I got my LP8x about a month ago as a secondary table and it has been terrific! Quickly upgraded to the VM95SH which is easy to do with the stock head shell. I think this TT is going to give the Technics SL-1500C some serious competition. Surprised there has not been more review content yet so thanks for this video.
@@unityaudiocanadapersonally, I can’t decide. When this was announced i was SURE I was getting it, but now can’t help second guessing if the 1500C might be better🤷🏻♂️
@@knobbshots one thing to keep in mind is that the AT doesn't have built in phono preamp. To many, it's more of a purest table than something that does.
Yknow radio stations spent billions of hours of experience to find out rubber is the superior platter isolator, the only reason people buy cork, plastic, glass, felt etc. is because its been sold to them as a cool looking fashion accessory "upgrade" - a good rubber mat will give the best isolation from any kind of turntable harmonics or anything generated by the tables platter or motor - TT engineers spent 75 years designing and building tables and 99% decided long ago rubber is best - note that many very expensive tables come with rubber, not because its cheap but because it works
The Tonar mat he used is a very nice mat, I have the same one. They are blend of cork and rubber and are very heavy. Nice look and relatively cheap accessory.
@@badmofauxthanks for watching. I disagree. This is hardly a clone of the Dual. The Dual has a built in phono stage, this does not. The Dual uses a wall wart. This does not. The Dual has a straight tonearm with an angled headshell. This has a j-shaped tonearm with straight headshell. The Dual doesn't have VTA adjust. This does.
@@TuneTimeOttawa Duly noted I kinda expected to get blowback on that one, lol Still tho the overall functionality and style are similar. AT always seem to respond to other things on the market and offer up their own value proposition. I’d rather have the AT, fwiw.
@badmofaux lol - had you used a word other than clone, blowback could have been avoided 😅 " This reminds me of .... " All good dude. I'm sure the Dual is every bit as good for people looking for those features.
Looks nice, but it lacks pitch control and strobe for speed. I have encountered records where their speed is off and I need a pitch control to adjust speed. The good things about it are the auto lift/stop, 3-speeds and the "J" tubular tone arm. No pitch adjustment kills it for me.
If the manufacturer ships the table with a rubber mat, why not at least try it for a while with the rubber matt before starting to replace the matt with something different? Give AT the benefit of the doubt before changing things.
Did you balance the arm and head shell before setting the tracking force? Mine was only off by 0.03 grams when I checked it with a tracking force gauge.
Thanks for this video. First full unboxing I’ve found of this new turntable. It’s a beautiful understated looking piece and I like the new packaging style for AT. Would love to hear your impressions on its performance. Is this replacing the 1240 we’ve seen in your Playgrading videos?
Hi, am not in the market until I can spend 3x or so this price to upgrade. Maybe or not any 1200G_. Semi auto is attractive. Per your comment I looked up AT-LP 7 and was $849. Is that what you meant?

It can make a difference. I find that there is a hum with the lid down. Every extra vibration can either case a dip in the response or a boost. I always take the cover off while playing a record.

Must be. I'm Canadian and yup I put the exact same mat on my Pro-Ject. Did it make difference, well it has less static, doesn't slide around, doesn't collect dust and I like the look. So, ya it made a difference

Different mats will offer different sonic signatures. Sometimes I like to change things for the fun of it.
I see AT is aiming directly at technics with this one. It looks to be a well built and thought out machine

I see it as a Dual CS-618 clone
Altho that doesn’t necessarily conflict with your comment I suppose

Mainly because, in the event that I sell this unit, the new owner will have an unused mat

Yes, the 1240 was sold recently, and this replaced it.
Any platter wobble ?
I’m trying to find a turntable no more than $1000 that doesn’t wobble

I've noticed this trend lately not just in turntables. Manufacturers should stay in their lane and stop price fixing. Broken capitalism.
Manufacturers who sell directly to the public shouldn't penalize dealers by undercutting them.
