. We kept it until it wouldn't keep oil pressure. Then sold it to a used car dealer as a winter beater, just to get rid of it.
very happy you're sticking with the UA-cam videos even though you're on tv now. I really enjoy the way you produce content. keep up the good work Derek and congrats on the new show!!!
That mercury deserves a ground up restoration in every aspect. It would be kinda cool to see a video on the tear down and rebuild of the 460 big block too.
That Z28 in the background just made me smile, what a beautiful car. Reminds me of my step-dad so much. Thank you for providing such amazing content Derek, we greatly appreciate your time and personality. Keep on chargin-whirlin!
being following VGG for about a year now and every video is better than the last one, it makes me remember my younger years back in cuba where old cars and no tools where everything we have, good job
I saw something a few years ago where a guy was making a book about all the Cuban homemade/repurposed stuff, inventions and all other sorts of craftsmanship that Cubans in need came up with. A AA battery charger, a motorcycle built with a washing machine motor and tons of other genius stuff. I'm sure there was a ton of knowledge passed down!
No one cares how long you have been following. Does that make you a higher rank that someone who just found this channel? I don't think so buddy!!! Get outta here
Your reaction when the water jets hit the car was priceless, actually the whole car wash was hilarious 🤣. You can’t beat classic American cars Derek, you know that. Especially a boat like that. That car was luxury back in its prime. I hope you or someone you know will bring it back to it’s glory. It’ll be a good looking car!!! 👍
Who else gets excited everytime you see a new will it run video from vgg just knowing your gonna get to see dereks top tier quality commentary of looking at a vehicle for the first time the ill be dipped gets me every time
Derek on UA-cam, or watch TV? No contest - Derek every time!! Such great entertainment, even for those of us who aren't fully clued up on mechanical matters. As for comedy moments in this episode, at 14:37 - 'Look at my face' - had me laughing out loud! But you have such a NICE face to look at, Derek! xx
Hey Derek - Objectively these have to be a beast to edit even just on the length of the content alone let alone everything that goes into making these. I hope you know the effort is well appreciated! this one was a sweet one.
Someone probably already said it: the transmission modulator valve (right rear above the pan) has a rubber diaphragm that will get old and the engine will suck up the fluid through a vacuum line behind the carb 😅. Love that old Mercury - would buy it myself if I was in the country :)😊. Btw, those windows motors, if I remember right 😅, have some plastic dowel pins that fall apart and are super cheap to replace
Great advice but the smell of burning atf and motor oil are very different and it wouldn't foul only 1 or 2 cylinders or plugs it would be all of em unless that's manifold vacuum pulling atf from the module
@@mobygodfrey4936 Yeah, doubtful that the vacuum modulator if leaking would cause 3 cylinders to be dead, also the oil residue on the plugs is obviously oil. But the fact that the trans seems to have lost fluid might mean that diaphragm is leaking too.
Enjoyed the show so much as always ! My Dad had the exact same rig . When he was killed in 1990 , my brother and I went and got it ...... the car is a great reminder of my Dad , he was like you Derek - loved to fix up older rigs . You & this episode flooded my head with those old , loving memories with my Dad !! Thank-You for what you do for us fans 💗 PS - This is a Great car -- if you could keep it & restore it as much ass possible / Dad would be happy !! xo
Been watching for a few years. Thanks for all the solid entertainment and laughs Derick. Also you went right past where I grew up as a kid! Pretty cool to see
That is absolutely the most badass car ever on this show and maybe ever. Even the 4 door makes it look cool, no hubcaps, raised white letters. I would never have thought it would look better w/o fender skirts! A crate (n0n-smog) 460 and trans rebuild - possibly the best car ever. If I weren't bankrupt from my other classic gems I'd love to have it but as we know, even if it's free, they cost a fortune to own. But thanks a million for this show!
Hell yeah! My Dad had a 70 for a while. It was about 11 years old and looked like it just left the showroom. It wasn't a boat, it was a SHIP!!! Dark Ivy color with a dark green interior, and white vinyl top. 429 automatic, with that embroidered cloth on the seats. A finer automobile of excess never existed, not even a cadillac. It was like riding along in your living room. That was after having a 1976 Lincoln MARK 4. A 460 powered behemoth of a two door. White with metallic blue leather.

Agree.
@@michaellee6489 if a flag was displayed vertically, on a horizontal pole mounted to a wall, one could be on either side of it so from one side, the blue field would appear on the top right, and moving to the other side, the blue field would appear on the top left. You and Derek sound like long lost cousins. :)
I've got to be honest here. I appreciate DB is ambitious and wants to do the right thing by his family, hence the direction the channel is taking these days , but the back from the grave, run and drive videos are what I started watching VGG for back yonder. Keep 'em coming.
I would personally love to see a rebuild of that 460. Loves the videos! Keep it up!
You know Derek makes great videos when he makes an hour and a half video about a car I couldn’t care less about and I watch the whole thing!
by far the hardest part of fasting is the boredom. If you've never done a multiday fast, you have no idea the enormous amount of your daily time is spent thinking about, preparing, or eating food. 👍🙂❤️

That was so sweet and I hope Derek reads it.

That car sat 32yrs, I am impressed everything held up so well. My grandparents had a 1973 LTD 351w and they drove it from new until around 1990 also.
Love the other content you guys do but these "will it run and drive 500 miles home" vids will always be my favorite! 😎👍
oh, yeah. The over-produced shows try to create suspense. It's built into these, factree.

I love this guy and he knows that a 1972 460 plant will fire up and run fine. Big C-6 transmission, 9.3/8"rear, solid automobile. The car is designed for long-distance reliability. In comfort! That engine & transmission went on to power a "74" Gran Torino and then a "good" Cobra replica. Nice Mercury, good job. J.

I've seen the pictures and videos of all the old 50's cars in Cuba.

Hey Derek -
Objectively these have to be a beast to edit even just on the length of the content alone let alone everything that goes into making these.
I hope you know the effort is well appreciated! this one was a sweet one.
One of a kind baby yeeaay. Btw I told my wife the other day that I love you. She said she does too so we're good!
Great piece of advice, would be nice if that was the plug fouling and smoke trail problem.
It certainly could well be!!👏👏
Great advice but the smell of burning atf and motor oil are very different and it wouldn't foul only 1 or 2 cylinders or plugs it would be all of em unless that's manifold vacuum pulling atf from the module
@@mobygodfrey4936 Yeah, doubtful that the vacuum modulator if leaking would cause 3 cylinders to be dead, also the oil residue on the plugs is obviously oil. But the fact that the trans seems to have lost fluid might mean that diaphragm is leaking too.
Ahh.. yes! Back to the type of business that got your channel to that awesomeness that it is today! Good to see you're gettn back to your roots!
The quick quips, “ No rust, legos in the fuel lines. “Old Spice in the carb” are hilarious. The kinda guy you’d want to work on a car with!
