Been doing a rewatch of Coast to Coast and realizing just how much of the vibe of this show is supported by Sharrock's incredible soundtrack. All rise for the Ghost Planet National Anthem.
For the episode entitled "Sharrock" they invited Thurston Moore and made him listen in silence to long impros by Sonny Sharrock. Haunting, unforgettable music. S S was a genius..
My dad just introduced to me to ask the ages yesterday, it's probably the best fully musical album I've ever heard I and hearing this now I can feel his fingerprints all over it, I hope a live to see another guitarist as incredable as sharrock.
I have Sonny Sharrock’s super-experimental free jazz album ‘Monkey-Pockie-Boo’ on vinyl, released on the BYG Actuel label in 1970. I was reading his bio and just found out that he was responsible for the Space Ghost theme…. I never knew that; have always loved that cartoon. What a treat to discover this. 🐾
I think the national anthem is what they played to commemorate Sharrock after he'd died. I was blown away, and it gives me chills as I listen now, 25 years later. Heartfelt gratitude and heartbreak that I had only found out about this genius as he had left us. I liked the show for what it was in my high school days, but the music is the best legacy it has bequeathed me.
it’s the hit single - couldn’t be more obvious of the one to radio 😎 i bet you cartoon network was like “😳who the hell is sonny sharrock?!?!! it doesn’t sound like a late nite talk show band. you want to release this on cd? 😳”

Highlife is good too but Ask the ages is my favorite and Seize the Rainbow Sonny was a great guy.
@@okay5045 even though ATA is a better album, Highlife is so infectiously positive, I love it.
RIP Sonny
Sonny Sharrock, Guitar
Lance Carter, Drums
I swear I hear some keys... Or is that all just Sonny mangling his guitar?
I think I just found my favorite guitarist
